Angels prospect George Klassen is improving after apparently getting hit in head by line drive
Klassen was injured Sunday while pitching for the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas. The liner appeared to hit him in the head, leaving him flat on his back on the mound during the fourth inning of a Southern League game against Montgomery.
Klassen needed help to get off the field from his manager and athletic trainer. He was still undergoing further testing Monday, but the team said Klassen was awake and alert, and his condition was improving.
Manager Ron Washington said he didn't have an update Monday before the Angels opened their series with the San Diego Padres.
Klassen is one of the most promising players in the Angels' perpetually low-rated farm system. The Halos acquired the 23-year-old last summer when they traded closer Carlos Estévez to Philadelphia, which drafted Klassen in the sixth round in 2023.
Klassen is 1-3 with a 4.97 ERA for Rocket City, striking out 36 over 29 innings.

Cease, Cronenworth, Laureano power Padres to a 7-3 win over the Cardinals
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Dylan Cease allowed one hit over five innings, Jake Cronenworth and Ramon Laureano homered and the San Diego Padres beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3 on Sunday. Cease (4-10) struck out nine with a walk as the Padres (62-50) won for the seventh time in eight games and moved three games behind the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers (65-47). Jason Adams, Jeremiah Estrada and David Morgan followed Cease and put the Cardinals down in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Robert Suarez worked one inning and earned his 32nd save. Cronenworth opened the scoring with a two-run homer, his ninth, in the fourth. Laureano added a solo shot, his 16th, in the eighth inning. Jackson Merrill had a three-run triple in the seventh to extend the Padres' lead to 6-0. Cardinals starter Andre Pallante (6-8) allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings. Gordon Graceffo gave up four runs on four hits in two innings before giving way to Roddery Munoz. The Cardinals got on the board at the top of the ninth on bases-loaded singles by Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker. Byron lost gambles on fuel twice this season, at Michigan and Indianapolis, but held on with the help of a caution-filled final stage to win by 1.192 seconds over pole-sitter Chase Briscoe. 'We needed one to go our way,' said Byron, who led 141 laps. Brad Keselowski, who came into the race needing a win to get into the playoffs, was third. Keselowski, who hasn't won since the May race at Darlington last season, won the first two stages for his first stage sweep since 2019. Ryan Blaney, who won the inaugural Cup race at the 0.875-mile oval last season, finished fourth, Ryan Preece was fifth. Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman, Carson Hocevar, Joey Logano and Austin Dillon rounded out the top 10. There were 12 caution flags. The first stage was caution-free, and the first yellow flag for any on-track incident didn't come out until Shane Van Gisbergen's spin on Lap 169. From that point, the race became a cascade of caution flags as the cars began to stack up and drivers scrambled for position. Briscoe's bumps Briscoe was involved in two late incidents. Briscoe made contact with Erik Jones coming out of Turn 4 on lap 243, causing Jones to spin. Nine laps later, Briscoe bumped Tyler Reddick, who then hit Christopher Bell, causing Reddick and Bell to spin. Wallace overcomes early problem Wallace admitted Saturday that after winning last week at Indianapolis to secure a playoff spot, he would be able to relax over the last four races of the regular season.
