Nishant Dev extends perfect pro record with TKO win against Evans

New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI) Indian boxer Nishant Dev extended his flawless run in the professional circuit, securing a Technical Knockout win over American LaQuan Evans in Frisco, USA. The 24-year-old halted the more seasoned Evans in the sixth round of their Super Welterweight bout on Saturday night, recording his third consecutive professional victory. Dev unleashed a flurry of unanswered punches that left Evans defenceless, prompting the referee to stop the contest at 1:58 in the sixth and final round. The fight was part of the undercard for the unification clash between WBC champion Jesse Rodriguez and WBO titleholder Phumelela Cafu. This latest win builds on Dev's earlier two knockout wins against American Alton Wiggins and Mexico's Josue Silva in January and June respectively. A bronze medallist in the light middleweight (71kg) division at the 2023 World Championships and among India's most consistent amateur performers, Dev turned pro earlier this year after a narrow quarterfinal loss to Mexico's Marco Verde at the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers. Now training under former pro Ronald Simms, Dev is signed with renowned promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. PTI APA UNG Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Manny Pacquiao Digs Out Majority Draw Against Mario Barrios On Return

Last Updated: The 46-year-old Pacquiao was held by Barrios as the American retained the title following a majority draw decision. Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao produced a valiant fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. The 46-year-old Pacquiao was held by Barrios as the American retained the title following a majority draw decision. 'I thought I won the fight. I mean, it was a close fight. My opponent was very tough. But it was a wonderful fight," Pacquiao said at the conclusion of the bout. 'I was trying to find a way to finish the fight but my opponent was so tough," he revealed. He threw punches in combination and with defense, so it was hard," the Filipino pugilist added. 'I thought I pulled it out," Barrios said. 'But I still tip my hat to Manny. It was an honor to share the ring with him, somebody with so much experience who has accomplished so much in this sport. We left everything in the ring, nothing but love and respect," the American added. Barrios went on to commend Pacquio's ability despite his advanced age. 'That's crazy — his stamina, he can still crack and he's still strong as hell. His timing, his rhythm, everything. He was still a very awkward fighter to figure out," the champion said. 'I knew I had to step it up to try to and solidify a win," he continued. 'I was really pressing him, trying to make him feel old. But he has some good legs — a lot of the tank and a lot of fight left in him," Barrios added. Pacman, as he is fondly known, stated that he would like to continue his career following his return to the ring, and serve as an example for his countrymen. 'That's the only legacy that I can leave behind — to give inspiration to the Filipino people and to be proud wherever you are." view comments First Published: July 20, 2025, 11:27 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
