Bekah Martinez Defends Not Shaving Her Legs For 7 Years

Buzz Feed10-07-2025
Bekah Martinez completely shut down a nasty comment about her body hair, and good for her because I'm so over unnecessary negativity in social media comments sections. Like, where the hell do people get off?
You might remember her as Bekah M. from Season 22 of The Bachelor with Ari Luyendyk, but today she's dragging haters on the internet for criticizing her for not shaving her legs for seven years.
With her Bachelor days behind her, Bekah has been engaged to Grayston Leonard since 2022. On July 9, she shared a comment she received on Instagram that read, "Your face doesn't jive with your hairy legs. Grey must be grossed out." Responding to the comment, that couldn't even get her fiancé's name-spelling right, Bekah defended her choice to remain unshaven.
"I started sneaking my mom's razors in 3rd grade. I remember praying to God that he'd remove all my hair from the neck down. Family, friends, and even teachers and coaches would gently tease when any of my jet black leg stubble was growing out," Bekah wrote. "It was seemingly harmless but continued to reinforce that my body's hair was wrong."
Bekah shared how she doesn't want her children to be shamed by unrealistic beauty standards. She shares three children with Grayston: Ruth, 6, Franklin, 5, and Ernest, 21 months.
"I stopped shaving when I was pregnant with our first child. I wanted my daughter (and my future sons) to see that hair on a woman's body is normal. Not shameful. Not gross," she wrote on a photo of her pregnant. "I wanted to demonstrate that body hair is not 'masculine,' because I am a woman. And so, my body hair is feminine."
Alongside a photo of her walking on the beach with her kids, Bekah said that when her daughter Ruth pointed to her legs and said, "Mom, my legs look like yours' without an ounce of shame, her decision to not shave her legs was worth it.
But, before you assume that it was all about her children's future, think again. Bekah's decision not to shave was rooted in changing how she feels about her own body. She wrote on a photo of her playing on the beach with her kids, "It wasn't just for my kids. It was for me. I wanted to consciously work through the disgust I had in my natural body. I still don't love my body hair. In certain settings I feel people's stares and feel embarassed. But the feeling has so much less power over me than it used to."
People are praising Bekah for her remarks and for not shaving her legs. Here's what some of them are saying:
Good for you, Bekah! Now, I want to hear what you think. Share your thoughts in the comments.

Soundside Music Festival in Connecticut cancels 2025 event over ‘circumstances beyond our control'

Party's over. Connecticut's popular Soundside Music Festival shocked fans when it abruptly cancelled its star-studded event two months before its opening day. 'Due to circumstances beyond our control, [the] Soundside Music Festival has been cancelled,' organizers announced in a statement on the festival's official website on Friday. 'Tickets will be refunded to the original method of payment in as little as 30 days depending on your bank's processing time.' Advertisement 4 The Soundside Music Festival was cancelled on Friday. NBC CT/Instagram Festival organizers didn't go into detail about what caused the cancellation. Thomas Gaudett, the chief administrative officer for Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim, alleged the festival was having trouble selling tickets, according to the CT Insider. Advertisement 'It's our understanding that this year's lineup was drawing a lot fewer attendees than we have seen in the last few years,' Gaudett told the outlet. 'And that may have had an impact on the decision to cancel.' The cancellation allegedly blindsided Bridgeport officials, who insisted the city was 'not involved in the decision-making process' and were told the project was being pulled after the decision was 'finalized,' the outlet added. The Post reached out to the festival for comment. 4 The festival already announced its lineup before the event was cancelled. Ticketmaster Advertisement The festival was originally scheduled for Sept. 27 and 28 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. It had already announced a massive lineup of alternative and electronic dance artists, including The Killers, Weezer, Hozier, Vampire Weekend, Alex Warren, and DJO. The festival wiped its social media accounts, including its Instagram and Facebook pages, which had over 52,000 combined followers after the announcement. Fans have complained about ticket prices in recent months, according to a public Facebook fan page for the festival. Advertisement General admission for a single-day ticket to the festival started at $170, according to the Soundside Music Festival's now-deleted ticket page. 'Maybe if they weren't so greedy with the high ticket cost there would have been higher volume of tickets sold,' one Facebook user speculated on the fan page. 'I personally wasn't into the lineup this year, but everyone has different taste,' another added. 4 The Killers were scheduled to headline on Saturday. 4 Hozier was announced as the headliner on Sunday. Getty Images Last year, the festival had record attendance, with 57,000 concertgoers swarming the waterfront festival — despite the Foo Fighters dropping out late, according to the CT Post. Officials had expected 32,000 people to show up. The Foo Fighters withdrew from the headlining gig after frontman Dave Grohl revealed that he cheated on his wife, Jordyn Blum, and welcomed a daughter outside of his marriage. Previous headliners included John Mayer, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Nicks and Dave Matthews. The inaugural Sound on Sound festival, which was eventually rebranded as the Soundside Music Festival last year, took place in 2022 and was produced by Governor's Ball producers Tom Russell and Jordan Wolowitz, Live Nation, and developer Howard Saffan, according to CT Insider.

Zac Brown reveals engagement to jewelry designer Kendra Scott as legal battle with ex-wife unfolds

Zac Brown is engaged to jewelry designer Kendra Scott following his contentious divorce from ex-wife Kelly Yazdi. During an interview with People magazine published Thursday, the 46-year-old country star and Scott, 51, told the outlet, 'We are so happy and grateful that we found each other.' In a photo obtained by the outlet, Scott showed off her pink diamond engagement ring as she and Brown beamed and embraced while standing on a pier as the sun set behind them. Scott and Brown were seen lying on a lounge chair in another image as the entrepreneur displayed her ring while resting her head on the 'Chicken Fried' hitmaker's shoulder. On Friday, Brown made an appearance on 'Today' while Scott watched from the audience. Ahead of performing, Brown shared that he was feeling 'blessed' the morning after revealing his engagement to Scott. 'I feel great,' Brown said, adding of his proposal, 'I got her good.' Brown was then asked about the 'pressure' of finding the perfect engagement ring for a jewelry designer. 'I know, right? What are you gonna get somebody that designs jewelry?' he said. 'But no, it's incredible, incredible. So happy. We're so happy we found each other and we're blessed.' 6 Kendra Scott and Zac Brown are engaged as the country music star is in the middle of a divorce battle with his ex-wife. The country star tied the knot with actress and model Kelly Yazdi in August 2023, but they announced their separation four months later. Their split quickly turned acrimonious. Though Brown and Yazdi's divorce was finalized in January 2024, the two are currently engaged in a legal battle. In May, Brown filed a lawsuit against Yazdi, accusing her of violating an employee and confidentiality agreement and defaming him after she shared a handful of Instagram posts in which she accused the singer of 'narcissistic abuse.' Yazdi fired back, alleging that Brown was attempting to silence her with his lawsuit. In July, Yazdi sued Brown over the music video for his song 'Beautiful Drug,' which she claimed featured unauthorized footage from their wedding. She also alleged that he cast a lookalike model in the video in an attempt to portray her in a negative light. The two are set to face off in court during a jury trial, which is scheduled for Sept. 15 in Atlanta.

Ashley Judd, 57, shares body-positive message in swimsuit: ‘We don't care club'

Ashley Judd doesn't care. The actress, 57, shared a body-positive message on Instagram Tuesday while swimming in the Baltic Sea. 'Hi, I'm Ashley and I am a member of the 'We don't care club,'' she declared at the start of the video. 'And when I'm in my swim suit [sic], sometimes I get a little chafing, like right down there,' she said, referring to her upper thighs. She explained that she uses cornstarch as a remedy for it and if people can see the residue on her thighs, she doesn't care. Judd went on to address her 'inner child' and said it belongs to the 'MSU club' — aka the 'Make stuff up club.' 'And as a post menopausal woman, I don't care if you don't like the 'MSU club' for inner children,' the 'Double Jeopardy' star screamed as she attempted to backflip into the water. 'I'm also picking my crotch, and I don't care,' she continued while adjusting her one-piece bathing suit. 'I probably have cellulite and I don't care. And I got hungry bum and I don't care.' The actress went on to do several water tricks because 'when we were little it was really fun and we don't care what people think of us.' In the caption of the Instagram Reel, Judd further talked about embracing her aging body. 'What will I, with my freedom & mirth, when I let go of caring about stupid, controlling norms about my female body, be free to enJOY? . . . I bask in the unselfconscious being-ness of my True Self. My Inner Child is free to emerge. She feels confidence & glee. ‍ ‍ ' Fans flooded the comments section applauding her video and relating to her message. 'I love this. It made my inner (and whole being) laugh happily several times. ' one fan wrote. 'Love your I don't care club!' another added. Judd has been a longtime advocate for women. She was one of the first prominent actresses to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment and played a pivotal role in the #MeToo movement. 'The healing I've done has very powerfully shaped my work. It's made me unafraid, it's made me incredibly driven,' Judd told the AP in 2018. The daughter of singing legend Naomi Judd revealed that her mom encouraged her to expose the now-disgraced Hollywood mogul for his abuse. 'I just want to remember when I was speaking to my mother about this she said, 'Go get him, honey' in her sweet way, in dulcet tones… not a punitive bone in her body,' Ashley said of her late mom in October 2022. Ashley revealed that she was the one who found her mother's body after Naomi fatally shot herself in April 2022. 'I went upstairs to let her know that [her] friend was there, and I discovered her. I have both grief and trauma from discovery,' she told Diane Sawyer the next month. Ashley and her half-sister, Wynonna Judd, 61, were left out of their mother's will, but denied that they ever argued over the matter despite speculation. Instead, the Grammy winner insisted that the tragedy brought them closer together. 'Both my parents are gone, and I'm relying on Ashley,' Wynonna told People in October 2022. 'She's relying on me in a different way that's about compassion. It's not about being successful and smart and capable. It's about, 'I love you.' 'I love you, too.' We're vulnerable with each other, and we're tender.'Solve the daily Crossword
