Donald Trump to open resort's second golf course on final day in Scotland
Donald Trump will officially open his new golf course in Aberdeenshire on the final day of his visit to Scotland. The US president's fifth day in Scotland on Tuesday follows a meeting and press conference with Sir Keir Starmer on Monday. Mr Trump will cut the ribbon on a second 18-hole course at his resort in Menie, Aberdeenshire before he flies back to the US on Air Force One. The president has played several rounds of golf during his Scottish trip, teeing off at his other resort in Turnberry, Ayrshire, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. As they met at Turnberry for bilateral talks on trade and the situation in Gaza, Mr Trump and Sir Keir took part in what proved to be a lengthy press conference, with the president discussing a number of topics. The Republican Party leader spoke of his 'great love' for Scotland and said he wanted to see the nation 'thrive'. He returned to his long-running objections to wind turbines, branding them 'ugly monsters' and speaking of his admiration for North Sea oil and gas. Discussing the war in Ukraine, Mr Trump said he was 'very disappointed' in Russian President Vladimir Putin and suggested he would bring forward a deadline for Russia to agree to a ceasefire. The US president called Sir Sadiq Khan a 'nasty person', which prompted Sir Keir to come to the defence of his 'friend' the London Mayor. Construction of the new course in Menie began in 2023, with Mr Trump and his son Eric breaking ground on the project. Trump International Scotland claims the two courses will be the 'greatest 36 holes in golf'. The second course is expected to be dedicated to the president's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who was born on the Isle of Lewis. Critics say the Trump developments in Scotland have not delivered as many jobs as promised and work at the Menie site has caused environmental damage. Mr Trump and Sir Keir landed at Menie aboard Marine One, the president's helicopter, which was seen circling the new course before it touched down on Monday evening. The president then hosted a dinner at Menie with members of his family and guests including Scottish First Minister John Swinney. A demonstration took place in Balmedie, near the resort, on Monday. A small number of protesters sat at the roadside in the centre of the village, surrounded by cardboard signs bearing anti-Trump slogans.

4 dead, including off-duty police officer, in Midtown Manhattan shooting: Sources A man wearing body armor and carrying a high-powered rifle shot and killed four people, including an off-duty police officer working security in a Midtown Manhattan office building, sources told ABC News. The incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday in a building located at 345 Park Ave. and 52nd Street, sources said, which contains the headquarters for the investment company Blackstone and the National Football League, sources said. It is unclear if those companies, or any company in the building, were tied to the shooting. After apparently barricading himself on the 33rd floor, the suspect was found dead from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources added. The motive is currently under investigation, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said. Surveillance footage captured the suspect outside the building, according to sources. Some of the employees inside 345 Park Ave. were advised that the threat "has been resolved," but were asked to only leave the building with a police escort, according to a message sent to employees. A witness inside the Midtown office building at the time of the shooting detailed to ABC News what it was like at the scene as colleagues hid in lockdown, unsure of what was unfolding. "We heard multiple shots go off in quick succession from the first floor, and a lot of us just rushed into the room," Jessica Chen said, adding that she was on the second floor of the building watching a presentation with about 150 other people when the shooting started. "Some went out in the back door, out onto the street. Other people, including me, we ran into the conference room and then eventually barricaded the tables across the doors and just stayed still," Chen said. "I texted my parents 'I love them,'" Chen said. "Nothing can describe that feeling." Chen went on to say that she recalled doing active shooter drills in school and said she often wondered what she would do in this kind of scenario. "It's unfortunate that all Americans could think this through," Chen said. New York City Mayor Eric Adams earlier warned residents to avoid the area amid the "active shooter investigation." The New York City Police Department also urged people to avoid the vicinity of East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue due to police activity. South Korea's Celltrion says tapped to buy US pharma factory to offset tariff risk
SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korean pharmaceutical firm Celltrion said on Tuesday that in an attempt to offset the risk of U.S. tariffs it had become the preferred bidder to acquire a U.S. manufacturing factory from an unnamed global pharmaceutical company. Celltrion's Founder and Chief Executive Seo Jung-jin told a briefing it planned to invest 700 billion won ($503.78 million) in the acquisition and operation of the factory, without giving a breakdown of the figure. The company could make an additional investment ranging from 300 billion won to 700 billion won depending on U.S. tariff policy. The U.S. has been conducting a national security investigation into the pharmaceutical sector and President Donald Trump said earlier this month that pharmaceutical tariffs could be as high as 200%. He expected the tariffs to offer "opportunities" by increasing drug prices and reducing competition, thus improving profitability. Celltrion said it would not disclose further details, including the name of the seller and its location, until the signing of the final agreement, which is expected in early October.
