NewMarket Corporation Reports Second Quarter and First Half 2025 Results
Net income for the second quarter of 2025 was $111.2 million, or $11.84 per share, compared to net income of $111.6 million, or $11.63 per share, for the same period last year. For the first half of 2025, net income was $237.2 million, or $25.11 per share, compared to $219.4 million, or $22.87 per share, for the same period in 2024.
Petroleum additives sales for the second quarter of 2025 were $653.9 million, compared to $669.8 million for the same period in 2024. Petroleum additives operating profit for the second quarter of 2025 was $139.8 million, compared to $147.8 million for the second quarter of 2024. The decrease in petroleum additives operating profit was primarily driven by a 2.5% decline in shipments between quarterly periods and an increase in technology investments, slightly offset by favorable product mix. The decline in shipments was mainly driven by lubricant additives shipments, partially offset by a slight increase in fuel additives shipments.
Petroleum additives sales were $1.3 billion for the first half of 2025 and the first half of 2024. Petroleum additives operating profit for the first half of 2025 was $281.9 million, compared to $298.7 million in the same period last year. The drivers for the decrease in operating profit between these periods were consistent with those affecting the second quarter comparison discussed above. Shipments decreased 4.9% when comparing the first half of 2025 with the same period in 2024, with decreases in both lubricant additives and fuel additives shipments.
Specialty materials sales were $42.0 million for the second quarter of 2025, compared to $38.0 million for the second quarter of 2024. Specialty materials operating profit was $10.5 million for the second quarter of 2025, compared to operating profit of $5.0 million for the second quarter of 2024. The increase in specialty materials operating profit was primarily driven by increased volumes. As previously stated, we will see substantial variation in quarterly results for the specialty materials segment on an ongoing basis due to the nature of its business.
Specialty materials sales were $95.8 million for the first half of 2025, compared to $55.1 million for the first half of 2024. Specialty materials operating profit for the first half of 2025 was $33.7 million, compared to slightly above breakeven in the same period last year. Specialty materials sales and operating profit for the first half of 2024 reflect financial results since the acquisition of American Pacific Corporation (AMPAC) on January 16, 2024.
Our operations generated solid cash flows during the first half of 2025. We repurchased common stock for $77.2 million, including $20.2 million of repurchases in the second quarter, paid dividends of $51.9 million, and funded capital expenditures of $29.3 million in the first half of 2025. Additionally, we reduced our Net Debt by $122.2 million during the first half of 2025, driving our Net Debt to EBITDA ratio down to 1.0 as of June 30, 2025.
We are pleased with the strong performance of our business during the first half of 2025 and continue to see favorable results from our ongoing efficiency initiatives. Investing in technology to meet customer needs, enhancing our operational efficiency, and improving our portfolio profitability will remain priorities throughout 2025.
We continue to monitor the uncertain macroeconomic environment, particularly the changes in international trade relations and tariffs, and assess the potential impacts to our operations. Our dedicated team makes decisions to promote long-term value for our shareholders and customers, and remains focused on our long-term objectives. We believe the fundamentals of how we run our business - a long-term view, safety-first culture, customer-focused solutions, technology-driven product offerings, and world-class supply chain capability - will continue to be beneficial for all our stakeholders.
Sincerely,
Thomas E. Gottwald

Why Fair Isaac Fell Today
Key Points Fair Isaac beat expectations in the second quarter for revenue and earnings. The company also raised earnings guidance, but kept its revenue guidance flat. Questions over the sustainability of today's strong growth and a high valuation nevertheless caused a sell-off. 10 stocks we like better than Fair Isaac › Shares of Fair Isaac (NYSE: FICO) fell 9.3% on Thursday as of 2:10 p.m. ET. The financial giant, which administers the well-known FICO credit score and related credit scoring analytics software, reported earnings last night. While results on the surface showed a beat, the stock fell anyway. That may be because investors are aware FICO is benefiting from large price increases taken within the past year that might not recur. A beat, no raise, and questions about next year In the second quarter, Fair Isaac showed 19.8% revenue growth to $536.4 million, with adjusted non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) earnings per share growth of 37.1% to $8.57. FICO's business is divided between the core Scores segment, which makes up about 60% of the business, and the newer Software segment, which makes up about 40% of the business. Scores was up 34%, while the Software segment was up 3%. FICO management also raised adjusted earnings per share guidance for the year to $29.15, from $28.58 prior. So, why didn't the stock move higher in response to a "beat"? It's likely a couple of things. First, while FICO raised earnings guidance, it did not raise revenue guidance, which is odd after beating expectations for the quarter. Second, the Scores segment is benefiting from a massive price increase that happened last November. On Nov. 6, FICO raised the price of a FICO score on borrowers for mortgage originations by over 41%, from $3.50 to $4.95. Mortgages of course don't encompass all FICO score activity, but it is a significant portion of the Scores business. So in that light, there are questions as to how sustainable that 34% Scores growth rate is. FICO is expensive if its pricing power is constrained While a FICO score is still a very small part of the overall costs of mortgages and homebuying, the company came under fire earlier this year from current Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) director Bill Pulte regarding those price hikes and other matters relating to GSE agency-backed mortgages. So, it remains to be seen if FICO can continue with high prices hikes going forward. That means that with the stock trading at 48 times this year's adjusted earnings estimates, investors may want to wait and see how the company's relationship with the current Trump administration and FHFA works out. Why Sun Communities Stock Burned So Brightly Today
Key Points Investors liked what they saw about the REIT's second quarter. They were surely quite pleased about its raised FFO guidance. 10 stocks we like better than Sun Communities › Investors were very warm to Sun Communities (NYSE: SUI) on Thursday. After the veteran real estate investment trust (REIT) published an estimates-trouncing quarter following Wednesday's market close, they piled into the stock to boost it to an over 6% price gain on the day. This crushed the S&P 500 index, which fell to close marginally lower by 0.1%. Sunny skies in the second quarter For its second quarter, Sun Communities' revenue rose by almost 5% year over year to hit $623.5 million. Thanks to a more than $1.4 billion gain on the sale of its Safe Harbor Marinas superyacht and marina servicing business to an affiliate of financial services giant Blackstone, the REIT's net income was a bit above $1.3 billion ($10.02 per share) against the year-ago profit of $58 million. Core, or non-GAAP (adjusted), funds from operations (FFO), considered a truer metric of a REIT's profitability, actually fell across that one-year stretch. In the second quarter it dipped to slightly under $232 million ($1.36 per share) versus the same period of 2024's $240 million. Sun Communities said that, with the Safe Harbor sale, it is repositioning itself as a pure-play landlord of manufactured housing and recreational vehicle (RV) communities. This shift will be overseen by incoming CEO Charles Young, who was tapped to succeed the long-serving Gary Shiffman beginning this October. Guidance adjustments Sun Communities also raised its core guidance, which was surely a factor behind the very bullish investor reaction to the earnings release. Management now believes the line item will amount to $6.51 to $6.67 for the entirety of 2025, up from the previous guidance range of $6.43 to $6.63. On the flip side, the company reduced its annual per-share earnings guidance, forecasting it will net a profit of $11.34 to $11.50. That's below the preceding range of $12.62 to $12.82. Should you invest $1,000 in Sun Communities right now? Schlumberger Limited (SLB)'s A Great Company Doing Terribly, Says Jim Cramer
We recently published . Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB), like its peer Halliburton, hasn't performed well on the stock market in 2025. The shares have lost 11% year-to-date as the firm is yet to recover from its post-Liberation Day tariff announcement. Yet, operationally, Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) seems to be recovering as its second-quarter earnings report beat analyst revenue and EPS estimates. Cramer's previous comments about the firm have pointed to the discrepancy between the firm's performance and that of Baker Hughes. This time, he reiterated that Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) is performing poorly: 'Because look at Haliburton and look at Schlumberger. Great companies. SLB. They are doing so terribly.' Pixabay/Public Domain Cramer's previous remarks about Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) maintained that the firm was performing poorly: 'But not as many as you would think. I mean, look, oil and gas, you would think that would be terrible with oil in the 60s, they're doing pretty well. Well, Schlumberger [has] a hard time. . .But then, out of nowhere, you get this LNG deal. And you say, wow, I mean there's an industry that's got customers for the rest of its duration.' While we acknowledge the potential of SLB as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
