In Dewan Rakyat today: Toll hike fallout, tariff burdens and senior welfare in the spotlight
According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's official website, Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) will raise the matter during Minister's Question Time, followed by Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) who will ask the Communications Minister to state the MCMC investigation procedures for complaints related to statements on social media.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH-Sungai Petani) will ask the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister to state the objective of the new electricity tariff schedule in achieving the energy transition agenda and long-term sustainability and explain claims that the tariff places a burden on the public.
During the Questions for Oral Answers Session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) will ask the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister regarding the current status of the waqf water programme that was launched during the previous administration and whether the ministry plans to officially include the waqf water programme in the National Water Resources Policy or the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Other questions include the welfare of senior citizens by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak) who will ask the Women, Family and Community Development Minister about measures and efforts to introduce more comprehensive laws to protect senior citizens against neglect and abuse by family members.
After the session ends, the sitting will continue with the tabling of the several bills for second reading, including the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill 2025, the Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill 2025.

EPF mulling two-tier account system to support post-retirement income, says deputy finance minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is proposing a two-tier restructuring of members' retirement savings to provide a more stable and sustainable income stream after retirement, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said today. In a Facebook post, she said the proposed new structure will split future EPF contributions into two components — a Flexible Savings account, which members can withdraw at any time, and an Income Savings account, which will be disbursed periodically until depleted. 'This is a key step towards ensuring members have a structured and reliable income during retirement,' she said. Lim stressed that the proposed changes will not affect the existing withdrawal rights of current EPF members. The new structure will apply only to new members after the implementation date, while existing members may choose to opt in voluntarily. She added that the proposal is still in its early stages and that the government is committed to gathering public feedback before proceeding. 'The Madani government will continue to listen to the people and conduct thorough engagement sessions before any implementation. The aim is clear — to help Malaysians manage their retirement savings in a more structured, fair and sustainable way,' she said. The proposed reform is part of the government's broader push to improve long-term financial security for retirees, amid concerns about premature withdrawals and the adequacy of savings in later years.

Anwar announces RM100,000 for each Felda village to fund community-chosen projects
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an allocation of RM100,000 for each village under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) to implement development projects of their choice. He said the approach of allowing villagers to choose their preferred projects is in line with the MADANI Government's aspiration, which emphasises consultation and community empowerment. 'I have prepared the allocation, with each Felda village receiving RM100,000 to decide which project they want to implement. 'This is not Felda management deciding what project to undertake. Want to buy a tractor? Build a fish pond? Purchase a drone? You decide what you want; I'm providing RM100,000 for each village,' he said when launching the 2025 Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D) at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here.
