DRDO successfully tests indigenous Pralay missile: Range capability validated
NEW DELHI: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (
DRDO
) on Tuesday carried out two back-to-back successful flight tests of the newly developed tactical missile Pralay, capable of carrying a conventional warhead, from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast, according to a statement from the office of defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday.
In a post onX, RMO said, 'The DRDO has conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of Pralay Missile on 28th and 29th July 2025 from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha.'

The flight tests were conducted as part of user evaluation trials to verify the missile system's maximum and minimum range capabilities, the defence ministry said in an official statement. The missiles followed the planned trajectory and accurately reached the target, meeting all test objectives, DRDO also said in a post on X.
"All subsystems performed as per expectations, which were verified using test data captured by various tracking sensors deployed by the integrated test range, including instruments deployed on ships positioned near the designated impact point," it added in a statement.
"Pralay is an indigenously-developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile employing state-of-the-art guidance and navigation to ensure high precision," the ministry said.

Pralay is a short-range surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500 to 1,000 kg. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), it is designed to carry conventional warheads and has a range of 150 to 500 km.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the armed forces, and industry partners involved in the project, stating that the missile, which incorporates modern technologies, will enhance the armed forces' capabilities.
Secretary, department of defence R&D and chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams, stating that the successful completion of this phase-1 flight tests paves the way for induction of the system into the armed forces in near future, the statement put out by PIB said.
The missile system was developed by the Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with several DRDO laboratories, including the Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, and the research and development establishment (engineers).
Industry partners in the project included Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and various MSMEs.
Earlier on July 25, DRDO successfully conducted flight trials of the unmanned aerial vehicle launched precision guided missile (ULPGM)-V3 at the national open area range (NOAR) in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The ULPGM-V3 is an upgraded version of the earlier ULPGM-V2 missile developed by DRDO.
According to the official statement, the missile features a high-definition, dual-channel seeker capable of engaging various targets and can be launched in both plain and high-altitude areas.
It has day-and-night capability and a two-way data link for post-launch target updates. The missile offers three modular warhead options: an anti-armour warhead to destroy modern armoured vehicles with rolled homogeneous armour (RHA) and explosive reactive armour (ERA); a penetration-cum-blast warhead for anti-bunker use; and a pre-fragmentation warhead with a high lethality zone.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperation after communal tensions flared up in Pune district due to an objectionable social media post shared by an outsider. People came out onto the streets, and in order to control the crowd, a lathi-charge had to be carried out. The situation is now under control. People from both communities are sitting together, talking, and trying to resolve the tension." "Some people deliberately post such statuses to create tension, but strict action will definitely be taken against them. Just because a gathering or event took place, does that give anyone the freedom to post such provocative statuses? No one has the right to make offensive remarks against any religion in this manner," he said. He dismissed the claims that the unrest was linked to a recent public gathering, saying, "So, to say that the tension arose because of a public gathering is completely incorrect. At present, the area is entirely peaceful. In many such cases, doctored videos also come to light. Hence, that aspect must also be investigated." Furthermore, Swapnil Adinath Kadam, a bakery owner whose shop was vandalised and burned, said, "Some of my workers are Muslims and they have come from UP. A social media post surfaced in the morning, it was said that Muslims had posted an objectionable social media post. There is a mosque 150-200 metres from here. They were heading to the mosque. Someone said that this bakery belongs to Muslims. But the bakery belongs to us, and they (workers) are here on rent. They pelted stones at the bakery, took away the tin sheets, and hurled something inflammable inside. Our bakery is completely burned. None of our workers had to do anything with the social media post..." Further investigation into the post and the video clip is underway.

NEW DELHI: India's concerted efforts led to the postponement of the execution of Nimisha Priya, an Indian on death row in Yemen, and New Delhi is in touch with some friendly governments on the 'sensitive and complex case', the external affairs ministry said on Friday. Priya's execution was scheduled for July 16 but was put off following the intervention of Indian officials and non-resident Indians, who have been seeking a reprieve for the Indian nurse. The 38-year-old woman is in a prison in Sana'a, the Yemeni capital city controlled by Houthi rebels. 'This is a sensitive matter and the Government of India has been offering all possible assistance in the case. As a result of our concerted efforts, the local authorities in Yemen have postponed carrying out her sentence,' Jaiswal said. 'We continue to closely follow the matter and render all possible assistance.' Priya, who hails from Kollengode in Palakkad district of Kerala, was convicted by a Yemeni court of murdering her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdo Mahdi and given the death sentence in 2020. Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council dismissed her appeal in November 2023. Priya had injected Mahdi with sedatives in an attempt to retrieve her passport, which he had withheld amid escalating personal and financial disputes. An overdose reportedly led to his death. Efforts to prevent Priya's execution have focused on the Islamic tradition of 'diyat', or paying 'blood money' to the victim's family. However, Mahdi's family has said that it will not agree to such a settlement. The matter has been complicated as India has no diplomatic presence in Yemen, and officials in the Indian mission in Saudi Arabia are handling the case.

Entire country fights a war, says Rajnath, seeks civil-military synergy
Calling for enhanced civil-military synergy, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday (August 1, 2025) that war is not fought by the military alone, the whole nation fights it. Mr. Singh was addressing the 84th Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ) Civilian Services Day at DRDO Bhawan, where he said that in the 'rapidly changing security scenario, there is a need to move ahead with dynamism and innovative spirit while making constant improvements according to the evolving needs', said a statement from the government. The Minister said the 'exceptional back-end support' provided by different departments of the Ministry of Defence to the Armed Forces was key to the success of Operation Sindoor. Emphasising that a robust administrative system was integral for a strong military power, Mr. Singh lauded the AFHQ Civilian Services for playing an important role in strengthening the country's security system during war as well as peace time. 'AFHQ Services acts as an institutional memory for the Ministry of Defence (MoD). It provides consistency, domain expertise and uniformity in the administration, while playing a key role in policy continuity and establishing civil-military synergy. It is a strong pillar of a modern and integrated national defence system,' he said. 'Emerging technologies, new challenges and changing global scenario indicate that training should not be just a formal process, but a continuous cycle of development. Skill upgradation, ethical orientation and behavioural excellence need to be added as integral parts of training,' he said. As part of the event, the Minister launched a redeveloped website of Office of Joint Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer that will provide all relevant information about the office to the employees and general public.
