Watford Colosseum taken on by new owners following refurbishment
The refurbishment was part of the Town Hall Quarter regeneration project by the local authority, working alongside Morgan Sindall Construction.As part of the refurbishment, a new stage was installed, the bar area was revamped, accessibility improvements were made, and the original main entrance was reopened.AEG Presents UK will fit lighting, add furnishings and install equipment under the next phase of works.Mr Homer added: "The council's investment has created a brilliant venue that blends heritage with modern capability, and we're excited to begin the fit-out process."
Some of the acts to take the stage from August included Jake Bugg, The Stranglers, and David Essex.Lisa Mart, general manager at the Colosseum, said: "The collaboration with Watford Council and the local business community has been an incredibly positive experience."We look forward to the launch when we open our doors officially on 29 August and are so proud to open such an amazing venue."
The 10-year Town Hall Quarter programme included eight interlinked projects, which the council said were designed to bring investment, culture, and opportunity to the town.Peter Taylor, Mayor of Watford, said: "This is a major step forward in bringing first-class, live entertainment to Watford."This has been a key priority for us, and I'm delighted to see the venue ready for its next chapter."

Instead she and her husband Danny made a last minute decision to fly to Dubai instead after Zoe, 28, took to social media to admit 'something wasn't quite right'. And the couple have now returned from their trip with Zoe seen out and about in Cheshire in an oversized navy jumper and blue gym shorts. She completed the look with a pair of white sports trainers and balanced a pair of shades on her head. Earlier this week Zoe received backlash after she took to social media to reveal she had chosen to leave Bali early. The fitness influencer had planned the trip to Indonesia with her husband Danny to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. And despite staying in a huge sea view room at the Radisson Blu, a five-star hotel, they decided to leave early and jet to Dubai instead. Zoe explained that Bali looks better on social media than in real life, as influencers make it look luxurious, despite it being a developing country. In a new YouTube video, Zoe told the camera: 'Since landing in Bali, something for us wasn't quite right. 'We came here with high expectations because we had seen on social media that everyone was having such a lovely time. Lovely places to eat and beaches, and lovely gyms and coffee shops. 'But I don't think the reality of Bali is shown much at all, and I do think it is down to a lot of influencers posting the more luxury side of things.' She added: 'Before joining the army, I spent five months travelling South East Asia. I did Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, I did a lot and spent time in these countries. But there is something very different about Bali. 'We got told Uluwatu where we are now is one of the best places to go, so if this is one of the better places, I'm not sure where the other places are like. 'I wasn't going to sit down and say anything, but people want to know.' Danny then joined the video and said: 'You either go on holiday to travel and experience culture or you want to go away and relax.' Zoe continued: 'Yeah, and we could have got a flight tomorrow as today is our anniversary, but time is precious and we just want to get out, and why delay it. 'We missed the mark, maybe we didn't do our own research, maybe it is our own fault. I did a lot of research though. 'I think it is just personal preference, and our preference was that this isn't for us, and we are making the executive decision to go enjoy our anniversary somewhere we know that we love and can relax and can drink the water.' Fun on the fairways as tens of thousands descend on Portrush for The Open
It was fun on the fairways in Portrush as tens of thousands flocked to the north coast to see the world's top golfers tee off on the first day of The Open. The crowds included actor James Nesbitt, US ambassador to the UK Warren Stephens, First Minister Michelle O'Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little Pengelly. While anticipation was high to see returning hero Rory McIlroy in action, during the wait there was an opportunity to recreate his famous television clip chipping golf balls into a washing machine. McIlroy was a primary school child in 1999 when he appeared on UTV's Kelly show as a promising youngster showing off his skills with the trick. Ms Little-Pengelly, herself a keen golfer, was among those who tried the 'chipping it like Rory' challenge. Despite the watching crowd, the deputy First Minister showed no sign of pressure as she took a moment to carefully line up the perfect shot, which resulted in the ball deftly landing in the drum. Breaking into a huge smile she punched the air amid cheers. The crowds, ten deep in places, endured heavy rain showers in the early afternoon before the sun finally broke through not long before McIlroy himself appeared at the first fairway. You could have heard a pin drop as people stretched every sinew and used all possible vantage points to get a glimpse of the Holywood man taking his first shot of the tournament. Almost 280,000 fans snapped up tickets for the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, which will be the second best attended in history. Among them on Thursday were Lilian Kennedy and Norman Kennedy from Coleraine, and her niece Tracey Bradley from Dungannon, with Karl Holmes, originally from south Wales. They said they were delighted to see some of the biggest names in golf, including McIlroy, as well as Shane Lowry, who won The Open last time it was held in Portrush in 2019. It was Mrs Kennedy's birthday, and she was enjoying the experience thanks to Ms Bradley, who gave her the ticket for The Open as a birthday gift. 'I couldn't have asked for anything better than that, a great birthday present,' she said, giving her niece a hug. Mr Holmes said they had been there all week and it had been 'fantastic'. 'It's great, the facilities are fantastic, we haven't seen much today because of the weather, but I saw Rory McIlroy right in front of me yesterday which was fantastic,' he said. 'Good old brolly,' he added, in reference to the rain. Mr Kennedy laughed and said it had been hard to see much with all the umbrellas earlier, before the sun re-emerged, but praised the good atmosphere. Gene Fleming, Bart Lewis, Brian Halloran and William Bell, friends who had been fraternity brothers at Eastern Kentucky University in the US, said they were enjoying the true European golf experience with the rain. Mr Lewis said it was his second Open, after attending the 150th at St Andrews in Scotland. 'It was awesome so we came back, and so far so good,' he said. 'Actually when we were in Scotland the weather wasn't bad at all, so I wanted to experience a British Open that had the actual weather, that's part of it. 'The weather does seem to have a bigger play in the tournament result (in the UK compared to tournaments in the US), but I do enjoy the hospitality in Europe all over, I think it's a great place, we've had a fantastic time.' Mr Fleming said they had loved the experience of playing golf in the rain on the island of Ireland themselves, before the Open tournament. 'What's so amazing is that if we had this weather in the United States, the complaining and carrying on at the golf course would be unbearable, but there is no sympathy here, the weather is the weather, we're learning about it, we played two rounds in it, enjoyed it thoroughly,' he said. 'We got great weather one day and we got the whole Irish experience the other day. 'We loved it, I'll never forget it, I'm so glad I came here. My mother's maiden name of O'Brien, so I've got some Irish in me.'

KATIE Price has revealed she's on the brink of homelessness – just days before she's due to move out of her current home. Former glamour model Katie, 46, admitted she's struggling to find a guarantor for a new rented property, despite having a glowing reference from her current landlord. Speaking on The Katie Price Show podcast with her sister Sophie, the mum-of-five explained she's only got 'a couple of months' left in her current rental after the owner decided to sell. She said: 'I was supposed to have this place for about two years. The guy who owns it – such a nice guy – he let me have the place even though I didn't have a guarantor. "And I've been on time with all the payments, as you should, bills and everything. But now he wants to sell it.' Katie added that trying to find a new home has proved more difficult than expected – even with her good track record as a tenant. She said: 'It p****s me off. Some houses I look at, I can't get a guarantor. Some people don't earn enough to be one for me. "One house I do want, the landlord wants six months' rent up front and a guarantor – even though I've got the best reference ever from this guy. 'It's so annoying. Because that guy has read the papers and that, I get judged on it.' Sophie chipped in, pointing out how competitive the rental market has become, with more landlords demanding guarantors regardless of the tenant's situation. The TV personality was evicted from her dilapidated Mucky Mansion last year amid ongoing financial issues. Katie's former home became synonymous with its down-and-out nature and its constant need for repair and upgrade. She previously spoke of her joy at moving into a £5k-a-month new build and starting a fresh chapter. The rundown pad, which has nine bedrooms and four bathrooms, was bought for £1.15million - £200,000 less than Katie paid for it. She previously insisted it was worth at least £2million. Katie said last year: "I absolutely have hated my mansion. "I tell you why, nine years of hell I've had there. Fly-tipping, it's haunted… And I am living with it. "Whoever buys that house, good luck! I hate it." Katie - once worth £45million - moved into the mansion ten years ago. Katie Price's missing millions At the peak of her career Katie had an estimated fortune of £45m, thanks to her lucrative modelling career, book deals, and TV appearances. The cash-strapped mum-of-five was first declared bankrupt in 2019 over unpaid debts of £3.2 million. In a podcast interview earlier this year, she blamed her exes who include Peter Andre, Alex Reid and Kieran Hayler and lawyers for her money woes. She insisted that funding her exes' lavish lifestyles with cars, watches, luxury holidays and homes left her finances in tatters. She added: "I went through a breakdown, this is how mine started - lawyers and exes, that is my bankruptcy thing. "And obviously a bit of HMRC. "When I had my breakdown, if anyone has been depressed… I don't know if you've ever had depression. "It starts with depression and you just want to sleep all day and not talk to anyone, the phone would ring and you wouldn't answer it.' In March, Katie was declared bankrupt for a second time over an unpaid tax bill of £761,994.05. The demand for payment was made by HMRC last October. Katie was due to give evidence about her finances at the High Court but failed to turn up - holidaying in Cyprus with her new man JJ Slater instead. Her Mucky Mansion was a bomb site for years after it was burgled, flooded and swamped by an overflowing septic tank.
