Himachal Pradesh Suffers Losses Of Over Rs 1500 Crore During Ongoing Monsoon Season
Since the onset of monsoon in the state on June 20 till date, Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses of over Rs 1,500 crores, officials said on Sunday.
So far, 88 people have died and 35 have gone missing in rain-related incidents, and 1,316 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state. The state has experienced 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts and 32 landslides during this monsoon, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
The local Met office on Sunday issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas in four districts - Kangra, Kullu Mandi and Shimla - for Tuesday.
Light to moderate rains lashed some parts of the state in the past 24 hours since Saturday evening. Dharamshala received 35 mm of rainfall, followed by Malraon 26.4 mm, Kangra 26 mm, Dhaulakuan 17.5 mm, Kahu 14.5 mm, Manali 11 mm, Jot 10.8 mm, Jubberhatti 10.4 mm, Bajaura 10 mm, Joggindernagar 6 mm and Narkanda 5.5 mm.
Thunderstorms lashed Sundernagar, Shimla, Murari Devi and Jubbarhatti.
Nearly 200 roads, including two national highways, were closed for vehicular traffic on Sunday evening owing to the rains and 75 power distribution transformers and 97 water supply schemes have also been affected across the state.
Around 131 roads, including the Manali-Kotali road (NH-70), were closed in Mandi district alone, where multiple cloudbursts wreaked havoc on June 30 night. National Highway (305) Sainj to Aut road is blocked at Kekhsu and Jhed due to landslides in Kullu district.
There was no significant change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, and Kukumseri was coldest at night, recording a low of 12.8 degrees Celsius, while Una was hottest in the day with a high of 35.6 degrees.

Chikkamagaluru: District in-charge secretary Rajender Kumar Kataria has directed the district administration to remove the encroachments in the Amrit Mahal Kaval area. Additionally, 525.4 km of rural roads were damaged, incurring a loss of Rs 2.8 crore. In rural areas, 28 bridges and culverts were damaged, with a loss of Rs 4.40 crore. During the same period, 11 govt school buildings were damaged by rain, causing a loss of Rs 22 lakh. Two primary health centres in Chikkamagaluru taluk were also damaged, with a loss of Rs 4 lakh. Overall, govt building damages resulted in a loss of Rs 26 lakh. Since June, 38 houses were damaged due to rain, with 9 completely damaged and compensation was provided to eight. Compensation for the remaining 16 houses is pending, she informed. Bengal to get more rain; South Bengal districts on Yellow alert

The weather bureau predicted light to moderate rainfall with possible thunderstorms in South Bengal districts like Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and Kolkata. State capital Kolkata experienced overcast conditions on Sunday, but there was only 0.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.2 degree Celsius on Sunday. Humidity levels were on the higher side, ranging from 83 per cent to 100 per cent. Meanwhile, the IMD has put North Bengal districts like Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar under an Orange alert (Be Prepared), expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) on Sunday. Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, and Kalimpong are under a Yellow alert and are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall. Warnings have been issued for possible lightning and local flooding in low-lying areas across the region. In its bulletin, the IMD also stated that a 'trough runs from cyclonic circulation associated with the well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood to northeast Bangladesh across northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and north Gangetic West Bengal between 0.9 to 5.8 km above mean sea level.' Under the influence of this strong monsoon flow, widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely to continue over West Bengal, with heavy rainfall activity expected at one or two places in some districts over the next few days.
