Cygnus raises $18.3m to accelerate resource growth and mining studies

Yahoo19-06-2025
The raising follows outstanding drilling results at the flagship Corner Bay deposit and Golden Eye prospect, which both offer substantial upside
TORONTO and PERTH, Australia, June 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
Highlights
Cygnus has received firm commitments totalling A$18.3m via a share placement to institutional and sophisticated investors
The Placement was priced at A$0.086 per share, being an 8.5% discount to the last sale price of A$0.094
The Placement was extremely well-supported with strong demand from existing and new investors, particularly North American investors, resulting in applications being scaled back
The Placement will be split into two tranches:
Tranche 1 – unconditional tranche to raise approximately A$18.2m; and
Tranche 2 – A$0.1m tranche to a director, subject to shareholder approval
Following a highly successful drilling campaign at the flagship Corner Bay deposit and the identification of high-grade gold/copper at the new Golden Eye prospect, the Company is planning a Resource update next quarter
Funds from the Placement will be used for Resource growth, Resource conversion, exploration of multiple prospects, permitting and advancing studies
Canaccord Genuity and Euroz Hartleys acted as Joint Lead Managers to the Placement.
Cygnus Managing Director David Southam said: 'We have been generating outstanding results at Chibougamau and the proceeds of this raising will enable us to unlock the value much faster.'There is clearly immense scope to grow and upgrade the project's resource on the back of Corner Bay and Golden Eye. Given this potential, we want to move as quickly as possible on the exploration front and advance our study work at the same time.'This comes against a backdrop of increased M&A activity in the copper space which demonstrates that finding high-grade copper/gold projects with infrastructure in mining friendly jurisdictions are rare – we just happen to have one of the best'.
Cygnus Metals Limited (ASX:CY5) is pleased to advise that it has received commitments from institutional and sophisticated investors to raise A$18.3 million (before costs) through the issue of 212,790,697 fully paid ordinary shares in the Company ('Shares') at an issue price of A$0.086 per Share ('Placement'). Pro-forma cash at bank at 30 June 2025 is forecast to be approximately A$23.7m (before Placement costs).
Use of funds
Proceeds of the Placement are planned to be used at the Chibougamau Copper-Gold Project to cover exploration, resource growth, resource conversion, permitting and advancing studies from the preliminary economic assessment ('PEA') previously completed by Doré Copper Mining Corp. in 2022. Other uses include general working capital and costs associated with the Placement.
Note: Cygnus cautions that the PEA is a preliminary technical, conceptual and economic study undertaken by Doré of the initial evaluation and potential development of the Chibougamau Project. It is at scoping study level only, which is based on a lower level of technical assessment that is not sufficient to support the estimation of Ore Reserves and is inherently uncertain. The production targets and forecast financial information disclosed in the PEA are underpinned by Measured Mineral Resources (approximately 1.17%), Indicated Mineral Resources (approximately 32.10%) and Inferred Mineral Resources (approximately 66.73%). However, Cygnus is not able to disclose the outcomes of the PEA as the significant proportion of Inferred Resources included in the Life of Mine means that pursuant to ASX and ASIC guidance there is not considered to be sufficiently reasonable grounds for the production targets and forecast financial information disclosed in the PEA. Accordingly, Cygnus is not disclosing the production targets and forecast financial information reported in the PEA and cautions investors against making investment decisions based on such targets and forecasts.
Placement
Cygnus will undertake the Placement in two tranches:
Tranche 1 of 211,627,907 Shares ('Tranche 1 Shares') will be conducted using the Company's existing capacity under ASX Listing Rules 7.1 (126,025,591) and 7.1A (84,925,316) to raise a total of A$18,200,000 (before costs), with settlement expected to occur on 26 June 2025. The first tranche is not subject to shareholder approval.
Tranche 2 of 1,162,790 Shares ('Tranche 2 Shares') will be issued to Non-Executive Director Raymond Shorrocks or his nominees, subject to shareholder approval, to raise up to an additional A$100,000 (before costs). The second tranche is conditional and will be subject to shareholder approval at a forthcoming General Meeting expected to be held in August 2025.
The issue price represents a discount of 8.5% to the last closing price of A$0.094 on Tuesday, 17 June 2025 and an 11.1% discount to the 15-day VWAP of A$0.097.

Wild scenes at Subway expose bleak Aussie crisis at record levels: 'So difficult'

Australians are being warned about the current job market, with applications for each role hitting record levels. This was laid bare in a recent video where dozens of people were seen lining up for a job interview at a Subway restaurant in Melbourne. Career coach Leah Lambart told Yahoo Finance this wasn't an issue confined to retail, hospitality, and admin jobs, and she's seeing it in white-collar sectors as well. She warned that it's incredibly competitive across the board at the moment. "I think the cost of living is definitely contributing to that, where people are perhaps looking for second jobs and trying to earn more money," she said. RELATED Australia's most in-demand jobs revealed with $125,000 salaries up for grabs Little-known Centrelink perk offers Australian students free flights Aussie motorists face petrol price hike in cost-of-living blow SEEK's June employment report confirmed this reality, which showed that the number of job listings had fallen 0.7 per cent month-on-month and 5.3 per cent year-on-year. That comes as the number of applications per job has risen 2.3 per cent month-on-month. According to the job platform, this is the highest number of applications per job on record, and surpasses the level set during the pandemic when roles were senior economist Blair Chapman echoed Lambart's assessment of how the job market was being squeezed partly due to economic conditions. "This rise [in applications per job] is due to an increased candidate pool, rather than candidates applying for more roles," he said. 'Over the past couple of years more Australians have taken on a second job, or are looking to do so, and more workers have entered or re-entered the workforce. This is likely in response to increased living costs, and as a result, competition is extremely strong for most available roles.' According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there are 963,100 workers with multiple jobs in the country, which represents 6.5 per cent of employed people. Subway queue highlights grim job trend in Australia A German international student discovered how hard it is to get an entry-level role in Australia when she applied for a team worker role at a Subway restaurant. She was shocked when she arrived at the Melbourne restaurant ready for her job interview, only to find at least 25 people waiting in front of her to do the same thing. The student filmed the sea of people standing outside the fast food store, many of whom had their CVs safely clutched in their hands. "I've never seen so many people waiting just for a job interview in my whole life," she said in a TikTok video. "It's so difficult, honestly." Subway declined to comment when approached by Yahoo Finance. Competition is rife and trend fuelled by Gen Z is discouraged People have been warned against quitting their current jobs without a backup organised or thought out due to the current competitive job market. Research from Randstad showed Gen Z was driving this trend, as 49 per cent were jumping ship without another role lined up, compared to the national average of 39 per cent. Some might think they can pick up a casual role in hospitality, retail, customer service, or admin to keep the lights on and food in the fridge while they look for another full-time gig. But Lambart told Yahoo Finance that those short-term roles were hard to come by these days. "Sometimes people say, 'I'll quit my stressful job and I'll just get an admin job,'" she said. "But the admin jobs are probably the hardest to get because they might have 1,000 applicants and everyone thinks they can just do an admin job. "It's not always as easy as they think." Lambart even had a client who worked at Subway with five years of experience struggle to find another role in the hospitality industry. She encouraged people to take the old school approach and hand their CV into a workplace. While sending off your applications online can be a good start, having that face-to-face interaction can help push your name higher on the pile. Where is it most competitive to get a job in Australia? SEEK's data showed the Northern Territory was the only state or territory in the country that had a lift in the number of job ads on offer. The Top End experienced a 3.7 per cent month-on-month rise in job ads. Nationally, the construction sector was the only one to record job ad growth in June at 1.8 per cent, with rising demand in the Construction (3.8 per cent), Engineering (2.0 per cent) and Trades & Services (1.6 per cent) industries. New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania had less than a 1 per cent drop, while Western Australia and South Australia dropped 1.2 and 1.8 per cent, respectively. The ACT had the largest month-on-month drop of 7.8 per cent, and a year-on-year fall of 22.7 per cent. There was a double-digit decline in some of the territory's largest industries, including Government & Defence (11.7 per cent) and Healthcare & Medical (11.3 per cent). Victoria had the second-largest year-on-year decline of 9.6 per in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data

Major analyst resets gold price target after shocking economic data

Major analyst resets gold price target after shocking economic data originally appeared on TheStreet. In times of inflation and economic turbulence, some investors turn to gold as a safe haven. Many experts and veteran analysts agree that gold is a solid long-term investment. It usually acts as a hedge amid geopolitical and fiscal challenges. Invest in Gold American Hartford Gold: #1 Precious Metals Dealer in the Nation Thor Metals Group: Best Overall Gold IRA Priority Gold: Up to $15k in Free Silver + Zero Account Fees on Qualifying Purchase 💵💰Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter 💰💵 However, one of the most successful investors of our time, the legendary Warren Buffett, avoids investing in gold. In fact, he considers it useless. But why? He once said gold 'doesn't do anything but sit there and look at you.' While this is literally true (except the looking part) and Buffett's investment strategies shouldn't be questioned, patient investors who have invested in gold in 2024 or at the beginning of 2025 have been rewarded. Compared to the same time last year, gold prices are now more than 40% higher. A considerable jump happened in April. This followed President Donald Trump's tariff announcement on so-called 'Liberation Day,' showcasing gold's dependence on economic and political changes. To understand how impressive a more than 40% return is, we should compare it to other assets, such as stocks or major indexes. For example, the S&P 500 is up 22.05% over the past 12 months. However, such a significant gain may not happen often enough to make gold the only investment in a person's portfolio. Many experts recommend a diversified portfolio, which means no more than 10% invested in gold. A 40% return over the past 12 months is not bad for a yellow metal that does nothing, but will it continue to go up? Earlier this week, commodities analysts at Citigroup offered their projections. Citi raises gold outlook on harsh U.S. economic instability Citigroup Inc. revised its projections for gold, now expecting it to reach a record high in the short term, influenced by the crumbling U.S. economy, rising inflation, and ever-changing the next three months, gold is expected to trade between $3,300 and $3,600, partly due to U.S. import levies averaging higher than the expected 15% analysts wrote in an Aug. 4 note, as reported by Bloomberg. 'The market has been concerned about a U.S. recession due to high interest rates for the past three years, buying gold to hedge the downside risks,' analysts, including Max Layton, wrote. 'This fear has likely only increased over the past six months given President Trump's largest-in-a-century trade tariff agenda.' In June, the bank projected that gold would trade between $3,100 and $3,500. Now, it is resetting the gold price target, expecting a weaker dollar and inflation challenges to continue in the second half of the year. "U.S. growth and tariff-related inflation concerns are set to remain elevated during 2H'25, which alongside a weaker dollar, are set to drive gold moderately higher, to new all-time highs," the bank said, as reported by Reuters. More Economic Analysis: GOP plan to remove Fed Chair Powell escalates Federal Reserve official gives green light to July rate cut Trump deflects reports on firing Fed Chair Powell 'soon' Former Federal Reserve official sends bold message on 'regime change' After reaching a peak of $3,500 an ounce in April, according to JP Morgan, gold's price has been relatively stable, and Citi's new projections are similar to those of other major analysts. Depressing U.S. outlook unites analysts on gold price projections The majority of Wall Street analysts are bullish on gold prices. Goldman Sachs analysts projected in June that gold would end the year at $3,700 per ounce, based on strong central bank demand, reports Invezz. Reuters' poll of 40 analysts and traders revealed an average forecast of $3,220 per troy ounce, up from the $3,065 they predicted three months ago. A troy ounce is slightly heavier than a standard ounce, equivalent to 31.1 grams, versus 28.35 grams. Moreover, Fidelity International recently said gold could reach $4,000 an ounce by the end of 2025, as the Federal Reserve cuts rates, the dollar declines, and central banks keep adding holdings, reported Bloomberg.J.P. Morgan Research projects prices will average $3,675 an ounce by the final quarter of 2025, rising toward $4,000 per ounce by the second quarter of 2026. U.S. investors who invested in gold might feel slightly conflicted when hearing the news of this commodity's price increase. While they are earning a profit as gold's price rises, the U.S. economy is likely struggling. For example, an investor might seem to have gained 10% on their gold investment, but if the dollar weakened over the same period by 5% due to inflation, the investor's real inflation-adjusted gain would be much less. Or while an investor might be pleased to have profited from a gold investment, they might have lost their job due to labor market challenges caused by a weak economy. Nonetheless, a gain is a gain, especially in times of recession. Key concerns causing higher gold price projections: Inflation; Steep tariffs on exports from many trading partners; Weaker U.S. labor data in the second quarter of 2025; The weakening dollar; Political instability.
