Emma Meesseman will join the Liberty in her return to the WNBA, AP source says
The timing of the arrival of the Belgium forward in the U.S. will be determined by how long it takes to get her visa, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made.
ESPN first reported Meesseman's decision.
The two-time All-Star, who helped the Washington Mystics win the 2019 title, has been focused on leading the Belgium national team since her last season in the WNBA, which she spent with the Chicago Sky.
Meesseman helped Belgium win the EuroBasket title last month to qualify for next year's World Cup.
She joins a stacked New York team with Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu that won its first championship last year.

Fans In Disbelief After Shocking Object Delays WNBA Game
Fans In Disbelief After Shocking Object Delays WNBA Game originally appeared on The Spun. Just when you think you've seen it all in sports, something truly absurd happens. With that said, Tuesday night's game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream was delayed because a fan chucked an object onto the court. We're not kidding. During the fourth quarter of the Valkyries-Dream game, a fan launched what appears to be a green sex toy from their seat. It nearly hit Golden State guard Veronica Burton as she was dribbling the ball. Thankfully, no one was harmed during this incident. The score was tied 75-75 when the toy landed on the court. Although the Valkyries and Dream were heading towards a nail-biting finish, WNBA officials and security had to pause the final minute of the game. Several players on the Dream, including Jordin Canada, were visibly shocked that this actually happened. After all, it's not often that an object like this brings a sporting event to a screeching halt. As for WNBA fans, they're trying to figure out how someone even snuck this object into Gateway Center Arena. "How did they even sneak that into the arena," one person asked. "Somebody threw a sex toy on the floor in the middle of a WNBA game. This is DIABOLICAL," another person wrote. "OK I needed the context as to how it got there. Thank you! Now it's even more hilarious," a third person commented. "Carrying this with you to a sporting event in itself is ridiculous," a social media user pointed out. "You can't make this up," another user wrote. "That's a first for the WNBA." Unfortunately for the Valkyries, their 77-75 win over the Dream was overshadowed by this incident. The WNBA will most likely have to release a statement on this fan's behavior. In the meantime, the sports world is unleashing its thoughts on this truly absurd situation. Machado's homer highlights Padres' 7-1 win over Mets, who lose Soto to bruised foot
SAN DIEGO — Manny Machado hit a three-run homer during a five-run seventh inning and the San Diego Padres won 7-1 on Tuesday night against the NL East-leading New York Mets, who watched slugger Juan Soto leave the game after fouling a ball off his left foot in the fourth. The Mets announced that Soto has a bruised foot. He was in considerable pain as he was checked by a trainer. He took a few swings and finished his at-bat, grounding out as second baseman Jake Cronenworth made a diving stop. New York got just four hits in losing its second straight to the Padres following a seven-game winning streak. Machado greeted reliever Chris Devenski by hitting his 20th homer of the season off the facade of the second deck in left field with two outs in the seventh. Elías Díaz hit a two-run double with one out in the seventh, off José Buttó (3-2). Jackson Merrill broke a 1-all tie in the sixth when he hit a chopper off Buttó that bounced over the head of first baseman Pete Alonso and rolled into the right-field corner for an RBI triple. Luis Arraez, aboard on a single, scored easily. Merrill also had a run-scoring single off starter Sean Manaea in the first. New York tied it in the fifth on pinch-hitter Starling Marte's bases-loaded sacrifice fly. Manaea, who pitched for the Padres in 2022, allowed one run and three hits in five innings, with four strikeouts and no walks. Padres rookie Ryan Bergert loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth and made way for Jeremiah Estrada. He struck out Francisco Lindor and then allowed Marte's sac fly before retiring slugger Pete Alonso. Wandy Peralta (5-1) pitched a scoreless inning for the win. Machado's homer put a charge into the sellout crowd of 45,088. Machado joined five other active big leaguers who have at least 10 seasons of 20 homers. Mets RHP Clay Holmes (9-5, 3.40 ERA) and Padres RHP Yu Darvish (0-3, 9.18) are scheduled to start Wednesday's series finale. ___ AP MLB:

Cameron Brink returns but Aces end Sparks' winning streak
Thirteen months after tearing her ACL, Sparks forward Cameron Brink made her season debut, stepping onto the court at the 2:39 mark in the first quarter. Brink looked comfortable despite the long layoff, jumping into the midseason contest intensity with confidence. She was active and competitive throughout, playing 13 minutes and 55 seconds during her return. 'We're thrilled to have her back, and I'm incredibly proud of her,' Sparks coach Lynn Roberts said. 'She's on a minutes restriction. … I told her that she needs to enjoy the moment. … It's a hard injury to come back from mentally and physically, and she's done it with a smile on her face.' But the night marked the end of the WNBA's longest active winning streak, as the Sparks fell 89-74 to the Las Vegas Aces Tuesday night at Arena. The Sparks (11‑15) trailed by double digits for most of the game and couldn't recover against the surging Aces (14‑13), who extended their lead to as much as 21 points. In the third season matchup between the two teams, the Sparks came out a bit hesitant, while the Aces were the aggressors from the tip. 'That was the worst shooting we've had all season,' Roberts said. 'We've got to be able to defend. It's knowing personnel, it's knowing tendency, it's staying locked into the game plan even when they score the first eight points.' The Aces leaned on strong starts from Jackie Young and A'ja Wilson, who combined for 34 points in the first half alone. Wilson finished with 34 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists, while Young recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Dearica Hamby remained a bright spot for the Sparks, contributing 15 points and six rebounds. Hamby was named WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week after leading the Sparks to three wins, including a road victory over the defending champion New York Liberty on Saturday. Kelsey Plum added 22 points, five rebounds, and eight assists in the loss. Brink added five points, four rebounds, one block and one steal in 14 minutes of play. 'I was really proud of her,' Plum said of Brink. 'I told her after the game, 'It's very impressive to come in, make the impact that you did.' ... I think she's gonna continue to just help us a ton.' The Sparks, who had been rolling offensively, were startled by their difficulty scoring. 'We have been so used to making shots and so I think it caught us off guard a little bit,' Roberts said. The Sparks will look to regroup before playing the Storm in Seattle Friday night.
