King Mohammed VI Congratulates President Trump on US Independence Day
The King expressed warm congratulations and sincere wishes for health and happiness to President Trump on behalf of himself and the Moroccan people.
The monarch also wished continued progress and prosperity for the American people under Trump's leadership.
The Moroccan King took the opportunity to commend the deep historical bonds that connect Morocco and the US, stressing that these ties rest on solid friendship, constructive cooperation, and mutual respect.
'Our shared commitment to developing these relations has brought new momentum to our strategic partnership, paving the way for closer cooperation in various areas of common interest to serve stability and development at regional and international levels,' the King said.
The King reaffirmed his strong determination to continue working closely with Trump to strengthen the distinguished relations between Morocco and the US.
Today, their relationship spans multiple areas, including trade, security cooperation, and diplomatic coordination on regional issues in North Africa and the Middle East.
In 1777, Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdellah of Morocco acknowledged the independence of the newly formed US, establishing a long-standing relationship between the two countries.
This recognition was followed by the Treaty of Friendship and Peace in 1786, which remains the longest unbroken treaty of friendship in US history.
Earlier this year, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution to celebrate Morocco as 'the first country to officially recognize the United States on December 1, 1777.'
The resolution was issued to mark 250 years of diplomatic relationships between the two countries in 2027.
The Trump administration recognized Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara in 2020, which further strengthened ties.
