The daredevil community is mourning a star.
Felix Baumgartner, who became the first person to break the sound barrier with only his body, died in Italy after his paraglider crashed in the coastal Italian city of Porto Sant'Elpidio on July 17, Mayor Massimiliano Ciarpella confirmed. He was 56.
'Our community is deeply affected by the tragic passing of Felix Baumgartner, a world-renowned figure, a symbol of courage and passion for extreme flight,' the official wrote in Italian on Facebook. 'Porto Sant'Elpidio stands with his family and loved ones in this moment of grief.'
Baumgartner, who held multiple world records for his daring stunts, had crashed into the side of a swimming pool in the central Italian city, according to first responders at the scene, per NBC News.
The Australian skydiver, nicknamed 'Fearless Felix,' made history in 2012 when he became the first person to break the sound barrier in free fall without a vehicle. He wore a pressurized suit and jumped from a capsule in space more than 24 miles above Earth.

His fastest speed was over 843 mph, which is 1.25 times the speed of sound, as he came down. The historic stunt also earned him records for the highest jump altitude and the highest free-fall speed without a parachute.
For Baumgartner, who was part of Red Bull's Stratos project, skydiving was a calling.
'I was always fascinated with skydiving since I was a little kid,' he told Euronews in 2022. 'I always spent time on top of trees to see the world from above. I went to the local skydiving club, they taught me how to skydive and this is where everything started. This is where my journey started without knowing where it was going to take me.'
The daredevil—who also previously broke records in BASE jumping, including the lowest BASE jump from the Christ the Redeemer in Brazil and the highest from the 88th floor of the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia—gained a newfound perspective on life through his stunts.
"I know the whole world is watching now,' he said to Red Bull in 2012. 'I wish the world could see what I can see: sometimes you have to go up really high to understand how small you are."

New Skims face wrap promises 'jaw support' — can Kim Kardashian's latest shapewear really change your face?

The face wrap, which has already sold out online, comes in two colors and is sold for $48. Kim Kardashian's shapewear company Skims isn't just lifting butts and boobs — it's also supporting your jaw. At least that's the idea behind the company's new product, the Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap. The wrap, which looks like a postsurgical compression garment, is described on the Skims website as their 'first-ever face innovation.' It comes in two of the brand's famous neutral colors: clay and cocoa. 'This must-have face wrap boasts our signature sculpting fabric and features collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support,' the site reads. 'Velcro closures at the top and nape of the neck allow for easy, everyday wear.' Currently the brand is retailing the product for $48, and both colors are already sold out online. Skims has not specifically claimed that this product can change the shape of your face. However, over on the brand's Instagram, influencer Jasmine Alisha tried on the garment for her 'morning shed' — aka her morning routine in which she removes nighttime products like lip masks and hair bonnets in order to reveal glowy skin and hair. In the video, Alisha says, 'Shout-out to Skims for giving me this snatched jawline.' She also called out how the product is 'infused with collagen,' though it's unclear exactly what this means or what Skims claims it will do. Skims states on its website that the garment is infused with 'collagen yarn' but also that it is made from 81% polyamide and 19% elastane, synthetic fibers commonly used in stretchy clothing. Yahoo reached out to Skims via email to request more information about the mask, including what collagen yarn is and whether Skims had conducted any trials on the wrap to test its effectiveness. A spokesperson replied that the company is "unable to provide comment at this time." While this may be the brand's first face wrap, Skims is not the only company selling this type of garment. Skin Gym sells a similar product, which the company claims can 'sculpt and support your jawline while you sleep' as well as 'reduce the appearance of puffiness, ease facial tension, and enhance the appearance of more defined features for a well-rested, lifted look.' Meanwhile, one silicone face wrap sold on Amazon claims to be a 'double chin reducer' and 'jawline shaper,' while a second, similar product sold on Amazon says it can be used for 'jawline tightening.' What do experts think about the face wrap? So far Skims has not offered details on the science behind the wrap, but experts who spoke to Yahoo voiced skepticism about its ability to change one's face shape the way Alisha's Instagram post suggested. New York City dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner told Yahoo that in theory compression could change one's face shape — but the garment would have to be worn over time. During the natural aging process, he explained, collagen production slows down, and the skin becomes weaker and 'starts to sag.' 'The effects of gravity do add to this, and, theoretically, using a compression garment like this from a very early age may give some modest benefit, because the skin is not experiencing those effects of gravity as much,' said Zeichner. But Dr. Stafford Broumand of 740 Park Plastic Surgery said that people hoping for major transformations of their face from this product may be disappointed. Broumand said that the face wrap is essentially a compression garment, much like the ones people use after having procedures like a facelift in order to reduce swelling and aid in the healing process. He said that people may notice a change in their facial appearance after removing the face wrap, the same way you might notice a reduction in swelling after you remove a compression from any part of your body. However, he stressed that this would be a temporary change. In order to get a true tightening effect, Broumand said, surgical options — such as a deep plane facelift, which Kardashian's mom, Kris Jenner, is rumored to have gotten herself — are what will offer the most dramatic results. Ultimately, Broumand said, clinical trials are the only way to know for sure if the product works as Skims claims it does. Zeichner said that while this product may not be the solution to a sagging face, it could help people who recently had a facial tightening procedure done in order to potentially maximize their results, noting 'there is a theoretical role for compression after those types of procedures, perhaps to provide enhanced outcomes.' However, he said, 'results will be modest.' 'This type of product coming to the market and getting such attention shows the focus that even younger people are having on aging the best that they can,' Zeichner said. 'And if you are concerned, then touch base with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to see what's right for you. The earlier we address signs of aging the better.' Not all customers are convinced either The new Skims face wrap has also prompted skepticism from some potential customers. In the comments section of the initial Instagram post by Skims, people accused the company of playing into their customers' insecurities in order to make a profit, with one user calling it 'proof that women's insecurities are a billion-dollar industry and celebrities continue to abuse this fact to profit.' Meanwhile, another joked, 'Just dropped — new invention to make women feel insecure for no reason.' Others called out the brand for raising 'beauty standards' and charged that Skims has been 'making women feel bad about themselves since 2018.' And one asked, 'If this works so well, why didn't Kris Jenner use this instead of spending thousands of dollars on a facelift?' referring to recent statements by Jenner's reps confirming that she received a facial refresh from Dr. Steven Levine last year. Some people online, however, noted that the face wrap might have some noncosmetic purpose: 'I have a connective tissue disorder that caused TMJ and my jaw recesses at night, which causes mouth breathing + allergies so I am actually stoked for this!' one person wrote in the Instagram comments. A second added, 'This isn't new. People who suffer from burns on neck and face have worn these before in the U.K.' Solve the daily Crossword

Katy Perry's Complete Dating History

Pop star Katy Perry has had a prolific career as a musical artist, with a discography so iconic it even took her to outer space. On earth, she's also made quite a few conquests. Perry has had some very high-profile romances throughout the 2000s, with love affairs that inspired her own music as well as the music of others (ahem, John Mayer). And recently, she was seen out with Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau, expanding her romantic reach into politics. Read all about this artist and muse below. Here's Perry's complete dating history so far. Actor Johnny Lewis was known for his roles on The O.C. and Sons of Anarchy and for dating Perry for about 18 months in 2006. It was before Perry's career really took off, leaving their relationship fairly unreported. Lewis died in Los Angeles in 2012. Perry dated the lead singer of the popular band Gym Class Heroes, Travie McCoy, in 2008 into 2009. She broke up with him after less than a year, apparently via email. In 2012, McCoy shared that his drug use likely contributed to the break up, but he added that the email 'destroyed him.' 'It started off with "I love you so much I hate to do this,"' he said. 'Someone that you are ready to spend the rest of your life with sends you a fucking email just shitting on your whole parade. It destroyed me.' After McCoy, Perry had another fling with musical artist Josh Groban. They broke up and remained friends. He was supposedly surprised when she later wrote a song about him titled 'The One That Got Away.' On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, he was asked about being her muse and replied, 'We did [date]. We were both very private, and so we realized we were better as friends. And we've been very, very good friends to this day. She's the best. But, I was not expecting that. That was a double take and a spit out my coffee when I saw that.' Perry met comedian Russell Brand at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. They got married in 2010 and then divorced a little over a year later. Perry told Vogue in 2013, 'At first when I met him, he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, "I can't handle the equalness." He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.' In 2012, E! reported that Perry was seen holding hands at Coachella with the Florence and the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd, but there's no account of why their relationship ended. Perry and musician John Mayer dated off-and-on from around 2012 to about 2015. However, it was reported as early as 2010 that Mayer had been trying to hook up with Perry, and they even met for what sounds like a date just before she ended up with Brand. They broke up for the first time in 2013, and a source told E! at the time, 'John still very much loves [Katy] and has feelings for her. It was just going to be too much with what was on his plate.' In March 2013, she told ELLE U.K., 'I realized I could lose the person I loved, and I had to deal with some things, issues I think a lot of women have. You can be strong in one aspect of your life but submissive in another. In relationships, it was hard for me to speak up and set boundaries. I think a lot of that was to do with the fear of loss.' She added, 'I think a lot of that was to do with the fear of loss. The men I have gone for are challenging, yes, but they're also wildly intelligent and poetic. I'm not interested in taming anyone. I'm pretty wild myself.' That June, Perry told Vogue, 'I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him. All I can say about that relationship is that he's got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds.' Mayer got the message, because they were dating again by the end of that month. Over the next few years, there were lots of reports about them breaking up and getting back together, with sightings as late as July 2015. But they ultimately split for good that year. In a 2017 interview with the New York Times, Mayer admitted his song 'Still Feel Like Your Man' is about Perry, saying, 'Who else would I be thinking about? And by the way, it's a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it's like, give me this, people.' In April 2014, during one of her off periods with Mayer, Perry was linked to Diplo. They were seen at Coachella together that month, but it was a brief fling. In 2017, she ranked him as her third best celebrity lover during a James Corden interview (after John Mayer and Orlando Bloom), to which he tweeted, 'I don't even remember having sex.' Perry and Bloom were first noted as being flirty friends at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards, though they had met years earlier. They dated for about a year before splitting up in February 2017, releasing a statement to People saying, 'Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time.' They remained friends, which Perry passionately tweeted about that same year. Friendship blossomed again into something more, and they reconciled in 2018. A source told People in March that year, 'They are dating but not necessarily putting a label on it. They are not girlfriend and boyfriend. They do seem very happy together though.' In 2019, on Valentine's Day, they got engaged. And in August 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove. In 2024, Perry opened up in a Call Her Daddy interview about why it took them so long to settle into a relationship, saying, 'We weren't really in it from day one. He was because he had just done a huge time of celibacy, and he had set intentions. I was fresh out of a relationship, and I was like, I can't do this anymore. I need to swim in a different pond, but I had to do a lot real work.' She added, 'He wasn't playing that cat-mouse game anymore. I was like, "This is boring. I'm moving on." I was so used to this push-pull. I was playing games.' The couple made their last public appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March 2025, and rumors began circulating that they had split again. In June 2025, a source told Us Weekly, 'Katy and Orlando have split, but are amicable. It's not contentious at the moment. Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.' The insider added that the breakup was 'a long time coming,' and that they had been living apart since Perry went on tour, because things 'have been tense for months.' The former couple released a statement on July 3 to People, reading: 'Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is—and always will be—raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.' In July 2025, TMZ reported that Perry had been seen on what looked like a dinner date with politician Justin Trudeau. The former Canadian prime minister was with the pop star at Le Violon, in Montreal, on July 28. They were also seen together in Mount Royal Park before dinner, then got drinks after the meal at Taverne Atlantic. Perry's tour is currently taking her through Canada. Trudeau separated from his former wife, Sophie, in 2023. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Donald Trump's new Scotland golf course is ready. How can you play it?

The way President Donald Trump told it, the new Scotland golf course the Trump Organization named in his honor and dedicated to his mother wouldn't have happened without Sean Connery. He even broke out his best Bond impression to praise the late Scottish actor at the grand opening of Trump International Golf Links on Tuesday, July 29 near Aberdeen, Scotland. "The land, they said it couldn't get zoned. It was an impossibility," Trump said at the ribbon cutting ceremony before playing the course's ceremonial opening round with his son, Eric Trump, 2002 PGA champion Rich Beem and Irish golfer Paul McGinley. "Sean Connery said, 'Let the bloody bloke build his golf course.' Once he said that, everything came into line." Connery did offer support in 2008 for what Eric Trump described Tuesday as his father's "passion project," which Trump acknowledged got off to a rocky start with its neighbors. There were environmental concerns due to the resort's intrusion on the region's sand dunes and Trump's alleged tactics trying to acquire land. But Connery cited the potential benefits to the economy when Trump's initial $1.5 billion plan, which also included hundreds of houses that have not been built yet, received approval from the Scottish government. "During tough economic times, this is a major vote of confidence in Scotland's tourist industry and our ability to rise to the challenge," Connery said, according to the Daily Express. "I look forward to seeing a new gem in the north-east that is good for Aberdeenshire and good for Scotland." The resulting 36-hole golf resort, featuring a highly-acclaimed "Old Course" built in 2012 and the new course Trump formally debuted before returning to the United States after a five-day visit to Scotland, will officially open to the public on August 13. Before that, the property is set to host PGA Legends Tour and DP World Tour events the next two weeks. It will join Trump Turnberry, which Trump bought in 2014, as Scottish golf destinations. Tee times and hotel rooms are available starting next month for what the Trump Organization has dubbed "the greatest 36 holes in golf." But it won't necessarily come cheap. Here's a breakdown of how to stay and play at Trump's newest golf course, Trump International Golf Links. How to stay at Trump's new golf course Those wanting to play golf at Trump's golf property outside Aberdeen, Scotland, can stay on property. Trump MacLeod House & Lodge Hotel is billed as a five-star Scottish baronial mansion nestled within the 1,400-acre grounds of Trump International Golf Links, which is located on the former Menie Estate of Balmedie on the Scottish North-East coast. There are 19 "lavish" guest rooms (with personal butler service available), Italian marble staircases, intimate dining and bar facilities, a separate whisky bar, a full spa, outdoor hot tub, traditional log fires and secret stairways. It's available for exclusive use, corporate events and weddings and "minutes" from the property's golf courses. A house or lodge room for the week beginning on Sunday, August 18 ‒ the earliest day rooms are available as of July 29 ‒ costs 683 Euros (about $787) or more, depending on availability and number of nights. "We had an unlimited budget and we exceeded it," Eric Trump said. "This was his (father's) Mona Lisa." There are also golf packages that include hotel stays, with options built around playing one round or two rounds on the two courses at Trump International Golf Links. The two-night version featuring two rounds of golf on the property's old and new course, which includes a two-night stay at the hotel, a welcome dinner and a dram of whisky and breakfast, costs 2,500 Euros per person (about $2,884) or 4000 Euros (about $4,615) for two people sharing a room. The package is available from August 25 until October 31, 2025, according to the property website. The one-night version, which includes one round of golf on the property's old course, a one-night stay at the hotel and a three-course dinner at The Dunes Restaurant & Bar at the golf clubhouse, costs 1,070 Euros (about $1,234) for a single occupancy room and 782.50 Euros (about $903) per person for a double occupancy room. A one-night package with just golf and hotel accommodations costs 985 Euros ($1,136) for a single occupancy room and 697.50 Euros (about $804) per person for a double occupancy room. In November and December, the costs drop to 460 Euros (about $530) per person per night. The property website also advertises a "Winter Getaway for two" package at 495 Euros (about $571). It includes a one-night stay, three-course dinner at "Trump's Restaurant & Cellar," breakfast in the morning and beauty and wellness treatments at the hotel spa. How to play at Trump International Golf Links Golfers looking to play Trump International Golf Links can get tee times on the old course, the new course or "play the greatest 36 holes in golf." Tee times are available on the new course and old course beginning on Aug. 13, with greens fees costing 495 Euros (about $571) per person. There is a combined "Greatest 36" rate as well until October 31. Tee times will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis during the first few months of play, according to the property website. There are also various levels of club membership available for an undisclosed cost. "It's going to be something special and the big question is which is going to be better if there is such a thing," Donald Trump said about the two 18-hole courses, "because we've had such great ratings on the first, I don't know if you can match them on the second, but the second should be every bit as good. The land is of equal quality right on the North Sea and it's going to be good." Golfweek ranked the property's old course No. 31 in the international courses in its 2024 rankings.
