Many people supported the local leaders' posts. CPM district secretary Raju Abraham said that an investigation would be conducted into the posts.
Former CWC district chairman N Rajeev, who was suspended last week from the position, made a sarcastic note on Thursday night. Rajeev is also a member of CPM Eraviperoor area committee. "As a child, I used to stay at home on the day of my class exams, lying about having a stomachache.
That's how I escaped from exams. And here, it's from the questions," he wrote. He was allegedly mocking George after she sought treatment at a hospital.
Elanthur local committee member P J Johnson, without naming anyone, said in his Facebook post that the person wasn't eligible even to be an MLA, leave alone being a minister. Johnson is former SFI district president.
Allegations raised to help private sector: Govindan
Meanwhile, CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Friday said opposition and media were unnecessarily holding ministers responsible for the unfortunate death of a woman, who was trapped under the debris when a portion of an unoccupied building collapsed at Kottayam MCH.
Govindan said there was no deliberate delay in carrying out the rescue operation, adding that health minister Veena George needn't step down for it.
Opposition parties and media are trying to show the public health system in a bad light, Govindan said. Baseless allegations were raised to help the private healthcare sector, he said.

‘Objectionable' WhatsApp Status On Akhilesh Yadav Gets Six UP Cops Suspended

Last Updated: The cops were suspended within 24 hours since the receipt of complaint by the Samajwadi Party, the officials said. A WhatsApp status having 'objectionable" comments on Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav has resulted in the suspension of six police personnel in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad. The action was taken against all six constables, including the one who originally posted it and others who propagated the remarks further. The original post was made by Constable Pradeep Thakur, who is posted in Shikohabad. The Samajwadi Party filed an official complaint over the matter after the comments went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp, after which the police swung into action and suspended the constables within 24 hours. As the post went viral, Samajwadi Party district unit chief, Shivraj Singh Yadav, met with the Firozabad police chief. The official ordered an investigation by the respective area in charge, Hindustan Times reported. Within 24 hours, by Friday afternoon, area police officer Chanchal Tyagi confirmed that the allegations were true. He identified five other constables—head constable Kuldeep and constables Rahul, Amit, Arun, and Saurabh—for helping the post go viral. Akhilesh Yadav is a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and a sitting MP from Kannauj. He is also the leader of his party in the Lok Sabha.

Nipah outbreak: 1 dead, 345 on contact list in Kerala

Thiruvananthapurm, July 5 (UNI) In view of one death due to Nipah and another person testing positive for the virus, the Kerala Health Department has prepared a Nipah contact list comprising 345 individuals in the state. The state's health department has activated emergency containment protocols across three districts: Malappuram, Palakkad, and Kozhikode. Health Minister Veena George stated yesterday that 211 people are from Malappuram, 91 from Palakkad and 43 from Kozhikode and all of them are healthcare workers. The current Nipah suspicion pertains to individuals in the Palakkad and Malappuram districts. The state's health department has sprang into action, tracing contacts and implementing emergency protocols to contain the spread of the virus. Following the detection of the virus in tests conducted at the medical colleges in Malappuram and Kozhikode, samples have been sent to the Pune Virology Institute for confirmation. One patient undergoing treatment in Palakkad has tested positive. The patient's route map has been published. Even before confirmation, preventive measures were intensified in accordance with protocol. Alert advisories have been issued in Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad districts in connection with the two confirmed Nipah cases. Experts have advised against using firecrackers or other methods to scare away bats. Kerala has experienced multiple Nipah outbreaks in the past - in 2018, 2021, 2023, and 2024- all marked by high fatality rates. Hospitals and healthcare institutions have been directed to strengthen contact tracing and ensure no one is left unidentified in the contact list. The availability of protective equipment in hospitals must be ensured. Efforts to trace the source of the infection should also be intensified, and route maps should be released without delay. Symptoms in the two confirmed Nipah cases first appeared on the 25th and 26th of last month. Information will be collected from the affected areas going back three weeks. Authorities will also investigate whether any deaths occurred during that period due to encephalitis or pneumonia. State and district control rooms have been set up. In each of the three affected districts, 26 committees have been formed. The contact list is being prepared with assistance from the police. District collectors in two regions have declared containment zones, where mask-wearing is now mandatory. UNI DS AAB RKM

Kerala CM leaves for Mayo Clinic in US for treatment

Thiruvananthapuram, July 5 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with his wife, flew to the United States today for specialized medical treatment. The Chief Minister, whose trip is scheduled for ten days, departed from Thiruvananthapuram Airport in the early hours via Dubai. He is visiting the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for follow-up consultation and further treatment, having previously sought care at the same facility. During his foreign visits, the Chief Minister typically does not delegate responsibilities. He usually attends cabinet meetings online and oversees urgent official matters remotely. His wife, T. Kamala, and personal staff member V.M. Suneesh accompanied him on the trip. Although the Chief Minister had initially planned to travel to the US before the Nilambur by-election, the visit was postponed due to election-related commitments. The journey was finalized as the medical evaluations and treatment could no longer be delayed. The Chief Minister's visit comes at a time when the state's healthcare system is facing widespread criticism and public outrage. Amidst this backdrop, controversy continues over a recent incident in which a woman died following the collapse of a building at Kottayam Medical College. Critics have pointed out that the Chief Minister did not meet the family of the deceased, Bindu. In contrast, the Oommen Chandy Foundation (named after the late Congress Chief Minister) has extended Rs 5 lakh to help the family complete the construction of their house. The Chief Minister's departure follows a viral Facebook post by Dr. Harris Chiraykkal, Head of the Urology Department at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, which highlighted systemic issues in the hospital and triggered public concern over the state's healthcare infrastructure. Meanwhile, the tragic death at Kottayam Medical College has intensified the political storm, prompting the Opposition to organize statewide protests demanding the resignation of Health Minister Veena George. It is amidst this politically and socially charged atmosphere that the Chief Minister has left for the United States. He also underwent treatment at the Mayo Clinic in 2018, 2022 and 2023.
