European champion PSG knocks out Lionel Messi, Inter Miami in convincing fashion to advance to Club World Cup quarterfinal

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami were knocked out of the Club World Cup Round of 16 by European champion Paris Saint-Germain in dominant fashion 4-0 on Sunday. It was PSG's third clean sheet in its last four matches. Messi, who spent two seasons between 2021-23 with PSG, saw his former team score early and often in front of more than 65,000 fans at Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the first half. PSG midfielder João Neves got things started with a goal in the sixth minute. The 20-year-old would score again in the 39th minute as Inter Miami got careless deep in their own half. It was Neves' first brace of his career. Five minutes later, an own goal by Inter Miami defender Tomas Aviles, who was subbed into the match in the 19th minute, gave PSG a commanding 3-0 lead. But the Champions League winners weren't done as PSG defender Achraf Hakimi scored just moments later in stoppage time as PSG would go into the locker room up 4-0. FOUR. continue! 👊#PSGMIA I #FIFACWC 'We (had) a very good game. Even when we were winning four-nil, we didn't stop. We keep on playing our game and I think it was a positive day for us,' Neves said after the match. 'It's the first time I scored two in one game, so I'm very happy but I'm happier for the win.' PSG head coach Luis Enrique said it was a 'great feeling' after the convincing victory. 'I'm happy with all the players, with the mentality and the attitude. I think we need to improve, like always. … But, I'm happy.' PSG will next play either Brazilian club CR Flamengo or Bundesliga champion FC Bayern Munich in the quarterfinal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday. Miami, who had only three shots on goal against PSG, was the only Major League Soccer team to make it through to the knockout stages, with the Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles FC being eliminated from the competition. Miami contingent Messi, Luis Suárez, head coach Javier Mascherano, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Albi faced off against their former coach Enrique, who led them to a historic treble at Barcelona in 2015. 'We were working hard. We were playing well during this tournament,' Mascherano said. 'We know that today was going to be very, very difficult because they are probably the best team in the world.'

Singer Addison Rae's Makeup-Free Press Tour Is Causing a Stir on Social Media

Addison Rae is no stranger to the spotlight, having gained a huge fanbase through her TikTok dance videos in 2019. In recent years, though her following stands at a whopping 88.5M, the influencer slowed her activity on the platform that made me famous. Instead, she's shifted her focus to acting and music, releasing singles like 'Diet Pepsi' and 'Aquamarine,' and even popping up on the soundtrack of the summer in 2024 with Charli XCX's Brat on the track 'Von Dutch.' Addison is now back in the public eye with her self-titled debut album, Addison, which gives fans a glimpse into her journey growing up in the public eye and navigating the challenges of fame. The 24-year-old, who is currently traveling across the U.S. on a press tour, has been receiving praise from fans who can't help but notice that something is missing from the typical pop star aesthetic—and that's the absence of makeup. For a non-famous person, this would not be newsworthy. But for one of the world's most recognizable social media figures—and celebrities, in general—it is notable to be seen and photographed making major public appearances without a full face of base, blush, and beyond. ScreenshotHQ shared their commentary on the conversation surrounding Rae's minimalist look, noting 'how harshly women in these industries get judged on their appearances' and captioning a TikTok on the topic, 'Bare-faced looks are all the rage right now and it's an empowering message to other pop queens that no make-up might just be the way forward.' Others on the platform, too, have praised the singer's decision to skip the heavy base, big lashes, and intense contouring often seen as synonymous with influencer culture. View this post on Instagram A post shared by SCREENSHOT (@screenshothq) It may not break the same societal boundaries as, say, 57-year-old Pamela Anderson going completely makeup-free on red carpets and magazine covers, but Rae's decision to skip the glam squad is making waves in the news and on social media nonetheless, with some comparing the singer to an iconic pop star. 'The next Britney Spears,' one commenter wrote on Rae's most recent TikTok. In 2020, the singer took Vogue through her 16-step routine, which featured notably few makeup products. ('Maybe my staple look is just a really blushy cheek and really pink lips!') That year, Rae also launched Item Beauty, a line of vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics. The brand, aimed at accentuating one's natural features, aligned with the star's longtime embrace of soft, girl-next-door glamour, though her red-carpet style featured the occasional bold look, like the glittering lids she wore to coordinate with her 2022 Met Gala gown. Pop music has undoubtedly seen artists with more dramatic aesthetics dominate the charts in the past year. Sabrina Carpenter's glamorous, old Hollywood-inspired looks, Tate McRae's sporty-chic fashion, and Chappell Roan's drag-influenced style have all been at the forefront of online conversation. Still, unlike decades past when top stars tended to follow similar trends, there's room for everyone in 2025, and Addison's minimal-makeup approach—a testament to the same vulnerable and raw style she expresses in her lyrics—is adding something new to the mix.

Mets hold players-only meeting after losing 12 of past 15 games, including two blowout losses to Pirates

Following two straight blowout defeats to the Pittsburgh Pirates (by a combined score of 18-3) and losing 12 of their past 15 games, the New York Mets held a players-only meeting on Saturday. "Six or seven players" spoke during the meeting, according to outfielder Brandon Nimmo. That included Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. "I mean, we're not playing well," Nimmo told reporters, via SNY. "We've won a couple games, but we haven't been able to put it together. So, you know, just put things out there, talk about it as a team and move on." Advertisement Lindor said a meeting wasn't called, per se, but developed "organically" as players were talking in the clubhouse after Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Pirates. "Collectively as a group, we decided to start talking to each other and that's what good teams do," he said. "We all rely on each other, we all bounce ideas from each other and yeah this is a big team thing." Despite the recent losing stretch, the Mets (48-36) are only a half-game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. So there was no need for a big speech from anyone, according to Lindor. Yet some urgency to the season was addressed. "Nothing but winning. This is not, 'Rah rah, just now the season is going to turn around,'" Lindor added. "We are competing still. We are one game, a game and a half from first place. We are at the top in the wild card. "This is not like a magic thing," he continued. "Nobody's hoping for that. This is not how it works... It's part of the adversity we're dealing with." However, Soto did voice what could be viewed as a motivational message, according to players. "Keep going," he said, according to the New York Post's Mike Puma. "Believe in it." Advertisement Soto has certainly done his part to impact the Mets' success in June, batting .322 with a 1.214 OPS, 11 home runs and 20 RBI. But the entire team needs to join in that effort, according to Alonso. 'Just collectively as a group — offensively, defensively, baserunning — we're not playing our cleanest baseball,' Alonso told reporters. 'We're not playing to our maximum potential right now. It shows in the record. We're playing good games or staying in games, but I think we need to do a better job of finishing.' The Mets finish their series in Pittsburgh with Frankie Montas Jr. making his second start of the season since returning from the injured list with a lat strain. Up next is a six-game homestand versus the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees.
