Nine dead, 26 injured in China fireworks factory blast
The blast occurred shortly before 8:30 am Monday at a factory in a village outside Changde, a city in Hunan province, state-run China National Radio (CNR) said.
As of 9:00 am on Tuesday, nine people were dead and 26 injured, CNR said citing a rescue command centre.
Rescue work at the scene was ongoing, CNR reported, noting a 'complicated' situation and the risk of additional explosions hampering response efforts.

Adding to the challenge, the site was in a 'mountainous area with no large water source', it added.
'During more than 20 hours of uninterrupted and continuous rescue, the rescue team used remote-controlled water cannons to extinguish the fire,' the report said.
State news agency Xinhua also said Tuesday that the Ministry of Emergency Management had sent a working team to Hunan to oversee the rescue.
'Efforts must be made to ascertain the cause of the explosion as soon as possible and to hold those responsible accountable,' the ministry said, according to Xinhua.
Industrial accidents are fairly common in China due to vague regulations and lax safety standards.
Last month, an explosion at a chemical plant in the eastern province of Shandong killed at least five people.
In 2015, blasts at warehouses containing flammable chemicals in the port city of Tianjin killed more than 170 people and injured 700 others.

Gudkov, who was handed a top military honour in the Kremlin by Russian President Vladimir Putin in February, was killed on Wednesday "during combat work in one of the border districts of Kursk region," the Defence Ministry said in a statement. Unofficial Russian and Ukrainian military Telegram channels had earlier reported that Gudkov had been killed, along with other servicemen and officers, in a Ukrainian missile attack on a command post in Russia's Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, with a U.S.-made HIMARS missile. Reuters could not independently verify how Gudkov, 42, lost his life. In charge of the navy's coastal and land forces, including marine units, he is one of the most senior Russian military officers to have been killed since Moscow launched its full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022. Before his promotion to the navy's top brass, Gudkov had led a marine brigade of Russia's Pacific Fleet, which had fought in Ukraine and had fought in Kursk too. Two children among five injured in Russia's air attack on Odesa, Ukraine says
Five people were injured, including a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, in a Russian attack on the southern Ukraine port of Odesa overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday. A multi-storey residential building and other civilian infrastructure were damaged, regional governor Oleh Kiper said on the Telegram messaging app. Six apartments were completely destroyed, another 36 were partially damaged, he said. 'The children, who were poisoned by combustion products, were hospitalized,' Kiper said. There was no immediate comment from Russia about the attack. Both sides deny targeting civilians in their strikes during the war that Russia launched against Ukraine more than three years ago. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine posted on its Facebook page photos showing rescuers carrying children in the dark out of a multi-storey apartment building on fire and firefighters fighting the blaze. The Service said that 50 people were evacuated from the building.
