Lebanese TV Host Marcel Ghanem: We Shouldn't Be Last to Join the Train of Peace and Prosperity - There's No Honor in That; War with Israel Brought Lebanon Only Destruction

Memri03-06-2025
Lebanese TV host Marcel Ghanem said on MTV (Lebanon) on May 15, 2025, that it is no achievement for Lebanon to be the last country to sign a peace treaty with Israel, calling it yet another sign that the Lebanese prefer to follow rather than lead.
He stated that the wars in the region, in which Lebanese people were used as 'cannon fodder,' are coming to an end, and questioned who would compensate Lebanon for the years wasted by the 'Resistance Axis,' especially if Iran reaches an agreement with the United States.
Ghanem asked whether Lebanon would once again be left behind, or if it might finally have the opportunity to 'join the train of peace and prosperity.' He called on Lebanese decision-makers to acknowledge that the war with Israel has brought no benefit to the Lebanese people.

Lebanese Sunni Islamic Scholar Sheikh Hassan Al-Moraib: If Iran Had Launched Missiles at Israel Directly on October 7 Like It Is Doing Now in Defense of Its Nuclear Program, Gaza and Lebanon Would Not

Lebanese Sunni Islamic scholar Sheikh Hassan Al-Moraib said in a June 20, 2025 interview on Spot Shot (YouTube) that Iran did not defend its proxies. He explained that if Iran had launched missiles directly at Israel on October 7, Gaza and Lebanon likely would not have been destroyed. However, Al-Moraib said, Iran allowed Hizbullah, its 'long arm,' to be killed, its most important arm was chopped off, and it did not act. He added that Iran didn't even avenge Nasrallah. In contrast, Al-Moraib said, Iran is now defending itself and its nuclear program by launching missiles at Israel. Therefore, it should not pretend to be doing Lebanon any favors or sell illusions about defending Jerusalem and Palestine. He continued by saying that Sunnis are Iran's greatest enemies, and Sunni lives, women, and children are fair game to Iran. Moraib added that he reason for this is the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, because Iran sees Sunnis as the killers of Hussein, Prophet Muhammad's grandson.

Hezbollah Chief: We can defeat Israel

Shafaq News – Beirut Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem declared Friday that the group is fully capable of confronting and defeating Israel, asserting that the recent ceasefire marks a new stage defined by the responsibility of the Lebanese state. Qassem said Hezbollah deemed the support of Gaza as 'a necessary and rightful duty,' emphasizing that the group remained steadfast and continued to strike Israel until the ceasefire was reached. He also warned against misjudging Hezbollah's resolve, stating, 'Do you think we will remain silent forever? That's not true. We are a people who say 'never to humiliation'—and you have tested us.' The ongoing ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, brokered in November 2024, was intended to end months of cross-border hostilities. Under the agreement, Israeli forces were to withdraw from southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah fighters were to redeploy north of the Litani River. The Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were tasked with securing the area. However, Lebanese authorities report that Israel has violated the ceasefire more than 3,000 times since its inception on November 27. These violations include airstrikes, artillery shelling, airspace intrusions by drones, and ground incursions along the border. Despite international monitoring, Israel has maintained five outposts in Lebanese territory beyond the withdrawal deadlines.
