Son Of Sardaar 2 movie review: Deepak Dobriyal runs away with Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur's hare-brained comedy

Son Of Sardaar 2 movie review: I had nearly, and happily, forgotten most of the first Son Of Sardaar. Only when I saw Ajay Devgn in a nicely-tied turban looking lost in a 'yeh kya ho raha hai' manner, and the late Mukul Dev (this is his last film) and Vindu Singh roaming about aimlessly, that I had a flashback of the original.
I wasn't a fan of the first one. Part 2, with these three reprising their roles, accompanied by some new faces, strains to be a little better. But only just.
Two elements have been added to the plot-what's-that proceedings. One is a running India-Pakistan gag, in which a few characters are Pakistani, and they are not all 'soorma-eyed' terrorists (gasp). The other is a wonderful actor who should basically be given all the awards: a nearly-unrecognisable Deepak Dobriyal playing a trans person with brio, nearly runs away with the film. Or would have, if his character was given half a chance to do more than the all-over-the-place script allows him to.
What of Ajay Devgn, the hero who leads this enterprise which wants to be a laugh-a-minute, madcap caper, but keeps slackening? His bhola-Sardar Jassi Randhawa, having left behind his loving bebey (Dolly Ahluwalia) in the 'pind', fetches up in Scotland, there to toggle between affront (wifey played by Neeru Bajwa, has turned out to be a 'bewafa'), and all-round befuddlement.
Can't blame him, because all around him tumble an array of disconnected threads, lead by lovely dancer-by-profession Rabiya ( Mrunal Thakur, showing an unexpected gift for comedy) who just happens to be Pakistani. Rabiya's young daughter ( Roshni Walia) is in love with a guy whose rich sheep-farmer father ( Ravi Kishan) hates Pakistanis.
Son Of Sardaar 2 movie trailer:
Got that? No? Never mind. There's more. Chunky Panday and Kubbra Sait, also part of the dance troupe, are also, yikes, from that enemy country. He is a serial adulterer, she is, well, just, around, to watch over mismatched couple Jassi and Rabiya come closer. Older hero, much younger heroine, cringe max, or Bollywood as usual? Chunks of 1997 war film Border are regurgitated for laughs. A tank is rolled in. An old Sardar (Sharat Saxena) goes through multiple women of different nationalities; racism rears up and it's meant to be funny.
I love broad laughs and hare-brained comedies as much as the next person, but whatever happened to keeping it crisp and connected? Bring back Dobriyal, and give him and Sait something to do. Pair Devgn with an age-appropriate leading lady, and give him a few chuckle-worthy lines. Can't be that hard, can it?
Son Of Sardaar 2 movie cast: Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Deepak Dobriyal, Ravi Kishan, Kubbra Sait, Roshni Walia, Sahil Mehta, Chunky Panday, Vindu Singh, Mukul Dev, Ashwini Kalsekar, Neeru Bajwa, Dolly Ahluwalia, Sharat Saxena, Sanjay Mishra

Son of Sardaar 2 Day 4 India Box Office: Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur starrer swoops to a low on first Monday, adds only Rs 3 crore

Son Of Sardaar 2, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and others, had a poor opening weekend of just under Rs 25 crore net. The movie didn't get the required showcasing, and above that, the world of mouth of the movie was mixed to negative, resulting in no substantial weekend growth. On Monday, the movie dropped by over 60 percent, to add Rs 2.75 - 3 crore net. The total collections of the movie stand at Rs 27.50 crore and the week 1 heads for Rs 35 crore. The movie won't be able to capitalise on the open week 2 and a lifetime number of under Rs 50 crore net won't be surprising. The Day Wise India Net Collections Of Son Of Sardaar 2 Are As Under Day India Net Collections 1 Rs 7.25 crore 2 Rs 8.25 crore 3 Rs 9.25 crore 4 Rs 2.75 crore Total Rs 27.50 crore Son Of Sardaar 2 Gets Directly Impacted By The Blockbuster Run Of Mahavatar Narsimha (Hindi) Son Of Sardaar 2 had a bigger opening than Mahavatar Narsimha on its second Friday. However, the devotional animated movie performed better than the former on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the collections are almost double and that says a lot about the acceptance of both the movies. Son Of Sardaar 2, Being A Sequel To A Hit Movie, Should Have Opened And Performed Better Son Of Sardaar 2, being a sequel to the hit Son Of Sardaar, should have had much better initials. However, Son Of Sardaar 2, despite the 50 percent recurring cast, hardly even looked or felt like the first Son Of Sardaar movie. Makers need to try hard to establish connection between both movies in the promos, else it is of no point. Audience is really smart to read into gimmicks and that is what has happened here too. To note, collections of Son Of Sardaar internationally aren't too pleasing either.

Not Anil Kapoor, this superstar was first choice for Mr. India, rejected it due to..., he is...

Sometimes, iconic roles in cinema almost end up in someone else's hands and the story behind one such Bollywood classic is just as fascinating as the film itself. It's hard to imagine anyone other than Anil Kapoor playing the beloved character of Mr. India, but surprisingly, he wasn't the first choice for the role. The film, which went on to become a cult classic, could have looked very different if the original plan had worked out. Who is this superstar? Before Anil Kapoor was cast as the invisible hero, the makers of Mr. India had approached none other than Amitabh Bachchan for the lead role. At the time, Bachchan was already a megastar with a towering presence in the industry. The script was offered to him, but due to scheduling issue or simply a creative decision, the role slipped from his hands and it landed with Anil Kapoor, changing the course of his career. It was also said that during that time, Big B was trying to involved in political campaigns and that's why he was refusing projects at that time. What was the storyline? Released in 1987 and directed by Shekhar Kapur, Mr. India became one of the most loved science fiction films in Indian cinema. The film tells the story of a kind-hearted man who discovers a gadget that makes him invisible. He uses this power to fight evil and protect orphans, becoming a symbol of hope and justice. What made the film stand out wasn't just the fantasy element but also its emotional depth, memorable characters, and powerful performances. Anil Kapoor's portrayal of Arun, the invisible hero, won hearts across the country. His chemistry with Late Sridevi, who played the bold and spirited journalist Seema, was another highlight. Sridevi's performance, especially in the iconic 'Hawa Hawai' song, remains unforgettable. And of course, no mention of Mr. India is complete without the villain, Mogambo, played brilliantly by Late Amrish Puri. His line 'Mogambo khush hua' became one of the most famous dialogues in Bollywood history. More about Mr India Mr. India was major box office success and is now considered a cult classic in Indian cinema. Made on a modest budget of Rs 3 crore for its time, the film went on to become the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 1987, earning approximately Rs 10 crore at the Indian box office, a huge number in that era, which has IMDb rating of 7.8.

Is Dhanush dating Mrunal Thakur after divorce from Aishwarya Rajinikanth? Fans react to viral video

Actor Dhanush appears to be making headlines once again, this time not for a film release but for his rumoured romantic link with actress Mrunal Thakur. Speculation took off after the Atrangi Re actor was seen attending Mrunal's birthday celebration on August 1. Adding fuel to the rumours, Dhanush was also spotted in Mumbai at the special screening of Son of Sardaar 2, starring Mrunal and Ajay Devgn. The premiere, held on the same day as her birthday, saw the actor flying in from Chennai for the event. A video from the night, now circulating widely on X (formerly Twitter), shows a warm exchange between the two actors. In the clip, Mrunal can be seen leaning in to speak privately with Dhanush during their brief conversation. The video was shared with the caption: 'Dhanush and Mrunal Thakur are dating?' Reactions from fans flooded social media shortly after. One user exclaimed, 'Wait what! Dhanush is dating #MrunalThakur? That's new, lol (sic).' Another chimed in with a simple, "Dhanush dating Mrunal Thakur (sic)." A third asked, 'Dhanush and Mrunal Thakur are dating? (sic).' The dating rumours follow Dhanush's separation from Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of superstar Rajinikanth. The couple, who were married in 2004, announced their split in 2022 after 18 years of marriage. They share two sons and had been seen as one of Tamil cinema's most high-profile pairs. As of now, neither Dhanush nor Mrunal Thakur has addressed the rumours publicly.
