Whatever you do, don't buy a Google Pixel Watch right now

I've spent nearly a year touting the Pixel Watch 3 as the best smartwatch for Wear OS shoppers, so if you're thinking about picking one up, trust me when I say, I get it. Google's smartwatches have made major strides in just a few short years, and with the third generation, the company delivered a more refined, more capable, and more comfortable wearable than either of its predecessors. For most people, it's the best Wear OS watch available. It packs a powerful Wear OS, comes in two case sizes, and features slimmer bezels, longer battery life, and a solid suite of health and fitness tools. However, with Google's next hardware just around the corner, now is not the time to hit checkout.
Would you buy a Pixel Watch 3 or wait for the Pixel Watch 4?

Why buying the Pixel Watch 3 is a bad idea right now

In case you missed it, Google announced its next Made by Google event scheduled for August 20, where the company is expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 4 alongside the new Pixel 10 series phones. While leaks so far suggest the Pixel Watch 4 may be more of a refinement than a reinvention, that refinement could still be worth the wait, especially given how short the wait now is.
Most notably, the Pixel Watch 4 is rumored to include a new side-mounted charging system with faster charging, a more repairable design, and increased battery capacity for both 41mm and 45mm models. Battery life is the bane of the smartwatch arena's existence, and any relevant improvement is always worth paying attention to. The new generation is also expected to retain the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform (the same chip found in the Pixel Watch 3), which, while not new, offers smooth, reliable performance and should run a powerful Wear OS 6 experience. On the design side, rumors point to fresh colorways. That means the new generation may be a bit more stylish out of the box, while still available in two case sizes like the Pixel Watch 3.
Google is also rumored to bring Emergency Satellite Communications to the Watch 4, potentially allowing users to send emergency messages even without cellular or Wi-Fi access. That isn't the only safety upgrade we expect, either. Another feature tipped to arrive is a new Breathing Emergencies alert, which would monitor blood oxygen levels using the SpO₂ sensor and notify users if those levels dip too low during sleep or activity. This potentially life-saving tool elevates the lineup for health-conscious shoppers with relevant concerns.
Unless you absolutely need a new smartwatch right now, waiting for the Pixel Watch 4 will get you a better product or deeper savings.
All in all, for anyone prioritizing usability, longevity, or even aesthetics, it's worth waiting to see what Google officially unveils later this month. Even if your heart isn't set on grabbing the latest and greatest, there is still a benefit to waiting until the Pixel Watch 4 hits the scene. Simply put, Pixel Watch 3 prices are going to drop the minute the new generation arrives. Google almost always discounts previous-gen hardware once a new model exists, and retailers like Amazon and Best Buy follow suit. Waiting just a few more weeks could save you anywhere from $50 to $100.
Patience pays off (even if you stick to older tech)

The Pixel Watch 3 is a solid smartwatch with a lot going for it, but if you grab it right now, you risk ending up with buyer's remorse. At the time of publication, we're less than three weeks away from Google's event and the launch of the Pixel Watch 4. That's a short wait for what could be a much more complete smartwatch. Think longer battery life, faster charging, expanded emergency tools, and a more flexible, repairable design. Meanwhile, the Pixel Watch 3 will still be a solid option in three weeks' time, but you'll be more likely to find it heavily discounted. In other words, waiting is a win-win.

It's not you, it's me. ChatGPT doesn't want to be your therapist or friend

In a case of "it's not you, it's me," the creators of ChatGPT no longer want the chatbot to play the role of therapist or trusted confidant. OpenAI, the company behind the popular bot, announced that it had incorporated some 'changes,' specifically mental health-focused guardrails designed to prevent users from becoming too reliant on the technology, with a focus on people who view ChatGPT as a therapist or friend. The changes come months after reports detailing negative and particularly worrisome user experiences raised concerns about the model's tendency to 'validate doubts, fuel anger, urge impulsive actions, or reinforce negative emotions [and thoughts].' The company confirmed in its most recent blog post that an update made earlier this year made ChatGPT 'noticeably more sycophantic,' or 'too agreeable,' 'sometimes saying what sounded nice instead of what was helpful.' OpenAI announced they have 'rolled back' certain initiatives, including changes in how they use feedback and their approach to measuring 'real-world usefulness over the long term, not just whether you liked the answer in the moment.' 'There have been instances where our 4o model fell short in recognizing signs of delusion or emotional dependency,' OpenAI wrote in an Aug. 4 announcement. 'While rare, we're continuing to improve our models and are developing tools to better detect signs of mental or emotional distress so ChatGPT can respond appropriately and point people to evidence-based resources when needed.' Here's what to know about the recent changes to ChatGPT, including what these mental health guardrails mean for users. ChatGPT integrates 'changes' to help users thrive According to OpenAI, the 'changes' were designed to help ChatGPT users 'thrive.' 'We also know that AI can feel more responsive and personal than prior technologies, especially for vulnerable individuals experiencing mental or emotional distress,' OpenAI said. 'To us, helping you thrive means being there when you're struggling, helping you stay in control of your time, and guiding—not deciding—when you face personal challenges.' The company said its 'working closely' with experts, including physicians, human-computer-interaction (HCI) researchers and clinicians as well as an advisory group, to improve how 'ChatGPT responds in critical moments—for example, when someone shows signs of mental or emotional distress.' Thanks to recent 'optimization,' ChatGPT is now able to: Engage in productive dialogue and provide evidence-based resources when users are showing signs of mental/emotional distress Prompt users to take breaks from lengthy conversations Avoid giving advice on 'high-stakes personal decisions,' instead ask questions/weigh pros and cons to help users come up with a solution on their own 'Our goal to help you thrive won't change. Our approach will keep evolving as we learn from real-world use,' OpenAI said in its blog post. 'We hold ourselves to one test: if someone we love turned to ChatGPT for support, would we feel reassured? Getting to an unequivocal 'yes' is our work.' Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Has A 7-Hour Playlist With One Song On Repeat: 'Helps Me Do Deep Focused Work'

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Many investors and entrepreneurs listen to music throughout their daily routines. Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) CEO Brian Armstrong sometimes listens to the same song over and over, thanks to a Spotify Technology (NYSE:SPOT) playlist. How is COIN trading now? Track it here. What Happened: Armstrong, who once slept in the Coinbase office during the early days, has helped transform the cryptocurrency trading platform company into one of the largest in the sector today. Coinbase is often looked to as a leader in the cryptocurrency sector and a soaring price for Bitcoin over the last year has put companies such as Coinbase in the spotlight again. Armstrong is among the cryptocurrency executives helping push regulations for the sector in the U.S. Trending: The same firms that backed Uber, Venmo and eBay are investing in this pre-IPO company disrupting a $1.8T market — One of the secret weapons for Armstrong may be his listening habits. A leak of Spotify playlists revealed the Coinbase CEO has a playlist that contains the same song 60 times. "From the Spotify leak — I've been exposed for having a 7-hour-long playlist with only one song on it. It helps me do deep focused work, don't ask me why," Armstrong tweeted. The Coinbase CEO appears to have confirmed the playlist exists and is used for his key work. The song used in Armstrong's playlist is "Long Way Home" from music producer and DJ Gareth Emery. The song comes in at 7 minutes 25 second long, making the playlist around 7.5 hours long. Emery took to social media to show his appreciation for Armstrong. "I love this! Back when I wrote it, everyone thought 7 minutes was way too long and it needed cutting down — glad I kept it exactly as it was, and love seeing that it's still out there doing good in the world!" Emery It's Important: The Panama Playlists provides top song picks for playlists made by CEOs and politicians. Some names on the list, such as Armstrong, have confirmed the leak as true. The report has put a spotlight on Spotify's privacy settings that allow users to have their playlists made public for friends and others. Armstrong has 10 public playlists according to the report. Other jams loved by the Coinbase CEO include: "Two Suns In The Sky" by Davi "Greatest Love of All" by Whitney Houston "SOL" by Pryda "Wait For It" by the Original Broadway cast of Hamilton "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper When it comes to listening habits, there could have been more embarrassing song choices and playlist titles than the ones that belong to Armstrong. For those bullish on Bitcoin, perhaps the 7:25 'Long Way Home' can keep some rallies going in the future.
