Over 200 suspected 'illegal migrants' detained in Gurugram; 10 Bangladeshi nationals identified
Additionally, ten Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in India have been identified, and the process of deporting them has been initiated by the Haryana Police.
According to sources, the Gurugram Police launched a verification drive that has been ongoing for the past week. So far, around 300 people have been detained and sent to holding centers set up at community centres in Badshahpur, Sector 10A, Sector 40, and Sector 1 in Manesar.
On Tuesday, the district administration appointed naib tehsildars as in-charges of these centers. People whose documents are found to be valid are being released.
"During the verification process, ten individuals were identified as Bangladeshi nationals. Some Indian documents were also recovered from them, along with Bangladeshi documents, confirming their illegal stay in India,' an official said.
He added that several Bangladeshi and Rohingya individuals had acquired Aadhaar cards and other Indian identity documents by using local addresses in Gurugram, most commonly rented properties.
These ten individuals will soon be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Bangladesh border, via train or bus. The BSF will ensure their return to Bangladesh.
'This process is being conducted to identify illegal immigrants,' said a senior police officer, who dismissed reports that migrant workers from West Bengal and Assam were being targeted.
He confirmed that eight illegal immigrants, suspected to be from Bangladesh, have been identified so far, with more under verification.

Gang involved in digi arrest cases busted; three arrested
Lucknow: Lucknow Police arrested three members of a pan-India cyber fraud gang involved in at least 67 scams across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh worth over Rs 100 crore. The gang was also involved in a recent case in the city where a 73-year-old woman was duped of Rs 56 lakh. Among those arrested are Mohammed Zaid, a law student from a private university, Chitransh Kunwar, a medical equipment businessman from Indiranagar, and Mohan Kumar Rawat of Sugamau. They used fake identities, forged court documents, and a numberless SUV posing as a legal vehicle to avoid suspicion. The kingpin, Sameer Ansari alias Munna Bhaiya, is currently absconding, and efforts are ongoing to trace him, said additional DCP, Cyber Cell, Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar. Kumar said that the gang came under the scanner after Rita Bhasin, a resident of IT Colony in Aishbagh, lodged a complaint on July 18. She was targeted by fraudsters posing as CBI officials who claimed her Aadhaar and mobile number were linked to criminal activity and that an FIR was registered in Andheri East, Mumbai. The scam further escalated when the caller initiated a WhatsApp video call, during which one of the fraudsters, dressed in a police uniform, aggressively threatened her, citing alleged links to a money laundering case and the possibility of jail time. According to the complaint, the victim, already in a state of anxiety, was coerced into isolating herself in a private space where she was forced to remain in view of a video camera. The fraudster even went as far as providing an "Supreme Court bank account" number, assuring her that transferring 99% of her funds would later be "recovered" following an investigation. Throughout the process, the culprits bolstered their deception by sending fake arrest warrants and court orders as further evidence of their fabricated authority. DCP Kumar added that the arrested individuals were found to have been using their vehicle—stripped of its number plate—to travel for money collection activities. "Investigations have so far uncovered 67 cases of similar fraud across different states, with the recovered funds funnelled into bank accounts provided by the accused," he said. Probe into the scam revealed that members of the gang communicated through a private group chat.

Gurugram hit by worker shortage amid police raids
Parts of Gurugram are facing an acute shortage of domestic workers and garbage collectors after scores of migrant labourers, mostly from West Bengal and Assam, fled the city, fearing police action amid a crackdown on undocumented Bangladeshi nationals. The Gurugram police recently intensified efforts to identify and detain illegal immigrants. However, the drive has sparked panic among the city's migrant workforce, many of whom now fear being wrongly targeted. The sudden exodus has disrupted daily life for many residents in upscale localities. 'Nearly 80% of domestic staff and waste collectors have left in the past few days. Garbage collection has been hit. The municipal vehicle comes once every three to four days now,' said Abhey Poonia, senior vice-president of the Gurgaon Citizens' Council, an umbrella body of over 80 RWAs. Residents of Sushant Lok-II and Sector 43 shared similar accounts. A couple living in Regency Park-I said both their help and car cleaner, verified by police, fled to Assam after night raids in their building. 'The ongoing drive scared them. Their landlord also told tenants from Bengal and Assam to vacate,' they said. Migrants from these States typically stay in villages like Chakkarpur, Nathupur, Sikanderpur Ghosi and jhuggi clusters around DLF Phase-I, III and Sector 56. Firdos, a car washer who stays with his wife and two daughters in Carterpuri village, said he, too, is planning to return to West Bengal. 'Many people I know have been detained by the police. One of them was also beaten up,' he said. A contractor managing waste collection in Sector 15 Part-II and its neighbouring areas reported labour fleeing en masse. 'Most of my workers have vanished. It could take over a week for things to settle,' he said. However, Municipal Corporation spokesperson Satyabir Rohilla denied any disruption to garbage collection. Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said the crackdown had been slowed after the RWAs flagged the disruption. 'We are acting only on specific inputs. So far, 10 people have been identified as illegal residents based on documents from the respective District Magistrates. They were found to own land in Bangladesh and were born there,' he said. Mr. Kumar dismissed allegations of harassment or torture, saying proper verification is being done.
