‘Big Brother 27' recap: Did the Week 1 Veto save Zae, Amy, or Ashley?

Yahoo2 days ago
Heading into the Week 1 Veto episode of Big Brother 27, Zae Frederich, Amy Bingham, and Ashley Hollis had just been nominated for eviction by Head of Household Vince Panaro. In doing so, Vince chose not to accept Kelley Jorgensen's unique offer of going on the block as a pawn to hide their final two deal. The three nominees had the chance to save themselves in the Power of Veto competition, so let's see how it all played out on Wednesday night.
Read on for our recap of Big Brother Season 27, Episode 3, which aired Wednesday, July 16 on CBS. This season's theme is the "Summer of Mystery" and the house has been transformed into the Hotel Mystère, where secrets lurk behind every corner. The 17 players in the running to win the $750,000 grand prize are:

One week in, there are several alliances already forming inside the house. Vince and Kelly have their super early "final two" deal, Rachel and Amy created the "mom squad" duo, and Jimmy, Morgan, and Mickey cemented their "triple threat" group, complete with a special three-fingered wiggle-shake. And, as usual, there's also a "guys' alliance" forming around the outdoor gym that includes Zae, Keanu, Rylie, and Zach.
NOMINATIONS FALLOUT
Having made a deal with Ashley, as the players in the Head of Household competition, that they wouldn't nominate each other, Vince found himself in hot water with her following his decision to put her on the block. He tried to smooth things over by telling her that he got the feeling she wasn't trusting of him and that "if [he] was going to nominate [her] at any point that [he] wanted to do it upfront." Ashley responded that he broke their agreement, she "generally trusted" him, and that if she wins next week he will be put on the block. Potentially fumbling with her again, Vince stumbled into telling her that if he wins the POV that he'll use it on her even though (according to a Diary Room confession) he wouldn't actually do that.
Amy's response was a more social one, looking for and receiving support from Morgan, Lauren, and her "mom squad" ally Rachel who committed to taking her off the block if she wins the Veto because "Rachel Reilly doesn't not make waves." At the same time, Vince secured himself his own soldier for the Veto comp with his number one Kelley who remained committed to make a big move for him if asked to.
Later, when Vince got time alone with Zae, he was relieved that his third nominee was keeping it cool and would still possibly work with him in the future. For that reason, Vince determined that it would be in his best interest if Ashley stays on the block and is the one evicted this week, all without him having to name a replacement nominee at all and potentially disrupt a connection with a fourth houseguest.
"FRIENDS FOR NOW"
As soon as Zach set eyes on Lauren the first day in the house, he was looking forward to a possible showmance. He refers to her as "the sweetest person" he's "ever seen in [his] life" and it's clocking to him that she's exactly his type, but Lauren is worried that if even Showergate can get someone put on the block then she needs to be careful about getting involved in a showmance. Instead she would like to remain "friends for now."
BB queen of showmances, Rachel, did not share Lauren's aversion to romance in the house so when she learned from Rylie that he has a crush on Katherine, she was happy to encourage him to "start on a friendship basis and see what happens."
RACHEL'S IMPACT
Keanu connected with Rachel in a touching moment of vulnerability where he explained that his motivation for coming on the show is family. As his dad battles spine cancer back home, Keanu wants to make him proud and show him that people are fighting for him. The conversation made Rachel feel closer to him, giving her a reason to want Keanu to stay in the game, but she knew she'd need more than just a few connections in order to overcome her big reputation.
Her approach with Jimmy was to connect with him on a strategic level, not knowing that his original inclination was to try to get her out as soon as possible. They discussed "working toward a goal" as a strategy and for the time being was able to lower her threat level to Jimmy. Following their convo, Jimmy went to Zach to build a larger alliance that would include Rachel, Morgan, Vince, and Rylie as a start. The idea was that getting together people "at midnight" that are "strong in competitions" would help hide their alliance because, according to them, no one would think they're working together. Sticking with the competitive angle, Morgan and Jimmy came up with the alliance name "Heavy Hitters."
After agreeing to be part of the Heavy Hitters, Rachel admitted in the DR that she actually wants to get that group of people out "one by one" and her true allegiance is to Amy.
VETO COMP
Following another long shower from Ashley, the ceremony to pick the players for the Veto comp was able to take place where Vince would pick two other houseguests to play for the Veto alongside him and the nominees. From the chip box, Vince pulled out the chips for Amy and Zach. Because Amy was already set to play, she got to choose Rachel to join the competition. As new factors in Vince's plans for the week, he met with Zach and Rachel to communicate that he would like nominations to remain the same, but they did not commit that to him and, in fact, Zach said that if given the choice he would want to remove Zae. She didn't say so, but we as the audience also knew that Rachel would gladly use the power to take Amy off the block.
For the comp, titled "Campside Caper," the players were disguised as park rangers tasked with identifying three culprits responsible for odors stinking up the camp at "Felony Forest" by examining shoe prints, vehicle tracks and scents at three different crime scenes. Following multiple trips to the outhouse to stick their head in a toilet seat and to the tent to sniff up a dirty mattress, "detail-oriented" Zach got most, if not all, of his guesses wrong, one-time comp beast Rachel struggled make any headway, and newly-minted "heavy hitter" Vince failed to get on the right track. Zae and Ashley had the strongest showing in the comp, and it came down to which of them could lock in the correct answer for their third crime scene first. Luckily, her love of all things potato clinched the answer for Ashley and she was able to buzz in first to claim the season's first Golden Power of Veto.
CONVINCING VINCE
Ashley's win was "worst case scenario" for Vince, forcing his hand to nominate a fourth houseguest to the block. Wanting to avoid creating that friction with someone new, this was Vince's chance to take Kelley up on her own original idea to be nominated as a pawn and a chance to hide that they're super close in the game. While Vince may think nominating someone that isn't his number one ally is his worst case, we as fans of the show know that the actual worst case is nominating your number one ally and watching the house send the pawn home.
Wanting to finagle the game in the direction he wants it to go (getting a "bro" out), Jimmy suggested to Vince that he nominate Keanu, but quickly understood that he'd need the house's support in order to convince Vince that it's in his best interest. He thought he was going to get his way until Wreck-It Rachel heard the plan and went straight to Keanu to give him the heads up.
Keanu went "straight to the source" and asked Vince about the plan, but Vince (truthfully) denied that he ever said it and knew immediately that it was Jimmy's doing. Vince was adamant to Keanu that he never said it and that he's not going on the block, and while Jimmy's antics angered Vince, it also provided him a reason to potentially "teach him a lesson" and make him the replacement nom.
KEANU VS. JIMMY
In an odd turn of events, Jimmy thought it would be a good idea to have a conversation with Keanu to see if they could bond and feel good about each other, possibly opening a door where he'd go back to Vince and tell him not to nominate Keanu after all. Because Keanu already knew Jimmy was the one putting his name out there, he understood that Jimmy was willing to lie to people's faces and so he went to Vince later that night with a pitch to get Jimmy out now before he can do too much damage.
Wanting to solidify something with Ava, Keanu decided to inform her about the intel on Jimmy, referring to him as "the head of the snake." Despite being safe as a Have Not and not needing to get in the middle of anything, Ava saw it as an opportunity to escalate things between Keanu and Jimmy by telling Jimmy what Keanu said. When word got back to Vince that both Jimmy and Keanu were now aware of what the other is saying about them, he saw it a golden opportunity to keep both of them in the game so that there would be their bigger rivalry for the house to deal with rather than looking at Vince as a threat.
To that end, it solidified for Vince that when Ashley used the POV on herself at the Veto Ceremony he took Kelley up on her offer as the replacement nominee. Not to be left out of the equation or adjourned against his will, Jimmy used the ceremony as a platform to call Keanu out for calling him a snake in an epically rehearsed monologue that included instantly iconic lines like "I'm not this chirp chirp chirp bullsh--" and "the only thing fake about me are these goddamn sunglasses" and "buckle up, buddy, coz this snake has a bite." Cooly, Keanu's only response was "How long did it take for you to come up with that?"
Meeting adjourned. Hottest feud of the summer ignited.

Wilmer Valderrama is a dad again

Wilmer Valderrama has become a father for the second time. The 45-year-old actor and his fiancee Amanda Pacheco have announced they welcomed son Wolf Monte, a brother for four-year-old daughter Nakano, into the world earlier this month. The pair shared some black and white photos from hospital, including two pictures of Nakano proudly holding onto her baby brother, in a joint Instagram post to announce the news. It was simply captioned: 'Wolf Monte Valderrama 7/11/2025 [wolf and full moon emojis]." The That 70s Show actor had revealed in April he and Amanda were expecting a baby boy. Speaking on his Dos Amigos podcast, Wilmer told his co-host Freddy Rodriguez: "We're having a boy, and we couldn't be more excited to have the pair." Wilmer added that he and Amanda have already decided on a name but he wanted to let his fiancée share it publicly when she is ready. Wilmer and Amanda previously revealed that Nakano was the first person to know about the new baby. Amanda told People magazine: "She read [the results of the pregnancy test] to Wilmer and I, and she has been shouting it from the mountaintops to every person who comes in her path: 'I'm going to be a big sister!'" Wilmer added that Nakano has also "been so sweet to Amanda, kissing her belly goodbye before going to school and bringing the baby a second teddy bear for bedtime. He added: "We want her to feel such a part of this moment so when the baby gets here she knows this is a moment for her too." Wilmer went on: "Personally, being a girl dad has been the most fulfilling feeling. As an artist, it has also fueled me to make sure she has so many stories in which she sees herself as the hero of her journey! All in all, I was born to be a dad." Amanda shared: "This really has been the most spontaneous adventure of my life and I love that. Every day is quite literally a new experience for not just Nakano but myself too. Nakano has made me love being a mom and I wouldn't want it any other way."

Donald Trump gloats over Late Show with Stephen Colbert axe

Donald Trump "absolutely loves" that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been cancelled. The 61-year-old presenter confirmed that CBS has pulled the plug on his nightly talk show on Thursday (17.07.25), with the final episode set to air in May, and the US president has weighed in on the news, admitting he is delighted that Stephen - who has hosted the programme since 2015 - has been "fired". Trump also couldn't resist taking swipes at two other talk show hosts, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon. He wrote on Truth Social: 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. 'His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! "[Fox News late night host] Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.' Kimmel has offered support to Stephen in the wake of the cancellation. He wrote on Instagram: 'Love you Stephen. F*** you and all your Sheldons CBS.' And The Tonight Show host Fallon was "shocked" by the news. He wrote on Instagram: "I'm just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I'd ride this out with him for years to come. I'm sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. But honestly, he's really been a gentleman and a true friend over the years — going back to The Colbert Report, and I'm sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant." Late Night host Seth Meyers has also expressed his support for Stephen. He said on Instagram: "For as great a comedian and host he is, Stephen Colbert is an even better person. I'm going to miss having him on TV every night but I'm excited he can no longer use the excuse that he's 'too busy to hang out' with me." Stephen announced the axing of The Late Show on Thursday. He said: "Before we start the show, I want to let you know something that I found out just last night. Next year will be our last season, the network will be ending The Late Show in May." Stephen - who replaced David Letterman at the helm in 2015 - added: "I'm not being replaced. This is all just going away. I do want to say that the folks at CBS have been great partners … And I'm grateful to the audience, you, who have joined us every night, in here, out there, and all around the world. "I am extraordinarily, deeply grateful to the 200 people who work here. We get to do this show. We get to do this show for each other every day, all day, and I've had the pleasure and the responsibility of sharing what we do every day with you in front of this camera for the last 10 years."

15 Last-chance Finds From Lululemon's Major Summer Scores Sale You Don't Want to Miss—Starting at Just $29

Lululemon keeps its "We Made Too Much" section well-stocked at all times, but this summer the brand delivered a rare sale event that blew previous deals out of the water—and there are still a few days left to shop. The Summer Scores event comes to a close on Monday, July 21, but in the meantime, the site is still teeming with breathable travel wardrobe must-haves, many of which are at the lowest prices we've ever seen from the brand. As a Lululemon fanatic myself, I delighted in scouring the sale for the best last-chance deals to score before the event comes to a close, and wound up uncovering 15 must-have finds with price cuts up to 41 percent off. From breezy exercise dresses to top-rated leggings and hiking pants, these are the remaining deals you won't want to leave unclaimed during Lululemon's rare sale, starting at just $29. Best Overall Deals Pace Crush High-rise 2.5-inch Shorts lululemon I'm not always the biggest fan of shorts, but the practically unbeatable New York City summer heat has made it nearly impossible to wear anything else. So, I've been on a mission to build a collection of options I'll actually reach for, and the Pace Crush High-rise Shorts are at the top of my list. The elastic waistband and flowy design make these shorts especially comfy and forgiving, and while they're crafted for running, they'll also make a great selection for active travel days. The sweat-wicking fabric is practically essential during the summer months (plus they're quick-drying too), and they even feature a built-in liner for that little extra coverage. Align Waist-length Cami Tank lululemon I'm a sucker for high-quality basics, so when I laid eyes on this sweat-wicking cami with a built-in bra, I knew I needed to add it to my cart. The versatile top is made from a buttery-soft fabric that's breathable and stretchy, effectively checking off all my boxes for a comfy travel outfit. Adjustable straps allow for the perfect fit without slipping off my shoulder, and the waist-length hemline can be worn tucked into my pants or loose. It even comes in nine gorgeous shades that I'll need to stock up on while they're marked down. Softstreme High-rise Straight-leg Cropped Pants lululemon With an elastic waistband and a breathable cropped design, these high-rise pants are sure to become my go-to for long-haul flights in the coming months. The casual, slightly slouchy design is impossibly cool and easy to dress up or down by swapping my shoes, and they're effectively an elevated version of sweatpants thanks to their super-soft, stretchy construction. They're available in three neutral shades (although black currently has the most sizes available), and you can even score them in two different lengths. Align High-rise Skirt lululemon I love the look of mini skirts, but due to their revealing nature, I've always found myself drawn to skorts instead. So, when I spotted the Align High-rise Skirt with built-in shorts in the Summer Scores sale, I was sold. The thick waistband and fitted finish will be both flattering and comfortable, and while it's made with sweat-wicking fabric, it's still stylish enough to be dressed up with a fun top and heels. It's ultra-stretchy and super soft, so I'll feel good wearing it during a travel or sightseeing day, and I can already imagine countless outfits with this skirt as the base. Wunder Train High-rise Crop Leggings lululemon I've been on the lookout for a pair of leggings so lightweight that I can wear them throughout the summer, and the Wunder Train High-rise Crop Leggings seem to fit the bill. I can't get enough of the wide, smooth waistband that's lightly compressive without squeezing too tightly, and the cropped length is great for the summer months. However, the feature that really caught my eye was the brand's Everlux fabric that claims to be quick-drying without revealing sweat marks, so I can banish my greatest insecurity in the gym once and for all. Everywhere Belt Bag lululemon After misplacing my beloved belt bag in a move earlier this year, I've been waiting for the perfect time to invest in its replacement. Well, the waiting ends today because the Everywhere Belt Bag is currently $29, and I already know it's the best way to keep my hands free and my travel documents contained when heading through the airport. The bag is crafted with a water-repellent exterior and a roomy interior complete with a built-in mesh pocket, and its adjustable strap makes it easy to secure a snug fit. Best of all, the back of the bag features another hidden compartment that's practically tailor-made to hold a passport, so I'll have it close to my chest and easily accessible at all times. Align Side-slit Cami Strap Dress lululemon Exercise dresses are my favorite choice for sightseeing and walking tours when I still want to look cute without sacrificing comfort, and the baby pink Align Side-slit Cami Strap Dress will be the next addition to my closet from the Summer Scores sale. It's designed with a built-in sports bra and shorts for extra coverage and comfort no matter what's on the agenda for the day, and it's made from a sweat-wicking, breathable fabric that will be a relief during even the hottest summer days. The tasteful side slits are really just icing on the cake. Blissfeel 2 Women's Running Shoes lululemon I always try to squeeze in at least one run when I'm traveling, which means I have to be prepared with a pair of shoes fit for the job. Since my current running sneakers are on their way out, I'll be snagging the Blissfeel 2 Women's Running Shoes before the Summer Score sale ends, and right now they're still available in a full range of sizes from 5 to 12. They're built with impressive cushioning at the insoles and crafted with women's unique needs in mind, plus they're super lightweight at under a pound for the pair. I'll definitely be reaching for them for exercise since they're designed for running, but I think they'll even become my go-to casual walking shoes, as well. Cotton Pointelle Cropped Cami Tank Top lululemon This dainty cropped camisole is made from an ultra-soft cotton fabric that's endlessly comfy for in-flight wear, and at $34, it's practically a steal right now. The tank strikes the perfect balance between fitted and loose with a body-skimming shape and a hemline that falls just above the belly button. I'm enamored with its delicate lavender shade, but it also comes in six other colors if you're looking for a more muted pick. Best of all, the straps are adjustable, and it's fully stocked in sizes ranging from 3XS to XL. Scuba Mid-rise Oversized Joggers lululemon I prefer my sweatpants to be baggy and loose-fitting, so naturally I'll be snagging a pair of the Scuba Mid-rise Oversized Joggers while they're still on sale for $79. The interior is lined with an unbelievably soft fleece that's gentle against the skin and so luxurious, plus the elastic waistband is adjustable with a handy drawstring cord. The mid-rise cut is flattering and looks great with both cropped and longer shirts, and they're even fitted with deep side pockets with a built-in card sleeve for convenient access while on the go. Love Curved-hem Crewneck T-shirt lululemon My search for the perfect lightweight summer tee continues with the Love Curved-hem Crewneck T-shirt that's on sale for just $34 and boasts a flattering flowy cut and subtle striped design that'll make it a go-to during my next vacation. This basic top will be easy to style in endless ways thanks to its timeless shape, and it's even in stock in a full range of sizes from 0 to 20. It comes in six shades that will match everything in my suitcase (and look great in vacation photos), and the longer hem means it can be worn tucked or loose depending on the outfit. Wunder Train High-rise Shorts lululemon A simple pair of biker shorts is one of my favorite pieces to throw on in attempts to ward off the summer heat, and I'm especially drawn to the bold raspberry shade of the Wunder Train High-rise Shorts. They're made from the same breathable, sweat-wicking fabric as the Wunder leggings, so I trust they'll dry quickly in a pinch, and the wide waistband even hides an adjustable drawcord to keep them firmly in place. Plus, they come in three different inseam lengths to ensure inner-thigh chafing will be a thing of the past. Packable Lightweight Hiking Pants lululemon I'm excited to get some hiking in during my travels to New Hampshire next month, and these lightweight pants are surely going to find a home in my suitcase for the trip. They're designed with a multitude of handy pockets for storage on the trails, and they come with a built-in adjustable belt to keep them in place without having to hike them up throughout the day. Most impressively, these pants pack down into their own pocket so they'll take up minimal space in a backpack or suitcase. Cotton Crochet Mesh Relaxed-fit Cardigan lululemon Versatile, stylish, and packable, this lightweight, cozy cardigan is a dream for evenings on the beach and shorter flights when I still want to look put together. The front is affixed with three buttons and a deep V-neck cut that looks great worn open or closed, and it's made with a relaxed fit that won't feel restrictive or uncomfortable. It's an easy layer to throw into my personal item and slip on during a flight, and the airy knit is essential for the summer. Scuba Oversized Half-zip Hoodie lululemon By now, my closet is practically overflowing with sweatshirts, but with the Scuba Oversized Half-zip Hoodie, I certainly have room for just one more. This cozy layer will be the perfect selection for staying relaxed during long flights, and the zipper will make it easy to slide over my head without messing up my hair. It boasts a roomy front pocket for storing snacks and other in-flight essentials, and perhaps best of all, it has thumb holes. I'm eyeing it in the pink dragonfruit shade since it's available in a full range of sizes, but it also comes in 10 other vibrant colors that will instantly upgrade your travel wardrobe.
