Wojciech Szczesny has agreed a two-year contract extension with Barcelona which will keep him at the Camp Nou until 2027.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper has impressed since he came out of retirement to stand in for the injured Marc ter Stegen at the start of last season.
In 30 appearances, the 35-year-old kept 14 clean sheets and was never on the losing side in La Liga as champions Barça finished four points clear of rivals Real Madrid.
On Szczesny's response to ending his retirement in style, Barcelona said on their website on Monday: 'The Pole responded by showing he is still one of the best goalkeepers in European football.
'The Polish player's experience and maturity was a great help for coach Hansi Flick in a young and inexperienced Barca squad.'
With the domestic treble at Barca last season, Szczesny has now claimed 14 trophies during his career - with more than 500 appearances.

Alcaraz sweeps aside last British hope Norrie

PA Media/DPA London British singles hopes at Wimbledon ended for another year with a straight-sets loss for Cameron Norrie against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals. Norrie had hoped to become just the third home player in the open era to defeat a men's title holder at Wimbledon after Roger Taylor and Tim Henman but succumbed to a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 defeat in just an hour and 39 minutes. It has nevertheless been an excellent fortnight for the 29-year-old, who almost dropped out of the top 100 earlier this season three years after reaching the semi-finals here and has shown he can be a factor again. Alcaraz, meanwhile, will take on Taylor Fritz in the last four on Friday as he continues his bid to make it three titles in a row at the All England Club. World No. 5, Fritz overcame a medical time-out to defeat Russian 17th seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4). After winning a 23rd successive match, the five-time grand slam winner Alcaraz said: 'I am really happy. To be able to play another semi-final here at Wimbledon is really special.' Norrie, who got into a heated discussion with his previous opponent Nicolas Jarry over his vocal celebrations, let out a big cry of 'come on' after holding serve in the opening game, and promptly created four break points in the second. But Alcaraz saved them all. A double fault gave the second seed a break for 2-1, and he made it four games in a row with a forehand pass hooked improbably on to the baseline. Alcaraz was enjoying himself and it took the Spaniard just 28 minutes to wrap up the first set. Norrie, who had won two of his last three meetings with Alcaraz, was playing against someone with more clubs in his bag, and another precision drop shot from the 22-year-old gave him a third break of the match in the third game of the second set. Norrie fought hard to hold on to his serve in the early stages of the third set, and then saved a match point at 2-5, but it was simply delaying the inevitable.

Tchouameni urges Madrid to show quality against PSG

PAMedia/DPA London Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni says Real Madrid are not ready to return home from the Club World Cup just yet. The France international, who joined Madrid from Monaco during the summer of 2022, will rub shoulders with some familiar faces when they go head-to-head with Champions League winners Paris St Germain in the semi-finals at the MetLife Stadium in New York on Wednesday evening. PSG are chasing a famous quadruple having already claimed a domestic double and the European crown, but Tchouameni is determined that it will be they rather than the Spanish side, who will be heading home prematurely. He told RM Play: 'We're delighted to be in the semi-finals, but we want more. We have to win the game against PSG and we're going to give our all, fight to win to stay in the competition. 'PSG are a good team with a lot of players I know personally. They're a top team in world football, recently winning the Champions League. 'It's going to be a difficult game, but we have the quality to win it and we have to show that.' Xabi Alonso's men will have to cope without summer signing Dean Huijsen, who is suspended after being sent off during a chaotic conclusion to Saturday night's 3-2 quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund. The former Madrid and Liverpool midfielder's reign is still in its infancy after he replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the helm just weeks before the competition got under way. However, Tchouameni revealed Alonso is gradually making his presence felt. He said: 'Day by day, we understand more and more what the coach and his staff want. We're improving on and off the pitch in every game. We have to keep working and improving.' If Alonso has a decision to make over Huijsen's replacement, opposite number Luis Enrique has holes to plug in his team and on the bench. Central defender Willian Pacho and substitute Lucas Hernandez were both dismissed in an eventful ending to PSG's 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the last eight. Striker Ousmane Dembele, who left Barcelona for Paris two summers ago, scored the second goal after coming off the bench as he works his way back to full fitness after injury at the end of what has been a remarkable season. He told the club's YouTube channel: 'This is what I wanted. I signed for PSG to have moments like this. 'This year has been exceptional, both personally and collectively, so it's magnificent.'

Pogacar celebrates 100th professional victory on Tour de France stage four

PA Media/dpa London Tadej Pogacar claimed the 100th victory of his professional career to move level on time with Mathieu van der Poel in the yellow jersey on a thrilling stage four of the Tour de France in Rouen. In the hometown of the Tour's first five-time winner Jacques Anquetil, Pogacar took a stride to what he hopes will be his fourth title with a show of strength on another classics-style stage, beating Van der Poel and his great rival Jonas Vingegaard in an uphill sprint. It was Pogacar's 18th career Tour stage win and one that put him on the same time as Van der Poel - who retains yellow on countback - with Vingegaard eight seconds back going into Wednesday's time trial. Pogacar, 26, became the fourth youngest rider to reach 100 professional wins. Oscar Onley, the 22-year-old Scot riding his second Tour, was fourth on the stage as he was able to hang with an elite group of riders on a lumpy finish to the stage from Amiens, with all five categorised climbs in the last 50 of the 174 kilometres. Lenny Martinez, the last survivor of a four-man breakaway, was collected with around 20km left as Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates-XRG squad and Vingegaard's Visma-Lease A Bike team came to the fore, quickly making a major selection in the peloton as few could keep with the pace. Pogacar tried to attack on the steepest section of the last categorized climb, where gradients hit 15% on the Rampe Saint-Hilaire, briefly distancing Vingegaard, who was the only man who could follow before getting back onto his rival's wheel by the summit. Remco Evenepoel dragged a handful of riders back across to the leading pair on the descent into Rouen, Van der Poel among them, but there would be no beating the world champion to victory. 'I think today I got very, very close to the limit,' Pogacar said. 'I tried with an attack on the last climb and then Jonas followed me and everything came together. 'Joao (Almeida) did such an amazing job to lead me out until the very end, even if people were attacking so I'm super happy and proud of the team today, it's amazing and I'm just without words, it's such a nice victory. 'To win at the Tour is incredible, to do it in this jersey even more so and to win 100 victories is will see, tomorrow is the real test. Already to win a stage in this jersey for me it's enough, I just go on enjoying this race. Of course we aim for yellow and we will see.' Evenepoel conceded another three seconds to Pogacar and Vingegaard, leaving him 58 seconds off yellow, while Primoz Roglic lost 32 seconds to fall one minute 27 seconds down. Onley's performance was enough to lift the Team Picnic-PostNL rider up to seventh overall, 55 seconds down. 'It was pretty cool,' Onley said of being in the mix. 'It doesn't get much bigger than this in terms of races and competitors so it's nice to prove to myself that I can be there right at the top.'
