Toll collection suspended on 28 km stretch of Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway from today

This decision has been taken in the larger public interest to ensure commuter safety and convenience during the repair phase.
The 125 km corridor from Sanchore in Rajasthan to Santalpur in Gujarat's Patan district forms a vital segment of the economic corridor that aims to significantly improve inter-state connectivity across India's northern and eastern regions.
The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway also plays a strategic role in enhancing access to major ports such as Jamnagar, Kandla, and Mundra, thereby strengthening India's international trade logistics and reducing travel time for freight movement across the country.
Earlier on July 7, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed that all damage to highways, as well as rural and urban roads, caused by heavy monsoon rains, be repaired on a priority basis and restored to their original condition without delay, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a press release. In a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised that road networks, crucial for development and daily public transportation, must not remain damaged due to heavy rainfall, and that immediate repairs should be undertaken to ensure their continued operation. He held a meeting in Gandhinagar with senior officials from the relevant departments to review the current status of national highways, state highways, and roads under the purview of panchayats in rural areas, towns, and metropolitan cities.

In the meeting, CM Bhupendra Patel stated that road and bridge repairs, including patchwork, should not be delayed awaiting the end of rainfall. He emphasised that not a single day with no or minimal rainfall should go to waste, and that repair work must continue even on holidays in the interest of the public. He further stated that in cases where damage occurs or repairs are required within the Defect Liability Period, the responsibility must be fixed on the contractor, and appropriate action should be taken. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the quality of all repair and construction works.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel approves action plan for AI implementation
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Saturday approved the 'Action Plan for Implementation of Artificial Intelligence 2025-2030', under which one of the goal is to train over 2.5 lakh people, including students, those with MSME and government officials, in AI, machine learning, and related domains, to facilitate 'smart decision-making, citizen-focused schemes, efficient service delivery, and effective welfare programmes'. The decision is based on recommendations of the 10-member task force formed to realise the aim of using AI in governance, healthcare, education, agriculture, fintech, and other critical sectors across the state, as was envisioned in a 'chintan shibir' in November last year. 'To ensure the structured and timely implementation of the action plan, the state will establish a dedicated AI and deep tech mission. This mission will function as a specialised institutional mechanism, leading the design, implementation, and innovation of AI strategies and emerging technologies within the state government. Additionally, it will strengthen a robust ecosystem by fostering collaboration among startups, academic research, and industries. The mission will focus on skilling, reskilling, and upskilling the workforce in AI and related technologies', a government release said. The roadmap developed by the Science and Technology department focuses primarily on establishing a secure, interoperable, and regulatory-compliant data ecosystem for AI development, strengthening digital infrastructure, building capacities by training, facilitating partnerships between academia and industry and supporting start-ups engaged in deeptech through incubation, mentorship, infrastructure credits and seed funding. The entire exercise has a five-year-timeline with 2030 as the realisation year.

Demand to extend Kundannoor-Angamaly bypass to Kodungallur
Kochi: Aiming to decongest the key road stretch connecting Kodungallur and Angamaly, a fresh demand is being raised to extend the ongoing Kundannoor-Angamaly Bypass Road project on national highway (NH) 544 up to Kodungallur. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Benny Behanan, MP, has approached Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari with the demand to construct a six-lane highway connecting Kodungallur and Angamaly. The MP said that the minister promised a proper step on the demand. NHAI has begun land acquisition procedures for the bypass road of NH 544, from Kundannoor to Angamaly, and the processes are in the final stage. "Linking the proposed Kundannoor-Angamaly highway with Angamaly-Kodungallur Road by constructing a six-lane highway towards Kodungallur from Angamaly town will help reduce traffic congestion in Kochi city and its surrounding areas. If the six-lane highway is constructed, it will enable travellers from northern part of Kerala to reach Kochi airport and cargo vehicles to reach Vallarpadam container terminal without any hindrance and in a timely manner. Additionally, the project will contribute to commercial progress of these regions," said Behanan. The MP has demanded the Union minister to include the project, which costs around Rs 2,500 crore, in the Bharatmala project or the national highways development project. During his meeting with Gadkari, Behanan pointed out that NHAI authorities are turning a blind eye to the public demand for construction of flyovers or underpasses at Perambra, Muringoor, Chirangara and Koratti areas on NH 544 stretching from Angamaly to Thrissur. "As national highway authorities are not ready to consider the proposal yet, the stretch of highway is experiencing severe traffic congestion. The minister assured that a permanent solution will be provided for this issue," said the MP.
