Over 160 missing in Texas flooding
After visiting the area on Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott told reporters that the death toll in the state had risen to 109. He also said 161 people are known to be missing in Kerr County alone, which suffered the worst damage.
Heavy rain began in the early hours of Friday, inundating an area along the Guadalupe River. Authorities said the river rose by about 10 meters in two hours. The flooding caused massive devastation, sweeping away numerous people, including children attending a summer camp along the river.
Local authorities are facing scrutiny for not having flood warning sirens in place along the river.
Commenting on the situation, the governor said, "We're going to address every aspect of this storm to make sure that we're going to have in place the systems that are needed to prevent deadly flooding events like this in the future."
President Donald Trump is expected to visit the affected area on Friday.

Tokaido Shinkansen service was suspended due to the rain between Tokyo and Odawara in Kanagawa Prefecture.
