As travel becomes more immersive and flavour led, check out these five destinations where chocolates are celebrated with bold new twists.
As we celebrate World Chocolate Day on July 7, take your tastebuds on a journey where chocolate isn't just a dessert, it's a delicious expression of culture.
According to a recent research by Booking.com, more than half (57%) of Indian travellers and 45% of Asian travellers are looking to explore local food culture and cuisine while travelling. Flavour-led holidays are becoming a key part of how people experience new destinations. From matcha-infused truffles to filter coffee cacao bars, here's a curated list of five destinations that reimagine chocolate through local ingredients, traditions, and tastes.
With its colonial facades and breezy, bohemian rhythm, Puducherry is emerging as a hidden gem for craft chocolate enthusiasts. Here, rich dark chocolate is handcrafted from organic Tamil Nadu cacao, infused with distinctly local notes: think filter coffee, jaggery, or even a hint of chilli. In the heart of White Town, you'll find tasting rooms and chocolate-making workshops tucked inside sunlit studios. Stroll down tree-lined boulevards, sip artisanal hot chocolate at beachside cafés, or spend a soulful afternoon in nearby Auroville.
Kyoto, Japan
A city where time-honoured rituals blend seamlessly with culinary finesse, Kyoto is a serene delight for chocolate connoisseurs. Discover world-renowned chocolatiers crafting matcha-infused ganache and delicate green tea truffles that echo the city's refined aesthetic. Between tastings, wander through centuries-old temples, explore vibrant markets, or experience a traditional tea ceremony. With ryokans set against bamboo forests and cherry blossom-viewing boutique hotels, Kyoto is an indulgent and culturally immersive destination no matter the season.
Nestled in lush greenery, Ubud brings together Bali's artisanal spirit with its rich cacao heritage. Go beyond the bar with immersive bean-to-bar experiences that spotlight Balinese chocolate blended with coconut, sea salt, or tropical fruits. Wander through emerald rice terraces, unwind in open-air yoga retreats, and return to jungle-view villas offering spa treatments and slow, nourishing breakfasts.
Chiang Mai, Thailand
In Chiang Mai, Thailand's love for bold, unforgettable flavours finds expression in chocolate. Artisanal makers here experiment with northern Thai ingredients like bird's eye chilli, tamarind, lemongrass, and black sesame to create unexpected, thrilling bites. Explore local chocolate ateliers by day, then soak in the energy of night markets or the calm of ancient Lanna temples. Whether you're staying in a chic hotel tucked in the Old City or a luxury hilltop retreat, Chiang Mai's rich cultural heartbeat and inventive culinary scene make it a true feast for the senses.
Da Nang, Vietnam
On Vietnam's central coast, Da Nang is making waves with its evolving chocolate scene. Using local cacao and ingredients like cinnamon, salted cashews, and robusta coffee, chocolatiers here offer rich, earthy creations that reflect the region's culinary roots. Pair a visit to a chocolate café with an afternoon at the Marble Mountains or catch the spectacular Dragon Bridge show after sunset. With everything from beachfront resorts to riverside boutiques, Da Nang is where coastal charm meets cocoa creativity.

Kolkata: Flyers from Kolkata will be the first among 100 cities in over 40 countries on the Etihad Airways network to witness in-flight high-speed WiFi facility across all classes. "The international flying experience will change from Sept 26 when we service the Kolkata-Abu Dhabi sector with a new A321LR aircraft instead of the A320 now,"said Etihad chief revenue and commercial officer, Arik De. The brand new narrow-body Airbus A321LR will offer first-class suites, lie-flat business seats, and an economy cabin with 4K touchscreens and high-speed WiFi. "The WiFi facility will enable flyers to not only work online on their laptops but also view or stream their content from OTT accounts," said De, who will take delivery of the first of 40 A321LR aircraft in two weeks. All flyers can access the free chat feature on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and WeChat. "Tourists are coming back to Kashmir in good numbers": CM Abdullah wants people from West Bengal to visit valley

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 9 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday emphasised that the tourism sector in Kashmir is witnessing a positive surge, following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, with the pilgrims arriving in large numbers for the Amarnath Yatra. CM Abdullah arrived in Kolkata today to take part in a tourism fair. Speaking to the media, he said, 'Tourists are coming back to Kashmir in good numbers. Amarnath Yatra has also begun, and pilgrims have been coming in good numbers on both routes. I talked to some pilgrims, and they are all happy.' 'I have come to Kolkata to take part in the tourism fair because we want tourists from West Bengal to come to Jammu and Kashmir in good numbers,' CM Abdullah said. Meanwhile, an Amarnath Yatra pilgrim from the Philippines, who is a member of the Indian diaspora, praised the administration of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for arrangements made for the pilgrimage, despite initial fears following the Pahalgam terror attack. 'I have come from the Philippines... This is my first time on the yatra. People were scared following the Pahalgam terror attack. But we did not witness anything like that. Here, every arrangement has been made properly. Security has been provided, langar is in place,' she said. She also expressed her faith and wished for the well-being of fellow devotees. 'Bholenath' (name for Lord Shiva) should keep everyone safe and wish devotees a happy return to their homes. It was a very great experience. Everything is safe, come for Yatra, don't get scared,' she appealed to the devotees while speaking with ANI. The seventh batch of pilgrims departed for the Amarnath Yatra from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam on Wednesday. Devotees at the site expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and prayed for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. Visuals showed pilgrims beginning their spiritual journey toward the sacred Amarnath cave shrine. Deepa, a pilgrim from Bhopal, hailed the arrangements made for the Yatra and said that she would pray for everyone's well-being.' The vibes here are very positive...I will pray for the well-being of everyone. May all stay healthy. The arrangements here are very good,' she told ANI. Kamal, another devotee from Delhi, echoed similar feelings. 'I will pray for the peace and well-being of everyone. The arrangements here are very good,' he said. The 38-day annual Amarnath pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine in South Kashmir began on July 3, 2025, and will conclude on August 9, 2025, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. The pilgrimage is taking place simultaneously via both the Pahalgam route (Anantnag district) and the Baltal route (Ganderbal district). Amarnath Yatra is an annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave, where devotees pay homage to an ice stalagmite believed to be the lingam of Lord Shiva. The ice stalagmite forms every year during the summer months and reaches its maximum size in July and August, when thousands of Hindu devotees make an annual pilgrimage to the cave. (ANI)
