Terrorism handled with iron fist under Modi Govt: Shah in RS

New Delhi, July 30 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah today launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during a fiery address in the Rajya Sabha, asserting that the terrorists behind several high-profile attacks during the UPA era had been eliminated under the Modi government's recent counter-terror operations—Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev.
In a sharp political offensive during participation in debate on Operation Sindoor, Shah accused the Congress, particularly former Home Minister P. Chidambaram, of shielding Pakistan-backed narratives for the sake of "vote-bank politics".
He alleged that the UPA government was reluctant to take strong action against terrorists and instead relied on diplomatic paperwork.
'Under Operation Sindoor, many key terrorists like Hafiz Muhammad, Mudassar, Mohamad Hamza, Mohammed Hazar, Abdul Malik and others have either been killed or incapacitated,' Shah told the Upper House, adding that several of them were so severely injured 'they won't be able to commit another terror attack in the future.'
Hitting out at Chidambaram for questioning the nationality of the slain militants, Shah retorted: 'Why does Chidambaram need proof? Who is he trying to save—Pakistan or Lashkar?'
He went on to accuse the Congress of "placing national security second to appeasement politics."
Referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Home Minister disclosed that the three Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders involved—identified as Suleimani, Afghan, and Jibran—were neutralised in Operation Mahadev conducted on Monday.
He cited forensic evidence and eyewitness testimonies linking the trio to the attack, and attributed the plot to Lashkar's proxy outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF).
'Unlike the past, we did not wait. I reached Srinagar the same day,' Shah recalled.
'Congress kept sending dossiers, but under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, we gave a direct response. Only fear ensures peace with terrorists.'
In an apparent swipe at Chidambaram, Shah questioned the Congress' credibility on national security.
'He says Operation Sindoor wasn't decisive. Was 1965 or 1971 decisive then? Why did terrorism rise so drastically under Congress?' he asked, pointing to what he termed a history of inaction and weak responses under previous governments.
The Opposition, led by the Congress and other INDIA bloc constituents, staged a walkout during Shah's reply, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence in the House to answer questions related to Operation Sindoor. The protest unfolded just as Shah began responding to their concerns.
Shah said as per the rule, it is the Government's prerogative who will speak in the House.

Jagdeep Dhankar forced out by government as he decided to go by book: Mallikarjun Kharge

NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday claimed that former vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced out by the Modi govt because after years of "harassing" the opposition, he suddenly decided to move by the book. The decision to admit the notice to remove Justice Shekhar Yadav, along with the one against Justice Yashwant Varma, riled the govt, and PM Narendra Modi gave Dhankhar the option of either withdrawing his order or face action, Kharge alleged. He said Dhankhar opted to resign. Speaking at Congress's annual legal conclave, Kharge recounted the "harassment" of the opposition at the hands of Dhankhar. He mentioned that Dhankhar had suspended a record number of MPs from Rajya Sabha, while Congress MP Rajni Patil was suspended for seven months, lamenting "this is their democracy". But then, he said, Dhankhar one day woke up to his constitutional role because he realised that his tenure would be remembered in history if he worked as per rules, rubbing the PM and BJP the wrong way. The Congress brass, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, attended the conclave themed "Constitutional Challenges: Perspectives & Pathways". "We will oppose every attempt to undermine the Constitution, in Parliament, in courts, and on the streets. Our mission is clear - to reclaim the republic and protect the rights of each and every person," Sonia Gandhi said. Kharge alleged that when Dhankhar started asserting that he was independent and allowed a notice for the opposition's motion to remove Varma, he was "threatened and pressured" by the govt. This is the first time that the Congress brass linked Dhankhar's resignation, which it called sacking, to govt pressure on constitutional offices. Earlier, whenever Kharge was asked about the reason for Dhankhar's resignation he would respond saying he had no information and it was for Dhankhar to tell what happened since it was a matter between him and Prime Minister Modi.

"I replied, 'I think you don't know or have an idea who you're talking to. We're Congress people, and we're not cowards. We are not going to bend; the superpower British couldn't bend us'," Rahul said.
