Six uncapped players named in South Africa ODI squad
An initial 12-man selection has been named to take on New Zealand in Lahore next Monday in South Africa's first game of the series.
Additional players will be named once player availability becomes clearer as South Africa's showcase Twenty20 competition concludes this week.
Temba Bavuma will lead the side with all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana being named in the squad for a second time after a first call-up against India two years ago.
The uncapped players are batsmen Matthew Breetzke and Meeka-eel Prince, spinner Senuran Muthusamy and the fast bowling duo of Gideon Peters and Eathan Bosch.
Gerald Coetzee has recovered from a left hamstring strain and is also included after being forced to sit out the test series against Pakistan last month and then the SA20 tournament.
Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen miss the first match but will be available for the second ODI against Pakistan in Karachi on Feb. 12.
The tri-series is a warm up ahead of the Champions Trophy, which starts on Feb. 19 and is being co-hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
South African ODI regulars Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, and Rassie van der Dussen will not take part in the tri-series but have already been named in the squad for the Champions Trophy.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - The NFL and Disney's (DIS.N), opens new tab ESPN have reached a deal, potentially worth billions, placing many of the league's media holdings with the sports network in exchange for equity in ESPN, the Athletic reported on Friday. ESPN is expected to have access to RedZone, NFL Network, seven more regular-season games and the NFL's fantasy football business, the report said, citing sources briefed on the agreement. The news of the deal comes as Disney is set to launch its new streaming service, named ESPN, this fall, providing access to ESPN networks, including professional and college football and basketball games. The new service will cost $29.99 per month and is part of the media company's effort to tap sports fans who have never subscribed to traditional television.

South Africa want promising batsmen to show potential on international stage
CAPE TOWN, Aug 1 (Reuters) - South Africa's Twenty20 captain Aiden Markram wants his team's promising young batsman to use the opportunity of limited overs tours to Australia and England over the next eight weeks to develop their careers and display their international potential. South Africa have high hopes for powerful teenage slogger Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis, the prolific 22-year-old run scorer who first competed in the Indian Premier League three years ago, as they continue preparations for next year's T20 World Cup. "The last thing you want to do is to clip their wings. You sort of want to let them fly and let them do their thing,' Markram told a virtual press conference on Friday as South Africa readied to depart for Australia, where they play three T20 internationals in Darwin and Cairns later this month. "I think we've seen on various stages around the world now that they are proper X-factor players and that they have taken to international cricket quite easily,' he added. "So, I don't know if I have too much advice for them, besides the fact that they must keep taking the game on and not be scared of disappointments or failures. 'It's been great to see their progress. They're going to play a massive role moving forward in cricket in South Africa and that's the thing that we're quite excited about,' Markram added. Brevis, a regular in T20 leagues around the world, debuted for South Africa's T20 side against Australia two years ago while Pretorius, 19, debuted in last month's tri series against New Zealand and hosts Zimbabwe, scoring 51 in the final in Harare last weekend. The pair are also in the squad to take on Australia in three One Day Internationals after the T20 series. South Africa then head to England early next month for three ODIs and three T20s. "For us as a team it'll be about fine tuning a lot of things and preparing for that T20 World Cup, so a great opportunity in Australia and then followed by England and if we can get closer towards another trophy, that'll be good," Markram told reporters. South Africa were runners-up at the last T20 World Cup in the West Indies one year ago and Markram was the hero of their World Test Championship win over Australia in June. SYDNEY, Aug 1 (Reuters) - The British & Irish Lions will empty the tank in search of the 80 minute performance they have been seeking throughout the tour when they face the Wallabies in their 10th match in Australia, assistant coach John Dalziel said on Friday. The test series is already sewn up with Lions victories in Brisbane and Melbourne but going into Saturday's tour finale at Sydney's Stadium Australia, the tourists still feel they have not played their best rugby. Scotland forwards coach Dalziel said the squad were naturally tired after two months on the road but also determined to bid farewell to Australia with a 10th win and an 80-minute performance. "Well for us it's the only way to end this now, isn't it?" he told reporters at Stadium Australia. "We don't want anything to derail it. We know it's going to be incredibly hard work. It'll be more wet playing here. So we have just got to find that energy and go again and get that performance that we all want. "I think that's the key to it – there's still a performance in us.
