This means India has now joined the elite club of nations that possess advanced Directed-Energy Weapon (DEW) systems.
The trial was carried at the National Open Air Range, Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. The system was developed by DRDO's Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS), Hyderabad along with other labs, academic institutions and Indian industries.

This air defense system was designed to intercept ballistic missiles, advanced drones, cruise missiles and fighter aircraft up to the fourth generation. Major Indian defense companies including Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) were involved in the production of essential parts of this system. In collaboration with Israel, India has developed an advanced air defense system, which has also proved its capability by shooting down the Pakistani ballistic missile Fateh-2 in the air. DRDO developed a special dual-pulse rocket motor for the Barak air defense system which gives the missile fired from this air defense system the ability to maintain its speed and change direction suddenly until it hits the target. Israel also got a huge defense market like India for this missile defense system. Why is Israel selling this system unilaterally under a different name? Despite this, Israel is selling this system unilaterally under the name 'Barak MX' for which it has signed a deal with Azerbaijan for 12 Barak air defense systems. In 2022, Israel had signed a deal worth $ 500 million with Morocco. The main point of contention is that the Barak air defense systems that Israel is selling do not have dual-pulse rocket motors, which have been developed by DRDO. Reportedly, Israel is talking to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about the sale of Barak defense systems. Is Israel trying to bypass India? According to by using its propulsion system in the export model of the Barak Defense System, Israel is bypassing the help that India has provided at the technology level. Due to this, India is not getting any benefit in the global defense market. Apart from this, the situation is also not clear regarding the intellectual property and data rights related to this project, which raises questions on India's technical and economic participation. Lately though, the Detroit-based 29-year-old analyst at an auto company is reading corporate filings and tracking where the shares of companies trade relative to their book value. 'I'm looking for companies that are cheap," said Goodman, gushing over two of his recent picks: Photronics, a supplier for chip makers, and consumer-lender Medallion Financial. No one will ever confuse Medallion for one of the so-called Magnificent Seven tech companies. But after months of trading in response to the latest economic and geopolitical headlines, the mosaic of stocks that comprise the market are beginning to flash their differences. And individual investors like Goodman are taking note, eschewing megacap tech stocks for undervalued, and overlooked, potential gems. Yes, investors and analysts say, it is fun—and possibly rewarding—to pick stocks again. 'It's been this macro story, and most stocks are up having nothing to do with company management or earnings or sales," said Michael Kantrowitz, chief investment strategist at Piper Sandler. 'It has not been a stock picker's market, and I think it will be going forward." Sky-high valuations on the market's tech heavyweights have left investors in search of less-expensive alternatives. Stocks in the benchmark S&P 500 index are moving less in lockstep now than at any point since February, when the market was still rallying on the results of the 2024 presidential election. Sam Yocum, 57, watched the rally in big tech stocks and began to grow skeptical that the artificial-intelligence boom that underpinned their rise was fully justified. 'It's getting this kind of '90s, dot-com bubble feel to it," said Yocum, a California-based private-equity executive. 'That being said, this is a massively, massively expensive market," said Lisa Shalett, chief investment officer at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Traders are watching for other signs of market froth as well, including speculation in meme stocks and a cryptocurrency frenzy that has driven the price of bitcoin to records. Some analysts warn that the recent wave of optimism stands at odds with a number of unresolved risks on the horizon in the latter half of 2025: The specifics of tariff policy aren't yet finalized, and the Trump administration's self-imposed Aug. 1 deadline for striking deals looms. There are also early signs that U.S. policies are lifting the inflation rate, which could prevent the Federal Reserve from making much-anticipated interest-rate cuts later this year. 'Stocks are not showing any fear about tariffs, they're not showing any fear about policy uncertainty related to stability or instability in Washington, they're not showing fear any longer about inflation," Shalett said. 'This is a market that's pricing [in] Goldilocks." Picking the 'right" stocks might not help investors avoid losses should the market endure a broad selloff. And hunting for bargains remains less popular than chasing the fastest-growing market names: Investors have added $25 billion more than they have pulled from value-oriented stock exchange-traded funds so far this year, according to Morningstar Direct data, compared with about $47 billion of net inflows into growth ETFs. But some investors are done chasing the crowd. Angel Diaz, a quality systems auditor in Lubbock, Texas, has been trimming his holdings in the Magnificent Seven companies since the start of the year, though they once made up more than half of his portfolio. Instead the 64-year-old said he is opting for less popular names such as AES, a utility, and Two Harbors Investment, a real-estate investment company he recently purchased for its quarterly dividend. 'I don't want to be dependent on the Mag Seven performing as they have in the past," Diaz said, adding that stability has become more important to him than growth as he nears retirement. 'I'll keep myself invested in the market, but at the same time take a lower-risk approach with less volatility." It's a good time to be a stock picker, he said, 'if you're doing your research." The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has invited the country's vaccine manufacturers to partner with it to launch and sell a malaria vaccine, AdFalciVax, that its Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneshwar, has developed. In this context, let's know about this new vaccine and malaria. 1. AdFalciVax is a chimeric recombinant vaccine — a type of vaccine that uses different parts of the genes of a pathogen (in this case, Plasmodium) to create target proteins that trigger an immune response after being injected. 2. AdFalciVax uses two types of target proteins to prevent the spread of infection in two different ways. ↪ It uses the circumsporozoite protein (CSP) to prevent infection in the person who has been immunised. The CSP is produced during the sporozoite stage (when a parasite can infect a new host) and the liver stage (when a parasite enters liver cells, multiplies, and then infects red blood cells) of the parasite. 'Any immune response generated against these stages protects the immunised person from getting the infection.' Subhash Singh, project manager for development of the vaccine at the ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar told The Indian Express. ↪ The vaccine also uses the Pro6C protein, a fusion of parts of two different proteins — Pfs230 and Pfs48/45 — produced by Plasmodium falciparum. This protein prevents the spread of infection in the community. 3. Researchers have found that AdFalciVax provided more than 90% protection against infection in mice. The candidate vaccine has yet to undergo rigorous human trials, and the preliminary results have been obtained only through testing on animals. 4. The ICMR wants to partner with a company that can further develop its candidate vaccine, carry out human clinical trials, and scale up for commercial production. Although the ICMR will share the technology of developing AdFalciVax with the chosen company, it will continue to hold the intellectual property rights. Any intellectual property rights generated during the collaboration will be held jointly by the ICMR and the company. 5. Notably, AdFalciVax mainly targets two parts of Plasmodium falciparum, a pathogen that is the most common source of malaria in humans. In India, however, the disease is caused by Plasmodium vivax against which AdFalciVax is ineffective. To combat malaria, scientists have been working to develop a vaccine for decades but with limited success. Recently, two vaccines—RTS,S and R21—were approved for use, but their efficacy, at 75%, is quite low. That's why the announcement about ICMR's candidate vaccine has given new hope in the fight against the disease. World Malaria Day is observed every year on 25th April by the World Health Organisation to raise awareness and drive action against malaria. The theme for World Malaria Day 2025 is 'Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.' 1. Having claimed millions of lives, malaria has been one of the deadliest diseases in human history. Currently, the disease kills about four lakh people annually, according to World Health Organization (WHO) figures. 2. Malaria is a parasitic infection transmitted by mosquitoes, typically causing symptoms such as fever, chills, night sweats, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. In some cases, it can lead to severe complications such as seizures, fluid in the lungs, organ damage, and death. 3. It is most endemic in Africa — Nigeria, Congo, Tanzania, Mozambique, Niger, and Burkina Faso together account for more than half the yearly deaths. 1. India has demonstrated significant progress in reducing malaria cases and associated mortality in the country's high-endemic states, according to the findings of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) 'World Malaria Report 2024′. 2. 'India exited the HBHI [high-burden to high-impact] group officially in 2024 due to significant progress in reducing the malaria incidence and mortality observed in its high-endemic states,' the report observed. 3.'Nationwide, the number of estimated malaria cases in India decreased from 6.4 million in 2017 (the year before the HBHI's introduction) to 2 million cases in 2023 (69 per cent decrease). Similarly, the estimated malaria deaths decreased from 11,100 to 3,500 (68 per cent decrease) during the same period,' it said. 4. The HBHI refers to a targeted WHO initiative aimed at the most acutely malaria-impacted regions of the world, including several countries in Africa. Widespread resistance of malarial parasite to drugs like chloroquine has prompted attempts to develop a malarial vaccine to combat malaria.
