Two detained under Goondas Act for manufacturing spurious liquor
The duo has been identified as K. Rajasekar, 45, of Marakkanam and S. Pandian, 46, of Ramapuram in Chennai.
The CIU police busted a fake liquor manufacturing unit at Poothurai near Puducherry on May 9 and arrested the duo. They ran a fake bottling unit on the premises and sold spurious liquor by affixing fake labels.
Acting on the recommendations of Villupuram Superintendent of Police P. Saravanan, Collector Shiek Abdul Rahman invoked the provisions of the Goondas Act against them. The orders were served on them in the Cuddalore Central Prison.

Goondas invoked against two auto drivers for robbing migrant workers
COIMBATORE: Coimbatore's Racecourse police have invoked the Goondas Act against two auto-rickshaw drivers at Coimbatore railway station for robbing migrant workers in the guise of offering rides. According to a police release, City Police Commissioner A Saravana Sundar on Wednesday ordered the detention of the two auto-rickshaw drivers under the Goondas Act based on their criminal history. Previously, on June 18, Racecourse police arrested three auto-rickshaw drivers—K Mohammed Azharuddin (25) of Pullukkadu, B Nowfal Basha (29) of Thennampalayam, and R Senthilkumar (33) from Selvapuram—for robbing Rs 13,000 from three migrant workers. The victims, unfamiliar with the local area, had arrived in Coimbatore on June 14 for job opportunities and approached the drivers for transportation outside the Coimbatore railway station. Instead of taking them to their destinations, the drivers drove them around the city and extorted money. They forced Shivkumar from Uttar Pradesh to obtain Rs 4,000 from his family by threatening him. Similarly, they extorted Rs 9,000 from Ali Kadar Sheikh and Kushal Biswas, both from West Bengal, via UPI payments. The drivers were subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody on June 18. The Racecourse police later filed another case against Senthilkumar and Basha for a similar robbery on June 14, in which they robbed money from five other migrant workers who had arrived at Coimbatore railway station. After news of their arrest spread, these victims came forward to complain. Police also urged the public to report any other instances of robbery by the gang. Meanwhile, Racecourse Police Inspector L Kandaswamy submitted a detailed report against the duo, based on their criminal history, recommending their detention under the Goondas Act. The detention order was served to them at the prison.

Two auto drivers detained under Goondas Act for robbing guest workers in Coimbatore

Race Course police had arrested three autorickshaw drivers- K Mohammed Azharuddin, 25, B Nowfal Basha, 29, and R Senthilkumar, 33, on June 18 for robbing 13,000 from three guest workers. The victims, unfamiliar with local areas, had approached the drivers for transportation outside the Coimbatore railway station. They were subsequently attested and remanded in judicial custody, Race Course police inspector Kandasamy submitted a detailed report against Senthilkumar and Nowfal Basha, based on their criminal history, recommending their detention under the Goondas Act.

T.N. DGP Shankar Jiwal lauds Government Railway Police for ensuring quick trial in sexual assault case
The Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal on Tuesday appreciated the police team that ensured the speedy trial and conviction of the lone accused in sexual assault on a pregnant woman while she was travelling in an express train. On February 6, a pregnant woman was travelling alone in the women's compartment of Coimbatore–Tirupati Intercity Express. During the journey, the victim was sexually assaulted and pushed out of the moving train near Jolarpet by the accused, Hemaraj, a 27-year-old from Vellore district. Police said, on February 7, a case was registered at Jolarpet Railway Police Station and the accused was arrested by Government Railway Police (GRP) on the same day. Subsequently, he was detained under the Goondas Act. An investigation was carried out and a charge sheet was filed within 47 days before the District Sessions Court in Tirupathur. The case was taken up for trial on May 2 as the police and the prosecution took steps to expedite the trial process as per law. The accused was found guilty on July 11 by the court. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment till death on July 14, said police. In recognition of the dedicated efforts resulting in the life conviction of the accused within five months, Mr. Jiwal appreciated and rewarded the Investigation Officer and the team on Tuesday at the police headquarters.
