Dak Prescott is entering his 10th year as quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, nearing an entire decade under center for one of the
NFL
's greatest franchises. Following a difficult 2024 season plagued by hamstring injury and follow-up surgery, doubts have swirled regarding his long-term tenure with the team.
But according to one NFL source, Dak Prescott's place in Dallas is solidly entrenched.
Dak Prescott enters 10th year with Dallas Cowboys after tough 2024 season
Dak Prescott's 2024 campaign was statistically one of the least productive of his career. He threw for 65% completion, 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions—a world away from his 2023 stats, when he managed 36 touchdowns to only nine picks in taking the Cowboys to 12-5. But even with the slump, ESPN's Todd Archer was adamant that the veteran quarterback's job is not under threat.
"The Cowboys signed him to an extension through 2028 in September that made him the highest-paid quarterback in the game," Todd Archer wrote. "There is not an escape until maybe after the 2027 season. But the contract will be something Prescott will have to measure up to in 2025. He turns 32 in July. In the past five seasons, he has missed time with ankle, thumb, calf and hamstring injuries."
Dak Prescott: Grateful for the Opportunity | Dallas Cowboys 2025
While Dak Prescott will be 32 in July and has fought through a string of injuries, including issues with his ankle, thumb, calf, and hamstring, his status as QB1 in Dallas looks unscathed, particularly in light of the team's offseason roster moves and the configuration of his deal.
The Cowboys have built around Dak Prescott, indicating that they think he is the franchise centerpiece. With consecutive NFL Drafts, Dallas drafted a pair of first-round offensive linemen, building protection for their quarterback. This off-season, they also made a trade for wide receiver George Pickens, adding to a receiving corps headed by CeeDee Lamb, who is on the ascent toward his peak.
Competition for the position at the quarterback slot, meanwhile, does not appear to be an issue.
Rookie Joe Milton, who was picked up from the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, is not considered a threat. A former quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers, there could be developmental potential with him, but that does not currently appear to be something on the horizon, based on an inside source within the Cowboys.
With 122 career games, 31,437 passing yards, and 213 touchdowns, Prescott continues to rank as one of the league's more experienced and productive quarterbacks.
His career win percentage of 61% only emphasizes his capacity for getting Dallas to regular-season success consistently.

While pressure to deliver postseason glory will never be less than huge in Dallas, especially given the team's championship ambitions, Prescott's employment is not in jeopardy, at least not yet. As long as he can stay healthy and get back into form in 2025, the Cowboys will support their franchise quarterback.

'Make his day miserable': Travis Kelce reveals how NFL teams might target Travis Hunter with brutal endurance strategy this season

Travis Kelce anticipates NFL teams will strategically target Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter (Image via MARCA, LAPRESSE) Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter is drawing praise—and strategic concern—from NFL stars like Travis Kelce . As Hunter prepares to play both offense and defense, Kelce shared a blunt take on how teams might handle the challenge: wear him out. On a recent podcast, the Chiefs tight end detailed how opponents could exploit Hunter's two-way role with relentless, exhausting tactics. Why Travis Kelce thinks teams will try to wear Travis Hunter down — literally During a candid appearance on the Bussin' With the Boys podcast, Travis Kelce was asked if he believed Hunter — a rare two-way player — could succeed in today's NFL. Without hesitation, Kelce responded, 'Hell yes, 100%. World class athlete. ... I saw him play basketball and I was like, 'Oh yeah, he's an athlete.'' While Kelce expressed admiration for Hunter's elite skillset, he also pointed out the reality of how NFL defenses might handle such a versatile weapon. Hunter, who plays both wide receiver and cornerback, could become a prime target for physical and mental fatigue. 'Both sides? That's the thing, I don't know how they're going to divy it out,' Kelce explained. 'I don't know, because teams are going to be going after him. They're gonna try and make his day miserable. If he plays corner, they're gonna run deep balls at him all day... just to try to get him tired. Why wouldn't you just attack him that way?" Deion Sanders says Travis Hunter won't tire out — and the NFL might be easier Hunter's incredible stamina was on full display at Colorado, where he averaged 118 snaps per game. His college coach, Deion Sanders, believes the slower tempo of the NFL might actually help his star pupil manage the physical toll. While the Jaguars have primarily lined Hunter up on offense during OTAs, they're still committed to developing him as a two-way threat. Whether he can thrive on both sides consistently remains to be seen — but Kelce's comments hint at the mental chess match already forming around the rookie. Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce still can't dethrone the Dallas Cowboys as 'America's Team' despite Chiefs' meteoric rise

Despite the Chiefs' surge in popularity—thanks in large part to 's high-profile romance with Travis Kelce—the Dallas Cowboys still hold firm as 'America's Team.' From record-breaking TV ratings to decades of branding power, no amount of pop culture buzz has been enough to dethrone the Cowboys' legacy as the NFL's most iconic and nationally beloved franchise. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Cowboys' legacy still defines the NFL's national identity The nickname "America's Team" was coined by NFL Films in the late 1970s after the Cowboys lost to the Steelers in Super Bowl XIII. Even though they didn't win, their blend of star power, consistent success, and massive nationwide appeal made the nickname stick. As former head coach Tom Landry once admitted, he wasn't fond of the title because it 'put a bullseye on the team,' but over time, the identity became iconic. That legacy hasn't faded. In fact, it was reinforced during the 2024 Thanksgiving Day matchup between the Cowboys and the Giants, which drew a staggering 38.8 million viewers — peaking at 41.3 million. It was the most-watched regular-season game of the year. These numbers are a clear indicator that, love them or hate them, America tunes in for the Cowboys. The Swift-Kelce effect is massive, but not enough While the Cowboys represent decades of branding power, the Chiefs have enjoyed a rapid rise in both on-field performance and pop culture relevance — largely due to the romance between Kelce and Swift. Her appearances at games and the resulting media buzz introduced the NFL to a whole new demographic: Swifties. But despite Swift's overwhelming influence and the Chiefs' dominance in recent Super Bowls, the idea that Kansas City could suddenly replace the Cowboys as America's favorite team remains far-fetched. As the article emphasizes, 'the title of 'America's Team' still belongs to the Dallas Cowboys.' Ultimately, it comes down to one word: branding. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Cowboys have spent decades building a global image that's tightly woven into the fabric of American sports culture. From their recognizable star logo to their enduring media visibility, the Cowboys are more than a football team — they are a cultural institution. Also Read: While the Chiefs may be this decade's NFL darlings, and Taylor Swift might dominate every headline, "America's Team" is more than popularity. It's heritage, consistency, and unrivaled recognition — and that still belongs to Dallas.
