Celebrating 75 years of F1: Kush Maini headlines Alpine's Goodwood line-up

India Gazette2 days ago
New Delhi [India], July 11 (ANI): BWT Alpine Formula One Team Reserve Driver Kush Maini led the team's presence on the opening day of the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking on the iconic Hill Climb in the podium-finishing A523-Alpine's 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship challenger, according to a release from Formula One.
This marked Kush's second appearance at Goodwood, where he served as Alpine's flagbearer, helping kick off the team's 70th anniversary celebrations. Driving the A523, Kush led a spectacular Alpine showcase up the hill, including the classic A110 Berlinette, the A110 R, the A290, the all-new A390, and the Alpenglow concept hypercar.
Currently competing in FIA Formula 2, Kush, being the reserve driver, was Alpine's sole representative at Thursday's Formula 1 demonstration alongside other F1 teams, as the festival marked 75 years of the sport.
The A523 was driven by Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly to fifth in the 2023 FIA Formula One Constructors' World Championship, achieving two impressive podiums in the Monaco and Dutch Grands Prix and third place in the Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Race. The 2023 car was adorned in the team's 2025 livery with its striking blue and pink racing colours.
Owing to his commitment with Mahindra Racing's Formula E team at the Berlin Rookie Test, Kush's appearance at the Festival of Speed was short-lived. Nevertheless, representing India at this iconic event, he continues to lead the country's motorsport charge across global platforms.
'It was a pleasure to return to Goodwood after my first visit last year and help celebrate 75 years of Formula One and 70 years of Alpine. What a drive it was taking on the Hill Climb in the A523 after sampling the E20 last year. Goodwood is definitely an event for the fans, and I loved seeing people come out in numbers,' Kush Maini said. (ANI)

"India bowled brilliantly, picking up four wickets in the session": Anil Kumble hails Indian seamer for brilliance with new ball

London [UK], July 13 (ANI): Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble, after the first session on Day 4 of the third Test, between India and England at the Home of Cricket Lord', praised India's intensity with the ball. India took four wickets in the morning session, at Lunch, England are 98/4 with Ben Stokes 2* (13) and Joe Root 17* (40) unbeaten on the crease. Mohammed Siraj gave England two early blows, removing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope with the new Ball. Speaking on 'Match Centre Live', JioHotstar expert Anil Kumble said, 'That's what Test cricket is all about -- knowing when to raise the intensity. Day 4, with scores level and the game effectively a one-innings shootout, India needed a strong start. India bowled brilliantly, picking up four wickets in the session. The surface has changed -- there was uneven bounce, which both Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett had to deal with. They came in with positive intent, but on this kind of pitch, you might get away with it once or twice, not all the time.' 'Siraj bowled really well to back up Bumrah's opening spell. That review for Ollie Pope's dismissal worked, thanks to his height -- Crawley had escaped in similar fashion earlier. Crawley's dismissal was a bonus; it was a poor shot, trying to drive on the rise. India will be happy with that session.' Kumble also lauded Mohammed Siraj's consistent effort and aggressive mindset, 'What Siraj does so well is put in the effort with every single ball. On a surface like this, you need to hit the deck hard and in the right areas -- and he's done that consistently. In the last Test, without Bumrah, he stepped up with a five-wicket haul, and Akash Deep supported with a ten-wicket match haul. This time, Siraj knew he needed to complement Bumrah, and he's delivered. Even yesterday, in one over while Bumrah was bowling, it was Siraj who was the most fired up. He's that kind of character -- always in the batter's face -- and that seems to bring out the best in him. The only concern is making sure it doesn't go overboard and affect his bowling. But so far, he's been excellent -- consistently hitting the right areas.' Coming to the match, A complete bowling domination from Indian seamers restricted England to 98/4 at the end of the first session on Day 4 of the third Test at Lord's on Sunday. England started Day 4 on 2/0 with Zak Crawley (2) and Ben Duckett (0*) unbeaten on the crease. Opener KL Rahul's ton and left-hand batter Ravindra Jadeja's 72 helped India to level the score at 387 on Saturday at Lord's, which was also set up by England in the first innings of the Test match. England's skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, the Three Lions scored 387 runs thanks to a century stand between Root (104) and Ollie Pope (44) and a counter-attacking 82-run stand between Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith, who both struck fifties down the order. Ollie Pope continues sub-par second innings run following cheap dismissal at Lord's

London [UK], July 13 (ANI): Team India had a dominating first session during day four of the third Test against England at Lord's, reducing England to four wickets down with their number three Ollie Pope continuing his poor second innings run at home. England ended the session at 98/4, with skipper Ben Stokes (2*) and Joe Root (17*) and the team leading by 98 runs. Pope was the second casualty of the day for England, falling leg-before-wicket to Mohammed Siraj for just four runs. This dismissal continued Pope's awful run in second innings of his side in Tests. In 45 innings, Pope has scored just 825 runs at an average of 19.64, with a century and two fifties, with best score of 196. Pope is far more intimidating statiscally in the first innings, scoring 2,662 runs in 59 innings at an average of 46.70, with eight centuries and 13 fifties. His best score is 205. Despite his immense talent and technical ability, Pope has enjoyed a mixed bag of a Test career so far, scoring 3,487 runs at an average of 35.22, with nine centuries and 15 fifties in 104 innings. His best score is 205. England started Day 4 on 2/0 with Zak Crawley (2) and Ben Duckett (0*) unbeaten on the crease. Mohammed Siraj gave the host an early blow as he removed Duckett for 12 in the 6th over, and Ollie Pope joined Crawley in the middle. Just before drinks in the first session, Siraj grabbed his second wicket of the innings by removing Pope for just four. At drinks, England were 42/2 with Zak Crawley 17 (43) unbeaten on the crease. Joe Root joined Crawley in the middle, and England crossed the 50-run mark in the 15th over after Root pushed the ball towards deep point for a single. Nitish Kumar Reddy removed Crawley for 22 runs off 49 balls, including four fours. Crawley's drought for runs in the series continues. Harry Brook came to the crease after Crawley's wicket. Brook took on Indian bowlers as he hurried on to 23 off just 17 balls. Akash Deep took his first wicket of the match as he cleaned up Brook for 23, and England skipper Ben Stokes joined Root in the middle. Earlier in the match, Opener KL Rahul's ton and left-hand batter Ravindra Jadeja's 72 helped India to level the score at 387 on Saturday at Lord's, which was also set up by England in the first innings of the Test match. Brief Scores: England: 387 & 2/0 (Ben Duckett 0*, Zak Crawly 2*; Jasprit Bumrah 0/2) vs India: 387 (KL Rahul 100, Rishabh Pant 74; Chris Woakes 3/84). England 98/4 ( Harry Brook 23, Zak Crawley 22; Mohammed Siraj 2/11). (ANI)

Kaif reflects on India's 2002 Natwest series win, hails Gill for replicating Ganguly's

New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif on Sunday reminisced over India's Natwest tri-nation series win in England 23 years back, also recalling how the current Indian Test skipper is replicating the 'aggression and ambition' of former captain Sourav Ganguly, who captured the tri-nation series title for Men in Blue. 23 years back, phenomenal knocks from Kaif and Yuvraj Singh announced to the world the arrival of a young, attacking and a fearless Team India as they chased down 326 runs set by England during the final of the Natwest series at Lord's, which till this day remains one of India's most iconic wins ever across any format of the game. Sourav's act of going shirtless and waving it from the stadium's balcony is considered as one of the greatest moments of Indian cricket history, becoming a symbol of aggression it would adapt in years to come, even in the territories of their fiercest rivals. He had avenged a similar act done by Flintoff at Wankhede's Stadium in 2002, India's most iconic venue and in a way, the centre of Indian cricket. Reminiscing on the win, Kaif took to X and wrote, 'This July 13 is special. Dada led us to Natwest title with aggression and ambition. Now 23 years later, Shubman Gill's doing the same with his young team. And we didn't chase down 325 by playing Bazball. #natwesttrophy #Lords.' After electing to bat first, England put on 325/5 in their 50 overs. Skipper Naseer scored 115 in 128 balls, with 10 fours. He had a 185-run stand with Marcus Trescothick for the second wicket. The left-handed Trescothick also scored a brutal 109 in just 100 balls, with seven fours and two sixes. All-rounder Andrew Flintoff played a supporting knock of 40 in 32 balls. The Indian bowling line-up was taken to cleaners. England's mean, ferocious batters left no corner of the Lord's untouched. Zaheer Khan (3/62) was the pick of the bowlers for India, but he received his share of beating as well. Ashish Nehra (1/66) and Anil Kumble (1/54) also took wickets. India needed 326 runs to win the final. But the possibility of an Indian win looked doubtful as during this period, India had often made a mess out of big run chases. Youngsters in the team also did not have plenty of big-match experience to settle the nerves and chase smoothly. Openers Sehwag (45 in 49 balls with seven fours) and Ganguly (60 in 43 balls, with 10 fours and a six) nonetheless, gave India the start they wanted, scoring 106 in just 15 overs. After dismissals of both openers, India lost direction with some quick wickets. Ronnie Irani and Ashley Giles had struck, getting big wickets of Sachin (14) and Dravid (5). With India at 146/5 in 24 overs, without much experience and recognised batters left in the line-up, youngsters Yuvraj and Mohammed Kaif played with responsibility and helped India cross 250 runs. They stitched a sixth-wicket stand of 121 runs, which Collingwood ended by dismissing Yuvraj for 69 (63 balls), which consisted of nine fours and a six. Kaif kept fighting with the tailenders. He stitched a valuable 47-run stand with Harbhajan Singh, who scored 15 runs worth its weight in gold. Kaif and Zaheer (4*) helped India seal a two-wicket win with three balls to go. Kaif was India's hero, scoring 87* in just 75 balls with six fours and two sixes. Irani, Giles and Flintoff took two wickets each but India pulled off a heist, highlighting their fighting spirit and attacking game. Notably, in this England tour so far, Gill has shown flashes of his tactical brilliance, aggression and an immense hunger for runs. His marathon 269 and 161 at Birmingham helped India register their first-ever win at the venue, that too by 336 runs. His act of consistently sledging England players and trying to act under their skins is very reminiscent of his idol and ex-Indian captain, Virat Kohli. (ANI)
