Bullock carts come to aid of pilgrims in Kaleshwaram Pushkaralu

BHUPALPALLY : Thousands of pilgrims attending the ongoing Saraswati Pushkaralu at Kaleshwaram on Tuesday complained that the district administration failed to provide adequate transportation facilities.
Pilgrims arriving at the TGSRTC bus station and designated parking areas faced problems in reaching the Pushkar Ghat, exacerbated by unseasonal rains that have damaged internal roads in Kaleshwaram.
Over 80,000 pilgrims took a holy dip on the sixth day of the Saraswati Pushkaralu at the Triveni Sangamam in Kaleshwaram.
Despite the state government's claims of comprehensive arrangements and availability of funds, there is a noticeable lack of shuttle services or battery-operated vehicles to transport the pilgrims from key locations to the ghat. As a result, pilgrims were compelled to walk 1-2 km to reach the riverbank for their holy dip.
Local residents stepped in to fill the gap, offering transportation via bullock carts and auto-rickshaws, charging Rs 50 per person to reach the Pushkar Ghat. The pilgrims urged the authorities to take immediate action to improve transport connectivity and ensure basic amenities for a smoother and more comfortable experience during the remaining days of the Pushkaralu.
P Ramesh, a devotee from Hanamkonda, said, 'After arriving in Kaleshwaram, pilgrims are forced to walk 1-2 km to reach the Pushkar Ghat for the holy dip. In the summer heat, this is particularly challenging. The authorities should introduce mini-transport vehicles or battery-operated vehicles to assist pilgrims.'
The Bhupalpally district administration claims that officials from the panchayat raj engineering officials were working round-the-clock to repair damaged internal roads leading to the Pushkar Ghats. They asserted that all necessary amenities have been provided to ensure the smooth conduct of the Pushkaralu.

Kolkata Airport To Get A New Terminal, Here's How Domestic Flyers Will Benefit?

Last Updated: Domestic flyers to enjoy more space as the existing terminal becomes fully domestic; new terminal aims to boost global reach by 2030. Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is preparing for a major shift. A new terminal building, part of a Rs 4,200 crore Phase II expansion, is set to handle both domestic and international flights. Once it opens, the current terminal will be dedicated solely to domestic flights. As per Telegraph India, Airport Director Pravat Ranjan Beuria shared, 'Domestic passenger numbers are far higher than international, so this change will improve convenience and capacity." How Big Is the Gap in Passenger Numbers? The contrast in traffic is quite stark. On a recent day, the airport handled over 46,000 domestic passengers on nearly 300 flights, compared to just 4,600 international flyers on 35 flights. 'Domestic travel is clearly dominant. This move will make flying smoother and more convenient," said airport director Pravat Ranjan Beuria. What Will the New Terminal Offer? It's expected to handle 11 million passengers annually—9 million international and 2 million domestic. What Happens to the Current Terminal? Once the international facilities shift to the new terminal, the current terminal will gain extra space. This will allow the airport to accommodate up to five million more domestic passengers each year. Facilities like immigration counters, customs areas, and duty-free shops will be moved out, freeing up space for growing local demand. When Will It Be Ready? The project is set to complete by 2030. Meanwhile, officials continue efforts to attract international carriers, especially to Europe. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 11:16 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kadiyam nurseries has been selected as one of the 14 locations across the state where such centres will be developed. The tourism department has invited tenders worth Rs 4.95 crore, and works are expected to begin shortly. Officials said the project aims to enhance infrastructure and attract tourists in large numbers. Internal roads, landscaping, and beautification works will be carried out. The centre will include displays of various plant species, seasonal flower festivals, restaurants and coffee shops serving authentic Godavari delicacies, children's play equipment, parking areas, canal-side beautification, an entertainment area, and boating facilities. Kadiyam nurseries are already a horticultural marvel, spread across over 5,000 acres in villages like Kadiyam, Kadiapulanka, Vemagiri, Muramanda, Madhavarayudupalem, Jegurupadu, Dulla, Kadiyapusavaram, Palathodu, Velagathodu, and some more villages. Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh said the government is determined to elevate Kadiyam into a global eco-tourism destination that will also fascinate foreign visitors. Plans include establishing 28 stalls between Potti Lanka and Kadiyapulanka, along with tourist accommodation facilities. District collector P Prasanthi said that the project will also focus on strengthening nursery-related industries and improving employment opportunities in the region. She added that there are also proposals to produce organic fertilisers using green waste generated from the nurseries. The government envisions Kadiyam nurseries as a model eco-tourism spot that combines horticultural richness with sustainable development and cultural appeal.
