Uttarakhand police recently took to social media with a dramatic surveillance video that looks straight out of an action film, minus the chase. The footage, which has now gone viral, shows two individuals on bikes executing swift chain snatchings before trying to speed away.
But fate (and a well-coordinated police team) had other plans.
The video put out by police shows clear visuals of the suspects' act, thanks to CCTV coverage. Acting on the video evidence, Haridwar Police quickly traced the culprits and arrested two individuals involved in a recent chain-snatching spree across the region.
The incidents took place near Ranipur and Sidcul, Haridwar. According to the police, both men are house painters, one of whom has been to jail before.
The police recovered a couple of pistol, knife and stolen jewellery from the culprits, effectively wrapping up the case with style.
Netizens applaud, memes ensue
As soon as the meme-like post hit the X timeline (formerly Twitter), reactions poured in, ranging from praise for the efficient police work to meme-makers giving the snatchers a hard roast. One user commented, 'bike thieves starring in Fast & Foolish,' while another quipped, 'Haridwar cops deserve an action movie cameo!'
Earlier on May 29, Haridwar police apprehended three repeat offenders near the Canal Patri overbridge.

"The Haridwar police have cracked two theft cases in the Roorkee area, specifically on Eimli Road and Sherkothi Pathanpura, with the arrest of three notorious thieves near the Canal Patri Overbridge. The police have recovered stolen items, cash, and a motorcycle used in the crimes", shared the Uttarakhand police on their Twitter(X).
Recently in a separate operation involving the theft of valuables worth several lakhs from a hotel in Haridwar, police tracked the suspect using footage from over 350 CCTV cameras and ground-level investigation across the Haridwar-Ambala route. The accused was eventually nabbed with a gold chain, three rings, and ₹50,000 in cash.

Over 3k cops trained under advanced training since 2022

Patna: In a significant move to strengthen law enforcement capabilities, Bihar Police successfully trained 3,137 police officers since 2022 through its Advanced Training School (ATS) for the effective implementation of three new criminal laws. Previously, the training programme accommodated approximately 50 officers monthly, but this increased substantially to 350 officers per month, with each batch receiving two weeks of intensive training. The most recent training session, the 171st ATS batch, was conducted from July 8-21, 2025, where 346 police officers, including police inspectors and directly recruited sub-inspectors, received comprehensive training, said a senior official of police headquarters (PHQ) on Thursday. The three new criminal laws, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), came into force from July 1, 2024. These laws replaced Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act, respectively. Additional director general (ADG) of crime investigation department (CID), Sunil Kumar, said under these laws, some new provisions were made and emphasis was placed on the use of new technologies for the investigation and trial of cases. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If You Have Arthritis Avoid This Food Active Life Journal Learn More Undo "In such a scenario, it is extremely necessary to provide special training in modern technologies and research methods to police officers and personnel from time to time during their service period so that they can become more capable, knowledgeable, and technically proficient. This will enable them to play a better role in maintaining peace and order in society and establishing the rule of law," he said. "Located at Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, the ATS provides enhanced training to police officers focused on modern policing techniques and technologies, including digital forensics, CCTV analysis, mobile data tracking, DNA analysis, fingerprinting, photography and videography. This modernised approach aims to improve both crime investigation and evidence collection procedures, making them more scientific and effective," the ADG said. He said the ATS curriculum also includes detailed modules on the importance of physical evidence in investigations, covering aspects such as wound analysis, DNA testing, and collection and analysis of various types of forensic evidence. "Participants are trained in utilising modern technological tools for investigation, including the latest developments in mobile and computer forensics," Kumar said, adding, "Officers receive instruction on FIR procedures, preliminary investigation protocols, and relevant police orders. Special attention is given to the documentation of relevant facts, disputed matters, witness statements, and confession recordings." According to him, the programme also covers comprehensive investigation procedures for both bodily harm and property-related crimes, addressing common mistakes found in daily police records and other procedural errors. He said a notable inclusion in the curriculum is the detailed explanation of Section 107 of the Indian Justice Security Code 2023, which deals with the seizure of crime-acquired properties, along with procedures under the Bihar Crime Control Act. "To ensure continuous skill development, the programme emphasises regular training at district headquarters and police station levels for computer operations and various technological applications," he said. The CID ADG further said, "To further enhance expertise, the department is collaborating with premier institutions like CBI and National Investigation Agency (NIA). Officers are also sent to prestigious training institutes across India for specialised courses." He added that the next training session is scheduled to commence on August 1, 2025, continuing the department's commitment to building a more competent and technologically advanced police force in Bihar.

Sex trafficking ring busted: Kids as young as 2 held captive in Alabama storm bunker for three years; 7 arrested

Alabama storm bunker where the sex trafficking ring was operated (Image: X @Dapper_Det) A sex trafficking ring was busted in Alabama where at least 10 children, some as young as 2, were held captive and sexually tortured for three years in a storm bunker, organised by some of the children's own parents. According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday, seven suspects have been arrested, including three family members and two mothers whose children were among those trapped and abused. They used tools like animal shock collars to carry out the horrifying acts, as reported The New York Post. During the abuse, children would be tied up using the limited furniture in the room, such as a grimy mattress, a chair, and a support pole, and tools like animal shock collars were used to carry out the horrifying acts. The suspects — Rebecca Brewer, 29; Sara Louise Terrell, 41; Ricky Terrell, 44; Dalton Terrell, 21; William Chase McElroy, 21; Andres Velazquez-Trejo, 29; and Timothy St. John, 23 — face charges including sodomy, rape, sexual torture, and human trafficking. Roles beyond direct abuse Velazquez-Trejo would allegedly drug the victims, ages 2 to 15, by putting a white powder in their drinks, then bring in clients who paid up to $1,000 to have sex with the children. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo The house where the abuse occurred was either owned by or located near a home belonging to McElroy's elderly grandparent. Two victims were forced to perform sexual acts on each other and that McElroy taught and performed the acts on them. Court documents state that Sara Louise Terrell placed animal shock collars on the victims, which were used on the children's genitals for punishment and self-serving sexual gratification. These actions targeted both her own children and children of Velazquez-Trejo and Brewer. Velazquez-Trejo and Brewer have three children together, and Brewer has a fourth child by another partner. It is unknown how many of these children were among the victims. The number of Sara Louise Terrell's children involved is also unclear, as is the identity of their fathers. All three Terrells arrested are related, but their exact relationship remains undetermined, according to county sheriff Jody Wade, as reported by The New York Post. Some suspects were allegedly responsible for selling and purchasing children, and Velazquez-Trejo is accused of selling nude pictures of the victims. Wade said, 'there's no telling' how many more victims may exist as the investigation continues in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security. Investigators are also looking into possible connections with the Mexican gang Seranos, which is known to profit from child sex trafficking. All of the rescued children are now in the custody of the Alabama department of human resources and have access to counselors. 'No child deserves this, the power and control of it, the stealing the innocence of a child and the horrible victimisation they went through with these monsters,' said Wade. Five indicted suspects will be arraigned in August.

3 years on, Zira vows to continue fight against distillery pollution

Bathinda: A fight for the permanent closure of a distillery and ethanol project accused of spreading air and water pollution completed three years in Punjab's Ferozepur district on Thursday, an occasion that was marked with a religious ceremony and a resolve to continue the protest. Under the banner of 'Sanjha Zira Morcha', residents of villages around Malbros International Private Limited in Mansoorwal Kalan, near Zira, Ferozepur, vowed not to give up till the unit was shut down. Representatives from various social, labour, and farmer organisations, including farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh's father, Tarsem Singh, gathered in solidarity and assured continued support for the cause. The protest was launched on July 24, 2022. "After detecting the smell of undistilled liquor while digging a borewell at the nearby village of Mahiyawal Kalan on July 17, 2022, residents suspected the distillery was disposing of its waste into groundwater through reverse boring. Samples were collected on at least two occasions, and a team from Central Pollution Control Board and Punjab govt-appointed committees found toxic substances in the water around the distillery," said Roman Brar, a member of the Sanjha Zira Morcha. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo "The chief minister assured action but we are still awaiting written orders to permanently shut down the unit," he added. Parameters concerning toxic substances, including lead, chromium, arsenic, polychlorinated biphenyls, and phenolic compounds (undesirable in excessive amounts), were found in the water samples, with values above permissible limits set by the Indian standards for drinking water. High concentrations of volatile fatty acids were found in soil samples. Acting on the CPCB report, the Punjab Pollution Control Board filed a case at the court of Ferozepur chief judicial magistrate under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. It led to a search operation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at seven locations related to Malbros International Private Limited on July 16, 2024, in relation to money laundering cases pertaining to environmental crime under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. With the case now being heard in the National Green Tribunal, the protest since the last one year has become more symbolic with less physical presence at the site — the industrial unit.
