APNA condemns delay in foreign med graduates' registration
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (APNA) has issued a strong condemnation against the 'unlawful delay' by the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) in issuing permanent registration certificates to eligible Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs). The association also sharply criticised the alleged brutal treatment of peacefully protesting FMGs by the police, including the reported dragging of female doctors by their hair. In a statement released here on Friday, president of APNA Dr A V Subba Reddy expressed deep concern over the ongoing issue. 'We are strongly condemning the unlawful delay in giving permanent registration certificates by APMC to the eligible foreign medical graduates,' he stated, highlighting the plight of these doctors, who are reportedly unable to practice due to bureaucratic hurdles. Adding to their condemnation, Subba Reddy, who is also National Organisational General Secretary of FPHANAI (Federation of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association of India), vehemently protested the arrests made during a recent demonstration. 'We are strongly condemning the unlawful arrest of the foreign graduates when they are doing their protest very peacefully without any disturbance to the public, traffic, or anybody.' He particularly decried the methods used by law enforcement during the arrests. 'The way they have arrested and the objectionable way of behavior of police with the lady doctors, dragging them by catching their hair, it is more brutal behavior. We are strongly condemning it,' he declared, calling for immediate action and accountability regarding the alleged police misconduct. The incident has sparked outrage among the medical fraternity, raising questions about the treatment of protesting professionals and the efficiency of the registration process for foreign medical graduates in Andhra Pradesh. Subba Reddy has urged the authorities to expedite the registration process for FMGs and to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged police brutality.

Scheme to grant monthly financial assistance to children affected by HIV/AIDS launched
The Health department on Tuesday launched one of its key budget announcements to grant monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 to 7,618 children affected by HIV/AIDS for their education, medical and nutritional needs. Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, who launched the scheme at an event held to mark the World Blood Donors Day, said that during 2009-2010, former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had launched a trust fund for children affected by HIV/AIDS with a corpus of ₹5 crore. Through this, financial assistance was being provided every year for children aged below 18 years towards their education, medical and nutritional needs. This year, an announcement was made during the department's debate on the demand for grants for 2025-2026 to provide monthly assistance of ₹1,000 to children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Along with this, the department also launched 11 Red Ribbon Clubs to create awareness on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections among college students. An announcement to create awareness of HIV/AIDS among adolescents - students of classes VIII, IX and XI in 9,830 schools in the State - was made earlier. In a step towards this, it was decided to impart life skills training to students of 100 schools. The initiative was launched in 11 schools on the occasion, a press release said.

Youth advised to donate blood
Guntur: Minister for Medical and Health Y Satya Kumar Yadav urged the youth to come forward to donate the blood. He addressed a meeting held under the aegis of Indian Red Cross Society AP State Branch at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Saturday, on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day.' Speaking on the occasion, he explained the significance of blood donation and urged the NGOs to conduct a campaign to motivate the people for blood donation. He presented the Karl Landsteiner Award to commissioner of Customs and Central GST Sadhu Narashima Reddy by the Indian Red Cross Society for organising mega blood donation camps for the sake of thalassemia patients. Indian Red Cross Society AP branch vice president P Ramachandra Raju, GST officials Nagaraju, Ravi Kumar, Eswara Rao, Gade Srinviasa Reddy, Purna Sai were present.
