The Melbourne Mavericks stunning upset over title challengers New South Wales Swifts has propelled three players into Code Sports' team of the week.
Led by a standout midcourt performance from centre Molly Jovic, the Mavericks launched into wild post-match celebratory scenes on court after downing the Swifts 68-64.
Up against Swifts' star Paige Hadley, Jovic had 32 goal assists and 44 feeds to deliver the ball beautifully to Mavericks' goal shooter Shimona Jok in a player of the match effort.

While there were some strong performances from the league's other leading goal shooters, including Fever's Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Thunderbirds' Romelda Aiken-George, Jok's volume and accuracy with 61 goals from 63 attempts got her the nod at GS this week.
Mavericks' captain Amy Parmenter also slots into the team of the week at wing defence for her game against the Swifts, in which she had four deflections and one intercept, although Giants' Amy Sligar was another strong candidate here.
Alice Teague-Neeld, with 26 goal assists and 40 feeds, delivered a polished performance at wing attack for the Fever, who sit top of the ladder after their win over the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Young gun Georgie Horjus starred in the Adelaide Thunderbirds' win over Melbourne Vixens, providing plenty of drive and spark at goal attack.
Jamaican star Latanya Wilson was equally important in the win for the T-Birds, finishing with six deflections, five gains and one intercept to get the spot at goal defence as the defending champions pushed back into the top four.
There could have been a few candidates for GK, but we're going to give it to a veteran who has continued to surprise everyone since her shock call-up from retirement.
At age 40, Casey Kopua played another key role in the Giants' win over the Firebirds, finishing with three deflections, helping the team to its third win from in its past four games since she joined the team.

Brad Fittler pulls out of race to be next Kangaroos coach

Brad Fittler has pulled out of the race to be the next coach of the Australian Kangaroos. The NRL great had been seen as the favourite to be appointed the Kangaroos coach after Mal Meninga stepped down from the role to become the new coach of the Perth Bears. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. Fittler won two premiership during his career and is one of rugby league's greatest representative players with 31 caps for NSW and 38 appearances for the Kangaroos. He coached the Prime Minister's XIII against PNG last year. But on Monday the 43-year-old said he wouldn't be putting his hand up to be the next Kangaroos coach, opting to focus on his media and commentary roles with Channel 9. 'There was an opportunity there, I'm very grateful for them thinking about me, but I think just in the situation I'm in at the moment, my commitments to Channel 9, I work for the NRL, I'm really enjoying that,' Fittler told 2GB. 'When the role came about and I just started to think about it and start planning that this is maybe for someone else at the moment. 'It was an incredible opportunity, but I also didn't think I could do it justice. That's why I didn't want to commit to it. 'But what an incredible opportunity for someone. I think it's someone with a bit of time. They need to get hotels, grounds, training fields, equipment, everything - it's a big job ahead, but what an awesome experience it is going to be, three Tests over in England.' Fittler said his previous experience of juggling his media duties while being NSW Blues coach played a part in his decision. 'I won't say I won't ever do it again in the future. I always found even when I was commentating while I coached the Origin team, it makes it a bit uncomfortable when you're talking about players and then you have to pick players,' he said. 'I just thought that got a bit muddy at stages and wore on my conscience at times.' Melbourne Storm legend Cameron Smith and former Broncos coach Kevin Walters are now the leading candidates to be appointed Kangaroos coach. The Kangaroos won the last Rugby League World Cup under Meninga and they will have a new coach for the postseason tour of England for the Rugby League Ashes, which is being held for the first time since 2003.

Former NRL star Kevin Proctor breaks silence after sickening KO by social media influencer at RUNIT event in Dubai

Former NRL star Kevin Proctor has no regrets about taking part in RUNIT 02 in Dubai over the weekend, despite suffering a shocking knockout that has gone viral on social media. The 282 NRL game second rower came off second best after getting his head in the wrong position in an exhibition run it straight contest against former lower grade footy player turned social media influencer Jordan Simi. Footage of the hit showed the former Kiwis forward face-plant onto the astroturf with his arms and legs stiffening as medical personnel rush to him. Proctor was cleared by a doctor the morning after the event and is flying back to Australia. In his first comments since the event, Proctor thanked RUNIT organisers and admitted he got the hit wrong. 'Just want to say thank you to everyone that has messaged me to ask if I was alright,' Proctor wrote on Instagram before flying back to Australia. 'I'm all good. 'We all know what we sign up for getting in there. 'It's a contact sport and unfortunately I put my head in the wrong place and came out second best. 'Ya win some ya lose some ... but no hard feelings. Hats off to the bro. It is what it is. 'I got in there had a crack at least. 'I like to thank @ for having me! Still grateful to be apart of it and im sure you guys are only going to get bigger n bigger. 'Congrats to all the winners and organisation for putting on a great event. 'On my way back home now to see my darling, kids and family ... thanks again to everyone for the support.' Simi – Proctor's opponent in the exhibition run it straight challenge – is sitting beside him in the Instagram post, and commented: 'Don't do that again yeahhhh. Got me in trouble with your mumsy. Love brother.' The Dubai event was the third high profile competition RUNIT has staged after similar contests in Melbourne and Auckland in May. The event had a massive prize pool, with first place leaving with $200,000, second place pocketing $50,000 and third place walking away with $25,000. A social media sensation, RUNIT has gone viral with clips of big hits and thunderous collisions spreading like wildfire on Instagram and TikTok. It has attracted a huge amount of criticism as well though, with dozens of CTE experts slamming it. Meanwhile the Warriors, New Zealadn Rugby League, Rugby Australia and the Melbourne Storm hav moved to distance themselves from the craze.

Richmond star Tom Lynch sent directly to AFL Tribunal after strike on Jordon Butts

Richmond forward Tom Lynch is facing a lengthy suspension after being referred directly to the AFL Tribunal for his strike on Adelaide's Jordon Butts. Lynch's second-quarter blow to Butts's head was graded as intentional conduct with severe impact and high contact by the AFL's Match Review Officer, Michael Christian. An early plea is not available to the 32-year-old, who will face the Tribunal on Tuesday night. Lynch was also handed a pair of fines for two separate incidents that took place in Richmond's 68-point loss to Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday. He was offered $3,125 for engaging in a melee/wrestle and $1,500 for striking. The fines can be reduced to $1,875 and $1,000, respectively, if Lynch takes an early plea. Lynch has previously denied suggestions he is overzealous with his on-field aggression, due to only being suspended for a total of two weeks since making his debut in 2011. That total is now likely to be doubled at the very least. Despite his lack of previous suspensions, Lynch has toed the line on numerous occasions throughout his career and is no stranger to a Tribunal hearing. Lynch faced the Tribunal earlier this season in a bid to have a one-match suspension overturned for a high hit on Carlton's Tom De Koning, but was unsuccessful. He was sent directly to the Tribunal in 2023 after a collision with then-Bulldogs defender Alex Keath, an incident that left Keath concussed, but had the rough conduct charge dismissed. The Tribunal also cleared Lynch of striking Essendon's Michael Hurley during a match in 2020. Richmond coach Adem Yze revealed Lynch apologised to his teammates after giving away five free kicks in the first half of the loss to the Crows, and Lynch admitted he was frustrated by the amount of contact Adelaide's defenders had gotten away with. "I was just more frustrated with how he was defending me, I thought," Lynch told Channel 7. "Clearly it [Butts's actions] was within the rules because there were no free kicks awarded to me and I went outside the rules. "I've got to be better."
