Son Heung-min breaks down in tears during emotional Tottenham send-off before team-mates launch club legend in the air following final game

Daily Mail14 hours ago
Son Heung-min could not hold back his tears during his final game for Tottenham, which marked the end of his 10-year association with the club.
Thomas Frank 's side wrapped up their Far East tour with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in Seoul - poetically located in Son's homeland of South Korea.
Brennan Johnson scored Spurs' only goal of the game, opening the scoring within seven minutes, before Harvey Barnes pulled one back for Newcastle late in the first half.
The waterworks began when Son was withdrawn in the 65th minute of the game. The 33-year-old shared an embrace with each of his team-mates on the field, with many Newcastle players also consoling him.
65,000 fans in the Seoul World Cup Stadium rose to honour their country's hero with a standing ovation, while Son was given a guard of honour on the pitch.
Taking it all in, the forward waved to the crowd and wiped his eyes as he exited the field, making way for Mohammed Kudus.

The love continued on the bench, with the rest of Son's team-mates appearing to share warm words and congratulations.
At full-time, the winger said one final goodbye to Tottenham fans, and was hoisted into the air by his team-mates to bid him farewell.
Son scored 173 goals from 454 appearances for Tottenham after joining the club for £22million from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
He was included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in 2020-21 and was the joint-winner of the Premier League Golden Boot award in 2021-22.
On three occasions Son was named Tottenham's Player of the Season - in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2021-22. He is regarded as one of the greatest Asian football players ever.
Son won his first trophy when appearing as a second-half substitute during the 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in May. This turned out to be his last competitive appearance for the club.
Mail Sport understands Spurs are discussing a deal for Son with MLS club Los Angeles FC, although the value is thought to be less than what they would receive from Saudi Arabia, where clubs have also expressed an interest.
But Son is thought to want to experience life in the United States.

Speaking at press conference on Saturday, a tearful Son described choosing to leave Spurs as 'one of the hardest decisions' of his career.
'I have decided to leave the club this summer. Respectfully the club is helping me with this decision,' Son said.
'It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision.
'I came to north London as a kid - a very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English. Leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment.'

Ben Cousins announces stunning footy comeback and reveals the star who convinced him to return to the field

Controversial AFL legend Ben Cousins has announced he'll be returning to the field in a high–profile match – with the chance to star alongside a fellow great of the game proving too much to resist. The 47–year–old revealed he'll be playing in the AFL Legends game at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on August 28, joking, 'How hard can it be?' after last playing first grade 15 years ago. 'I think it might be time to dust them [the footy boots] off. One game, hey? I can get myself up for one! It should be a bit of fun… I'm looking forward to it,' Cousins said on Mix94.5's Pete & Kymba with Ben Cousins radio show on Monday. The West Coast Eagles premiership–winner will take to the field with a host of big names, but the one that sticks out for him is former Hawks superstar Cyril Rioli. 'Shane Crawford is the coach; Nick Riewoldt is the captain. I only decided [to play] over the weekend. But, for me, the chance to play alongside Cyril, you know? I'm excited about that,' he said. 'It's a big thing; he was just such a great player. The 47–year–old has kept himself in great shape – and joked 'how hard can it be?' when he was asked about having just over three weeks to prepare for the match 'Everyone's situation is different but because he was 28 when he stopped playing, we all felt he had so much good footy left in him. 'To see him run around and have a kick is so exciting and I'm looking forward to handpassing to him or getting one off him!' Last month, Rioli stunned footy fans by announcing he'll run out for the All Stars side against their Victorian opposition in the match, which will raise funds for the Australian Prostate Cancer Centre. Rioli's bombshell exit from the game came after he accused Hawthorn of having a shocking relationship with its Indigenous players, and later penned an open letter about his experiences. When Cousins was reminded that the Legends game is only just over three weeks away, he replied, 'It's supposed to be like riding a bike, isn't it? 'It's a young man's game but I can get myself up for one, surely. How hard can it be?' Cousins – who is also working for Channel Seven in Perth – has kept himself in great shape since he was released from jail in 2019 after several stints behind bars. He recently looked super–fit as he took the rare step of publicly posting photos with his children after they enjoyed a family holiday in Western Australia. Cousins was also joined on a cruise by a host of other A–list Australian celebrities, including radio presenter Fifi Box, former host of The Project Carrie Bickmore, and former West Coast Eagles teammate Chris Judd and his wife Bec Judd. Cousins' battles with addiction have been well documented since they became public in 2007 after a series of off–field incidents, including arrests and suspensions. He was suspended from the AFL in 2007 and returned in 2009 to play two seasons with Richmond before retiring.

Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes involved in ugly scuffle with Iliman Ndiaye as team-mates rush in to separate them

BRUNO FERNANDES and Iliman Ndiaye came to blows in an ugly clash during Manchester United's 2-2 pre-season draw with Everton on Sunday night. The Red Devils failed to win for the first time on their pre-season tour of the USA, and a lapse in concentration from captain Fernandes could be to blame for a sloppy equaliser. 7 7 7 Fernandes, 30, has been the rare shining light in United's miserable form of recent months but seemed to let his temper get the better of him during Sunday's match. With United leading 2-1, the Portuguese playmaker was chasing Everton 's Ndiaye as the Toffees launched a counter attack when he appeared to kick out at the Senegal international as he skipped away from him. Ndiaye was incensed by the lunging kick, which seemingly had no chance of nicking the ball away, and immediately turned to confront Fernandes. Tempers began to flare from there with the pair trading shoves on the half-way line and attracting the interest of teammates who tried to pull them apart. Mason Mount took the brunt of the anger as he stepped in to calm things down, seemingly been grabbed round the neck by Ndiaye. The moment of madness from Fernandes and Ndiaye proved costly for United, as a lapse in concentration allowed Everton the opportunity to stream forward with five on five. That attack had United's defence all over the place as Amad Diallo tackled Dwight McNeil inside the box only for his challenge to hit the ball against teammate Ayden Heaven and into the goal for a Heaven own goal. There were muted celebrations from the Everton team as attention was quickly drawn to Fernandes and Ndiaye, who were still going at it on the half-way line. 7 The referee ultimately had to show both players a yellow card for their outburst. It tarnished an otherwise impressive outing for the pair who had both found the net earlier in the game. SunSport's chief reporter Martin Lipton's verdict on Man Utd's draw vs Everton... and it's worrying for Red Devils fans Fernandes opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a calmly taken penalty after James Tarkowski brought down Amad in the area. While Ndiaye was the Everton man to level the scores in the 39th minute when he tidily tucked home a delicious cross from Idrissa Gana Gueye at the back post. Fernandes later set up Mason Mount's 69th minute goal for United, making a clever sideways pass into the box for Mount to spectacularly send curling into the far corner of Jordan Pickford 's net. Fernandes was frustrated with his team's inability to hold on to their lead twice after the match, telling NBC Sports that United were "lazy". He said: "It's not where we want it to be. It's every detail, every small detail matters. 7 'Our performance wasn't the best off the ball. We were a little bit lazy and we have to avoid that because the laziness you can pay at any moment. We need to change that. 'The situation is improving but we are not where this club needs to be. 'At this football club you can't do anything wrong on the pitch and off the pitch because it's too big worldwide and you get punished by that. 'The culture here was winning and we need to bring that back. Not only the winning mentality that we need, and I think that's always been there, but obviously if you don't win you don't show it. 'A lot of people have suffered from this, a lot of people who had been working at the club for many many years had to go. 'The fans are paying more for tickets and we appreciate all the effort they put in for us so now it's up to us to pay it back on the pitch.'
