Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembers Captain Vikram Batra on his Balidan Diwas, calls him a glorious example

Captain Vikram Batra was a brave officer of the Indian Army who fought in the 1999 Kargil War. On 7 July 1999, Captain Batra was hit by enemy fire and was martyred.
For his bravery, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honour. Every year, 7 July is celebrated as Balidan Diwas to honour his sacrifice.
Meanwhile, the Defence Accounts Department (DAD) will host the Controllers' Conference 2025 from July 7 to 9 at the Dr SK Kothari Auditorium, DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi, which will be inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on July 7.
The conference will be inaugurated in the presence of top military and civilian leadership including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Financial Adviser (Defence Services), S G Dastidar, and Controller General of Defence Accounts Mayank Sharma, marking it as a key platform for shaping the future of India's defence financial architecture said Ministry of Defence.
A flagship forum for policy dialogue, strategic review, and institutional innovation, the Controllers' Conference brings together top leadership from DAD, the civil service, academia, think tanks, and stakeholders across the defence and finance sectors. It serves as a vital platform for evaluating challenges, initiating reform, and advancing the role of financial governance in defence preparedness.
The theme of this year's conference, 'Transforming Financial Advice, Payment, Audit and Accounting through Defence Finance and Economics,' reflects a paradigm shift within the department, repositioning DAD from a finance & accounts body to a future-ready institution focused on Defence Finance and Economics. This transformation, guided by the strategic vision articulated by the Raksha Mantri on October 01, 2024, is internally driven, inclusive, and aligned with emerging national security imperatives.
The transition is anchored in DAD's new mission statement and Motto 'Alert, Agile, Adaptive' which will be formally released during the event. (ANI)

Mumbai Police detain MNS workers protesting over language row
Thane (Maharashtra) [India], July 8 (ANI): Mumbai Police on Tuesday detained several Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers who were protesting against traders for allegedly not speaking Marathi. The protest was part of a larger controversy surrounding the use of language in the city. MNS workers had gathered in the Mira-Bhayandar area to protest against traders who they claimed were not speaking Marathi. The police had earlier denied permission for the rally, citing intelligence inputs and potential law and order issues. Despite this, the MNS workers went ahead with their protest, leading to their detention by the police. Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar Police Commissioner Madhukar Pandey stated that the police had detained some people and appealed to the city's residents to cooperate with the police. The police had suggested an alternative route for the rally, which the MNS workers had refused to accept. 'Based on the High Court's instructions, we stated that you can take permission to hold rally, but change the route. We also had some intelligence inputs, based on which we made this decision. We have detained some people, and I appeal to the city's residents to cooperate with the police,' Pandey told ANI. The controversy began when some traders in Mumbai were allegedly attacked by MNS workers for not speaking Marathi. The MNS had been demanding that traders and shopkeepers in the city speak Marathi, leading to tensions between the two groups. The police have been working to maintain law and order in the city and prevent any further escalation of the situation. The MNS has been advocating for the use of Marathi in public places and has been critical of those who do not speak the language. The party's chief, Raj Thackeray, has been vocal about the need for people to learn and speak Marathi, especially in Maharashtra. MNS workers protested in the Mira Bhayandar area at Mira road in Thane earlier today, protesting the now rolled back order of the Maharashtra government mandating Hindi language to be taught in primary schools. MNS leader Avinash Jhadav was also detained by the police for protesting at Mira Road. Notably, Maharashtra Minister Pratap Baburao Sarnaik broke ranks with his government and came to Mira Bhayandar to support the MNS protest against traders over the language row. But instead of a warm welcome, MNS workers called him a traitor and forced the minister to leave the spot. The minister had no choice but to leave as the crowd grew agitated. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the administration asked them to take an alternate route, to which they did not agree. Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis said, 'It would be wrong to say that we did not permit the protest at Mira Road. I have spoken to the commissioner, who told me that the Police did not refuse permission for the protest.' (ANI)

ED arrests mastermind for fraudulent mobilisation of investments from public on false promises of high returns
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Kolkata Zonal Office, has arrested Saiyad Jiyajur Rahaman, Director of M/s LFS Broking Pvt. Ltd., on July 5, under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, the agency said. Earlier, the accused was produced before the Chief Judge, City Sessions Court, Kolkata, on the strength of a production warrant issued by the Court. The accused has been remanded to ED custody till July 14, the ED said. According to the ED, Saiyad Jiyajur Rahaman is the mastermind behind fraudulent schemes carried out through M/s LFS Broking Pvt. Ltd., which promised assured returns ranging from 2-3 per cent on investments, which lured a number of investors into entrusting their hard-earned money to the accused persons. In this matter, searches were earlier conducted on May 22, 2025, at several premises linked to M/s LFS Broking Pvt Ltd and its Directors/associates, resulting in the freezing of various bank accounts, identifying a number of movable and immovable properties, and the arrest of two accused persons, namely Md. Anarul Islam and Dilip Kumar Maity under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, the agency said. As per the ED, the case pertains to the fraudulent mobilisation of public investments by the accused persons through various companies and firms, based on false promises of high returns at exorbitant rates. The arrested persons operated the illegal business under the guise of M/s LFS Broking Pvt Ltd, a company registered with SEBI for share broking and other investment activities. However, they knowingly floated several other firms bearing names similar to M/s LFS Broking Pvt Ltd. Investors were misled into believing that they were investing in the SEBI-registered company, whereas funds were actually diverted to similarly named firms such as LFS Broking and PMS Services, and others, the ED said. So far, the total amount mobilised by the accused persons has been identified to be around Rs. 1500 Crore. Further investigation is under progress, the agency said. (ANI)

Delhi LG approves continuation, renewal of 410 Part Time Vocational Teachers
New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): In a move that would further strengthen the education system in Delhi Government Schools by ensuring uninterrupted teaching facilities, Delhi LG, VK Saxena has approved the continuation and renewal of Part Time Vocational Teachers (PTVTs) engaged in Government and Government-aided schools in Delhi for the Academic Session 2025-26. According to the release, the Education Department of the Delhi Government had sought the extension of 410 PTVTs - comprising 402 qualified and 8 non-qualified teachers - in Delhi Government schools from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026, which was approved by the LG. In addition, Saxena has approved the renewal of contracts for 02 contractual Part Time Vocational Teachers appointed under the Hospitality and Tourism vocational stream, for the period from 01.03.2025 to 28.02.2026. The proposal also covers the continuation of 09 Part Time Vocational Teachers currently deployed in 04 Government-aided Senior Secondary Schools in Delhi for the academic year 2025-26. Part Time Vocational Teachers have been serving in Delhi schools since the late 1970s and early 2000s on a contingent or contractual basis. They were originally engaged to teach vocational subjects and they continue to do so under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), which was introduced by the CBSE to replace the earlier vocational stream. These teachers are currently engaged in delivering skill-based education to students in Classes 9 to 12, in alignment with the NSQF. The Department has highlighted that the number of PTVTs has been steadily decreasing due to superannuation and the absence of fresh recruitment, making it crucial to retain the existing teachers for continuity in skill education. Of the 505 PTVTs presently working in Delhi Government schools, 410 are contingent-paid, whose continuation has now been approved, while the remaining 95 are working against temporary posts that are renewed annually with the concurrence of the Finance Department.
