US tennis star Jessica Pegula reveals disturbing fan abuse and death threats after shock French Open exit
World No. 3 Pegula was eliminated at Roland-Garros in the fourth round, as wild card Lois Boisson beat her 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
And last year's US Open finalist received some horrific comments afterwards, as she posted a thread on her Instagram story detailing what she'd been subjected to.
In her Instagram comments - under a post of Pegula mourning the loss of her dog, no less - one fan said that 'Karma' would come for her, and hoped that her first-born child would be a stillbirth.
Under the same post, another person said that 'Tucker [her dog] is better off without this loser,' while another comment on the website said: 'Somewhere in the world, there is a tree that's working really hard to produce the Oxygen you waste.'
Another commenter posted a picture of a playing card with the words 'You Die' on it.
Another accused her of losing on purpose and hoped she delivered a still-born child
Pegula, the son of billionaire and Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula, was also called 'useless' by another fan.
'Just quit playing tennis and enjoy your father's money! You are literally the most useless top 10 player ever,' they said.
After sharing screenshots of the various instances of abuse, Pegula called the bettors 'insane and delusional.'
'... And I don't allow dms and try to remember when to shut my comments off during tournament weeks but they always find a way to my timeline. This stuff has never really bothered me much but does any other sport deal with this to our level? I'd love to know because it seems to be predominately tennis?? It's so disturbing.
'Every person on tour deals with it,' she continued. 'It's so bad. Those are just really small snippets. I get told my family should get cancer and die from people on here on a regular basis. Absolutely crazy.'

She continued: 'I've seen stories of comments/threats/stalking making headlines in other sports... well news flash I can guarantee it's 100 times worse. These comments are nonstop for us. Win or lose - it's whatever they bet on.'
After revealing that she had also been notified by the NHL of threats against her (her father owns the Buffalo Sabres as well), she said that such abuse wasn't okay - even if it has 'never really gotten to me.'
'When fans get on us as athletes to be tougher and stronger etc etc. just realize you prob don't have people sending you death threats every day and hoping your family dies and you give birth to a still born child,' she said.
Pegula added that it wasn't realistic for tennis players to stay off of social media as they need to be on there to post sponsorships.

Alex de Minaur comes back from set down to advance at Wimbledon
Alex de Minaur has been left relieved to blast back from being a set down and avoid joining the legion of seeds who have already been scattered at this shock-laden Wimbledon. In perfect sunny conditions on Thursday morning, Australia's big hope brushed off a woeful first set against French qualifier Arthur Cazaux before regrouping, asserting his superiority and eventually prevailing 4-6 6-2 6-4 6-0 to ease into the third round again. Fifteen of the 32 men's seeds had already fallen by the wayside in the first two rounds and, momentarily, there were concerns for de Minaur after a woeful first set in which he made 14 unforced errors and couldn't find a first serve for love nor money. 'It just shows you, this sport, it's not easy out there. Anything can happen on any given day,' said de Minaur after being asked about the proliferation of big names going out early. 'It definitely wasn't an easy match and there some tough moments out there but I'm super excited to be back in the third round.' De Minaur had never been knocked out of a grand slam by anyone as lowly-ranked as No 115 Cazaux but the alarm bells were ringing once the fluid server from Montpellier took advantage on a packed No 2 Court. But urged on at courtside by his Davis Cup captain and last Australian men's Wimbledon winner, Lleyton Hewitt, de Minaur stirred, nearly doubled his first-serve percentage of 33% to 63% and swept to level the set scores. Cazaux, who had knocked out de Minaur's old colleague from his Sydney junior days, Adam Walton, in five sets in the opening round, had banged down one serve timed at 147mph (236.5km) in that win. The big delivery got him out of trouble constantly as the Australian put the pressure on and earned six break points during the second set, finally earning the key break at 4-4 when the Frenchman threw in a double fault. Inside Wimbledon star Sonay Kartal's life from relationship with bodybuilder to meanings behind tattoos
SONAY KARTAL is enjoying an ink-redible Wimbledon and is rising up the rankings. The 23-year-old was down at No.259 ahead of last year's tournament at the All England Club after a health battle left her hospitalised. 6 6 6 6 But a fantastic year in which she has won her first ever WTA Tour title and made at least the third round of Wimbledon will see Kartal climb into the world's top 50. Off the court, she has been in a relationship with bodybuilder Luke Ogbourn. He bought her flowers after she made the first round at SW19 last year. Though it is unclear whether they are still an item as Ogbourn has not been spotted at Wimbledon this year and traces of their relationship have disappeared from social media. Kartal was born in London but grew up in Brighton alongside her sister and brother. She is of Turkish descent and her dad used to own a "kebab takeaway" and "sit down restaurant" serving food from his country. Kartal boasts an incredible tattoo collection and she has lifted the lid on their meanings. She told SunSport: "I got a bee. I kind of left it to my sister. "Not a strawberry, but I'd get something that is not so obvious that means Wimbledon but something that if you know Wimbledon, you'd know what it is. "Growing up, I was the type of person I'm never going to get a tattoo. I never really liked them. "And then I got one when I was on holiday. Now I've got like 14." Kartal grew up training alongside Emma Raducanu.
