Noel Johansen: Hallmark star shares heartbreaking tribute after wife killed in Vancouver car attack
Noel Johansen was with his family at the Lapu-Lapu event celebrating Filipino culture when an SUV ploughed into the crowd, killing his wife, Jen Darbellay, and 10 others.
At a vigil in Canada, a devastated Johansen, who appeared opposite Blake Lively in Age of Adaline and in several Hallmark and Lifetime movies, told mourners how the tragedy had unfolded.
He said Ms Darbellay was just metres behind him and their children when the SUV struck and it 'felt like a 'giant tidal wave'.
'It hit us before we knew. I was falling in slow motion trying to save my head from smashing in the pavement.'
Johansen and son, Ford, 15, and daughter Darby, 7 were all injured in the attack.
Propped up on crutches, Johansen described his wife as a selfless, creative and empathetic person.
'She never thought of herself; she thought of herself as small in terms of the reach,' The Sun reports.
'And I can tell you she was larger than life for any of you who know her.'
Close friend and business partner, Michael Daingerfield Hall, has set up a
GoFundMe
for the actor and his children.
'This is an incredibly difficult time for Noel, and moving forward with his life is going to feel insurmountable. I know that his work will undoubtedly be affected and I would really like for him and his family to be supported during this time,' he wrote.
He went on to say Ms Darbelly was 'one-of-a-kind'.
'She was an incredibly thoughtful, warm, caring, smart, stylish, artistic woman. A gifted painter, a selfless mother, and a loving wife. She gave the best hugs, was always there to listen without judgement, and had the sweetest voice,' Mr Hall wrote.
Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, has been charged with eight counts of second degree murder and more charges are possible.
Investigators ruled out terrorism and said Lo had a history of mental health issues.

Tributes are flowing for Sonny John Orlando Blundell, 18, after he suffered a major accident last Friday when he hit his head during a celebration at his new apartment in Queensland. 'He hit his head in the lounge room on the ground and had a headache went to bed, woke up went to the toilet vomiting and then passed out that's when his best friend found him unresponsive in the morning,' she said. Mr Blundell was left in a coma in the Queensland Hospital Intensive Care Unit, fighting the brain injury. In a GoFundMe organised by his sister she said that Mr Blundell had been 'fighting this battle' as much as he could, but in an update on Tuesday she confirmed he had died in hospital, surrounded by his family and loved ones. The crowd-funding page has raised over $23,000, with proceeds going towards bringing Mr Blundell home and organising his funeral. 'I ask everyone to still support our family as we need to bring Sonny home as his sisters are waiting for him,' Ms Cromack-Hay wrote on the page. 'We are all here in Queensland trying our hardest to organize this horrible time and prepare ourselves. 'We are all in disbelief and major pain.' Tributes for the teenager flowed on social media, including from his mother Madeline Blundell who wrote: 'I'll bring you home my boy, my love, my soul and my heart, my best friend and my shoulder to laugh with and cry. 'I miss you so much my baby. Ma is here.'

Adult star Kylie Page has been found dead from a reported drug overdose. Page, 28, who starred in the much-acclaimed Netflix show Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On, passed away on June 28. Page, whose real name was Kylie Pylant, died from a suspected drug overdose at her Los Angeles home, according to the New York Post. No foul play is suspected at this stage, according to the report. Page was found during a welfare check after a concerned friend called law enforcement. The drug fentanyl and other paraphernalia were found at her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Page started her adult film career in 2016 with studio Brazzers. 'The Brazzers team is deeply saddened to learn of Kylie Page's passing,' Brazzers wrote. Teen dies following horror housewarming accident on the Gold Coast
Sonny John Orlando Blundell died after hitting in his head in the loungeroom of his new apartment, after doing a backflip. The 18-year-old was found unresponsive on June 24. He suffered several strokes on the night before having brain surgery. Mr Blundell sadly died on Monday, June 30. His sister Izabella Cromack-Hay said on GoFundMe: 'We are all in disbelief and major pain.' Ms Cromack-Hay told The Courier Mail her brother was about to embark on a new chapter with his girlfriend, after recently moving from the Central Coast in New South Wales to Queensland's Southport. 'He was celebrating moving into the Meriton on Southport beach with his best friend Mitchell Bullard when he did a backflip and hit his head,' she said. 'He hit his head in the lounge room on the ground and had a headache went to bed, woke up went to the toilet vomiting and then passed out that's when his best friend found him unresponsive in the morning. 'Moving to Queensland only a month ago, which was his greatest accomplishment, he worked the hardest concreting and making himself known.' Ms Cromack-Hay said Mr Blundell was the kindest, loving and nurturing man you could have met. She told the masthead they had facetimed on the day before he hit his head. Mr Blundell's sister now is aiming to bring him back home to his sisters in New South Wales. 'I ask everyone to still support our family as we need to bring Sonny home as his sisters are waiting for him,' she said on GoFundMe. 'We are all here in Queensland trying our hardest to organise this horrible time and prepare ourselves.'
