PM expresses grief over Himachal bus accident, announces aid of ₹2 lakh
"Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon," PM Modi said in a post on X.
"An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM," the post added.
At least seven people died and around 20 others were injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus fell into a gorge near the Maseran area of Sarkaghat sub-division in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district on Thursday morning.
The HRTC bus was travelling from Sarkaghat to Durgapur when it met with the accident.
The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sarkaghat. Those who suffered serious injuries were referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for further treatment.
Soon after the incident, the Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, also expressed grief over the accident and directed the Mandi district administration to provide an ex-gratia grant to the next of kin of the deceased and the best possible treatment to the injured.
Naresh Chauhan, Principal Media Advisor to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, said, "This is a tragic incident. Around 20-25 people have been injured, and seven people have died. Our condolences are with the families."
"The administration is providing all possible assistance. Everyone is engaged in the rescue, the injured are being sent to hospitals, and the entire administration is on the job. The injured have been sent for treatment," he added.
Preliminary information suggests that the accident may have been caused by a road cave-in due to heavy rainfall, which led the bus to veer off the road.
The local administration and emergency response teams reached the spot soon after the incident. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause.

When will DA hike be announced? According to media reports, citing sources, the Narendra Modi government is likely to announce the DA hike by August 15, but the benefits will be retrospectively implemented from the month of July. Over 5o lakh central government employees and 62 lakh pensioners are eagerly awaiting the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission as well as Dearness Allowance (DA) hike under the current 7th Pay Commission, which will cease to be in force on December 31, 2025. How much DA hike can employees expect? The DA hike will depend on the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW), which increased by by 0.5 points to 144 in May 2025. The index has increased for three consecutive months, from 143 in March, 143.5 in April and 144 in May. Considering this trend, its likely that dearness allowance could increase from 3-4 percent from July. The final DA hike will be determined by June 2025 AICPI-IW data, which will be released in August. In case of a 3 percent increase, the DA will be hiked to 58%, from the current 55%, while a 4 percent hike would mean a 59% DA for central government employees. DA is reviewed twice a year, and adjusted according to inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). When will 8th Pay Commission be implemented? Going by the implementation of previous pay commissions, it usually takes about 18 to 24 months for the government to implement the recommendations. Thus, its unlikely that 8th Pay Commission would be implemented before mid-2027. Currently, 7th Pay Commission recommendations are in force, and will remain so till December 2025. A new pay commission is constituted every 10 years which tenders suggestions for revision of salary and pension of central government employees and pensioners in wake of the prevailing economic scenario in the country. The 8th Pay Commission was announced by the Union government in January this year.

The double-deck flyover consists of two levels. The upper deck is 2,175.5 metres long and carries traffic from Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The lower deck is 1,449.3 metres long and helps vehicles move from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan, near BN College. Both decks, each 8.5 metres wide, connect to PMCH and are meant to reduce traffic jams in the city.
