Florida A&M football will play a game in Atlanta for the third consecutive season.
Over the weekend at the FAMU National Alumni Association Convention in Frisco, Texas, FAMU's Vice President and Director of Athletics Angela Suggs announced that the Rattlers will face the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The Week 6 Southwestern Athletic Conference football game between the Rattlers and the Delta Devils was initially scheduled to be played at MVSU's Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena, Mississippi.
'They decided they were coming to FAMU, Georgia ― also known as Atlanta,' Suggs said at the FAMU NAA Convention's AD's Breakfast on Friday, May 30.
'So once October 4, we won't be in Itta Bena, Mississippi. We will play Mississippi Valley State University in the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.'
FAMU has a large contingent of graduates in Atlanta and holds one of the largest alumni chapters for the HBCU.

The Rattlers played in Atlanta in 2024 for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge, squeaking a 24-23 victory over the Norfolk State Spartans at Center Parc Stadium, formerly the Atlanta Braves' Turner Field. In 2023, FAMU football won its first-ever Celebration Bowl 30-26 over the Howard Bison to secure its 16th Black College National Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Rattlers will look to avenge last season's 24-21 loss versus the Delta Devils, a shortfall that ended its 23-game home winning streak at Bragg Memorial Stadium, which spanned over five years. It was MVSU's lone victory last year.
FAMU, led by second-year head coach James Colzie III, returns from a 7-5 season in 2024. MVSU, fresh off a 1-11 showing, has a first-year head coach in Terrell Buckley. Both coaches played college football as cornerbacks for Florida State University, with Buckley being there from 1989 to 1991 and Colzie spending his spending 1993 to 1996 on the Seminoles roster.

Former Texas A&M QB discusses nearly traumatic leg injury, and his road back to the field

Former Texas A&M quarterback Max Johnson, who transferred to College Station after two seasons with LSU before the 2022 season, left the program, gaining immense respect from the Aggie fan base who watched him play through several injuries, including broken ribs at the end of the 2023 campaign. Johnson, who is the son of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brad Johnson, has never shied away from competition, choosing Texas A&M over a host of programs that would have started him right away, instead of playing behind former A&M QBs Haynes King and Conner Weigman to start his Aggie career. However, both players dealt with injury issues, vaulting Johnson into the starting lineup. In two seasons at Texas A&M, Johnson appeared in 12 games, while his best string of performances came during the 2023 season, throwing for 1,452 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions, while, as I stated above, played with broken ribs during the close road close to Ole Miss, which is likely resulted in former head coach Jimbo Fisher's dismissal. With Conner Weigman returning, paired with current starting quarterback Marcel Reed behind him, Johnson once again entered the transfer portal, choosing North Carolina as his final collegiate destination. However, during the Tar Heels' opening game of the 2024 season against Minnesota, Johnson's brutal leg injury ended his year before it truly began. After a video showed the senior signal caller looking healthy during one of his many throwing sessions this offseason, Johnson recently spoke to the media during the first week of North Carolina's preseason, revealing that his road back to health was more complicated than all of us had assumed. According to journalist Chris Mason, Johnson had five surgeries after his leg injury, which occurred back on August 29, 2024. 'There was a point in time where I thought I was going to lose my leg.' Max Johnson's toughness has never been in doubt, and this further proves that first-year North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick is in good hands at the position, especially from a leadership perspective. North Carolina will open the 2025 season at home against TCU on Monday, September 1. Patriots cut former Texas A&M star running back in roster move

Football season is right around the corner, and NFL teams are already reshuffling their rosters. Unfortunately for one former Texas A&M running back, he's back on the market just months after signing a new deal. On Friday evening, the New England Patriots released veteran backup Trayveon Williams, who had signed with the team in May. This kind of roster churn is common in the NFL, but the timing offers Williams a shot at landing elsewhere before training camps are in full swing. Williams was drafted in the sixth round by the Cincinnati Bengals following a standout junior season at A&M, where he earned First-Team All-SEC and Second-Team All-American honors. He spent six seasons with the Bengals, primarily contributing on special teams. When his playing time began to decrease, he made the move to New England this summer. Running back roles have evolved over the past few decades, with most teams now carrying three backs, two of whom must also contribute on special teams. Williams, despite being in the latter stages of his career, has remained roster-relevant thanks to his versatility and willingness to play special teams. Texas A&M senior kicker named to Lou Groza Award watch list

One of Texas A&M's most significant issues under former head coach Jimbo Fisher was the program's lack of special teams success, mainly due to Fisher's choice never to hire a special teams coach. After his dismissal, second-year head coach Mike Elko brought in veteran Patrick Dougherty, who, during his first season at the helm, led the Aggies to a top-35 finish in yards per punt (43.9), field goal percentage (83.3), and field goals (20). Outside of star punter Tyler White, the return of senior kicker Randy Bond was critical for this unit to continue its successful run, as the veteran finished the 2024 season with his highest career field goal percentage (83.3%), finishing 20-24, a perfect 46-46 on extra points, including 7-9 from 40-49-yards, while making a 55-yard field goal. On Friday, it was revealed that Bond was named to the 2025 Lou Groza Award preseason watch list. Unsurprisingly, Bond is considered one of the most dependable kickers in the country and could be the reason Texas A&M escapes a road game or two this season. Bond has continued to improve in every aspect of his kicking game, and, with one more solid season, he has a chance to make an NFL roster this time next year.
