Public Prosecution reveals violations resulting in death of Egyptian Karate Federation player
The referral order charged the officials with negligence resulting in the death of a player participating in the Republic Championship.
Prosecution investigations revealed that the defendants violated the Minister of Youth and Sports' decision requiring the provision of qualified medical personnel during the Republic Championship events, as they allowed emergency care tasks to be assigned to individuals without professional licenses.
Investigations also revealed that the first defendant worked in obstetrics and gynecology, a specialty unsuitable for medical supervision of combat tournaments.
The defendants also failed to provide an automatic defibrillator at the tournament venue and contracted with an unlicensed medical services company, violating the Egyptian Karate Federation's instructions.
In light of the findings of the investigations, the Public Prosecution issued several recommendations, including:
Full compliance with the provisions of Ministerial Resolution #1642 of 2024, as one of the basic requirements for holding sports tournaments, particularly with regard to reviewing each player's medical file to ensure that there is no medical history that would prevent them from participating, and providing a specialist doctor for critical cases and intensive care in each tournament, especially combat sports and athletics tournaments. Verify the licenses of ambulance companies issued by the Egyptian Ambulance Authority before contracting with them, in accordance with Minister of Health and Population Resolution #246 of 2019, to ensure their compliance with approved medical requirements. Reviewing the qualifications of ambulance crews before the start of tournaments and ensuring they have received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training courses from the Ambulance Authority. The heads of sports federations' medical committees must be selected based on their medical competencies, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Ben Sulayem says Japan and the FIA are united in driving global progress
FIA President reflects on influential visit celebrating mobility innovation and motorsport growth Dubai, UAE, 8th June, 2025: FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has completed an official visit to Japan, reaffirming the strong ties between the Federation and one of the world's most influential nations in mobility and motorsport. As the governing body for world motorsport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, the FIA is committed to building partnerships that drive innovation, safety, and sustainability. Hosted by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) and President Masayoshi Sakaguchi, the visit offered vital insights into Japan's investment in smart infrastructure and the evolving role of cities as arenas for both mobility innovation and sporting events. Japan continues to be a vital partner in advancing the FIA's goals, and this visit highlighted the shared commitment of both Japan and the FIA to accelerate progress across the global transport and motorsport arenas. During his official visit, Ben Sulayem met with key national figures including Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Koji Murofushi, Commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency, and Hiromasa Nakano, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Their discussions focused on common challenges and opportunities – from advancing cleaner technologies and enhancing road safety, to expanding access to motorsport and preparing for the future of urban mobility. Reflecting on his visit, Ben Sulayem said: 'This has been an important milestone for the FIA as we deepen our relationship with Japan – a country that continues to lead by example in both mobility innovation and motorsport development. 'It was a personal honour to meet with Prime Minister Ishiba and leading ministers, and to witness firsthand the energy and commitment driving progress across the sector. 'From transformative government policies to world-class sporting activities including four FIA World Championship events, Japan shows how integrated approaches to mobility and sport can serve society. 'The JAF's dual role as a sport and mobility leader, representing more than 20 million members and hosting our Championships, is truly remarkable and I am grateful for their hospitality and support.' Ben Sulayem also highlighted the significance of having Mr. Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota, as an active member of the FIA Senate, symbolising the close and constructive relationship between Japan's automotive leaders and the FIA's global mission. The visit comes at a time of notable growth and renewed momentum for Japan's motorsport and mobility sectors. JAF now reports over 200,000 licensed racing drivers – a 20% increase over the past five years – with the 2025 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix recording its highest attendance since 2006. At the same time, Japan's broader mobility ecosystem continues to inspire on the world stage through cutting-edge innovation in smart cities, hydrogen, and sustainable technologies. With a mobility-first approach to infrastructure design that is seeing smart-transport apps rank among one of the fastest growing national services and a smart transportation market valued last year at $6.9 billion, Japan is a pioneer in the real-world integration of new technologies. Ben Sulayem has quickly moved on from Japan to Macau for the 2025 FIA Extraordinary General Assembly and Annual Conference starting on Tuesday and welcoming over 500 senior FIA delegates across mobility and motorsport from 149 countries. -ENDS- Notes to Editors: The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) is the governing body for world motorsport and the federation for mobility organisations globally. It develops and enforces regulations for motor sport, including seven FIA World Championships, to ensure worldwide competitions are safe and fair for all.

Ben Sulayem guides FIA to financial turnaround, marking new era of growth and stability - Middle East Business News and Information
Federation reports strongest financial result in almost ten years – operating result of € 4.7m for FY2024, up from operating loss of €-24.0m in 2021 Dubai, UAE, 20th May, 2025: The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, today announced a pivotal turnaround in its financial health under the leadership of FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. At the end of the fiscal year 2024, the Fédération reported that is has achieved a robust operating result of € 4.7m, and an operating income of € 182.0m. This takes it from a considerable financial loss of €-24.0m in 2021, before Ben Sulayem was elected. In line with Ben Sulayem's manifesto pledge, and under the FIA's new leadership since 2021, the organisation has undergone a comprehensive strategic transformation process, designed to radically improve internal systems and processes. It has strengthened its teams, optimised its working practices and shifted to a more efficient and financially sustainable model. Today's result, which will be published in full in the FIA's 2024 Activity Report in June, reflects this positive transition. 'Upon my election as President of the FIA, I committed to ensuring a profitable operation,' said Ben Sulayem. 'Today, I am incredibly proud to show that we have achieved this mission, delivering the strongest set of financial results in eight years. 'Improving the governance, transparency and financial health of the FIA was central to my manifesto pledge, and I will continue to work with all of our internal and external stakeholders to drive positive change within the FIA, to deliver better outcomes for our Member Clubs, our people and for all.' The operating result of € 4.7m marks a strong improvement from 2023, with operating income growth of €+26.7m respectively +17% year-on-year. The FIA is absent of any financial debt at the 2024 fiscal year end, and it reports a healthy equity ratio of 45%. The current leadership team has worked rigorously since 2021 to ameliorate its internal systems, controls and processes. It has strongly enhanced procurement control and automation, implemented internal quarterly reporting, and established a financial steering model which enables effective decision making within senior management. This model has enabled increased budget control and has allowed the FIA to review its pricing and reallocate resources to best pursue its strategic priorities across motor sport and mobility. In addition to these important measures, the FIA has introduced a second General Assembly mid-year, to ensure that prior year audited financial accounts can be established within the appropriate timeframe for release. For the second year running, the FIA will publish a full Activity Report ahead of the General Assembly in June. This year, the Activity Report has been enhanced by a new P&L presentation format which enhances clarity and transparency. The strengthened financial health of the FIA brings the organisation out of a five-year long period of substantial operating loss, enabling it to provide a world-class service to its 245 Member Clubs around the world, as well as reinvest into the seven World Championships under its governance. The FIA, which is a not-for-profit organisation, is well-placed to continue pushing forward its core objectives such as strengthening grassroots participation in motor sport and driving the sustainability agenda across the board.
