FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LED, OLED AND QLED?
LED TVs are typically the most budget-friendly TVs you can buy, however, they tend to have lower colour accuracy and lack the true blacks found in OLED TVs, resulting in less contrast.
OLED TVs are meanwhile more expensive than LED and QLED TVs – but, if you're after exceptional picture quality, OLED is the way to go. OLED TVs have individual pixels that are self-lit, producing perfect blacks and incredible contrast.
QLED sits somewhere in between the two, using traditional LCD panels lit by LEDs with an added quantum dot layer. They produce a wider range of colours and offer better overall brightness compared to OLED. However, they also have less accurate black tones.
Essentially, if you're looking for the best picture quality available, OLED TVs are your best option. If you want a brighter display that's more budget friendly, QLED could be a better choice. If you're looking for value and a wide range of screen sizes, LED models are meanwhile worth a look in.
DO YOU REALLY NEED TO USE A SOUNDBAR WITH YOUR TV?
While it is not a necessity to use a soundbar when watching your TV, there are many benefits to using one in your living room or home cinema.
Improving sound quality: The biggest benefit to adding a soundbar to your TV set-up is how well all your favourite shows, movies and video games will sound. TVs generally lack bass, so this additional will amp up the volume and improve the clarity of voices and dialogue.
Similar to surround sound: Instead of filling your space with speaker, you can pretty much hear it all form every angle as the sound from soundbars (specifically those with DTS: X or Dolby Atmos) mimics a surround sound experience.
Subwoofer connectivity: Not only are they easy to connect to your TV set, but they can also pair with subwoofers to add some extra oomph. Many also come with a subwoofer included to set-up straight away.
Easy to use smart features: These high tech devices typically come with Wi-Fi access and connection to voice assistants like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant as part of your smart home.

'Eat the rich': Venice protests shadow Bezos wedding
Don't miss out on the headlines from Breaking News. Followed categories will be added to My News. At least 500 protesters marched through Venice on Saturday, condemning Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's wedding to journalist Lauren Sanchez, a lavish affair that has drawn backlash in the historic Italian city. "Bezos, out of the lagoon", the demonstrators chanted as they wound through the city centre, some brandishing signs that read: "Eat the rich", "Rejected", and accusations that Venice's mayor is "corrupt". The peaceful protest, held in sweltering heat, was led by the "No place for Bezos" group, which has campaigned for days against what it calls the couple's harmful economic and environmental footprint on the city. "We are here against what Bezos represents, his model, the Amazon model, based on exploiting people and land," said Alice Bazzoli, 24, an activist with "No Space for Bezos" who has lived in Venice for five years, speaking to AFPTV. Protesters later unfurled a large "No place for Bezos" banner and lit flares above the famous Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal. Matteo Battistuta, a 20-year-old student, said he wanted to send the message that "Venice is fighting back, it's not a dead city, it acts in its own interest before tourism's". "We believe Venice can still be a place worth living in," he added. Bezos, 61, and Sanchez, 55, exchanged vows during a ceremony Friday evening on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, opposite St Mark's Square. The ceremony capped off a week of yacht parties and VIP events, due to end with a lavish ball Saturday night -- as Venetians remain divided over the impact on the city's image. Guests included Ivanka Trump, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, American football star Tom Brady, TV host Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates. cor-cmk/blb/srg/gv Originally published as 'Eat the rich': Venice protests shadow Bezos wedding

Elon Musk reignites criticism of Trump's 'big beautiful bill' as Republicans narrowly pass vote
Billionaire Elon Musk has doubled down on his distaste for President Donald Trump's sprawling tax and spending cuts bill, hours before it was narrowly cleared in a last night Senate vote. Senate Republicans on Saturday procedurally advanced the package of tax breaks, spending cuts and bolstered deportation funds before its July Fourth deadline. The tally, 51-49, came after a tumultuous night with Vice President JD Vance at the Capitol to break a potential tie. Tense scenes played out in the chamber as voting came to a standstill, dragging on for more than three hours as holdout senators huddled for negotiations, and took private meetings off the floor. In the end, two Republicans opposed the motion to proceed, joining all Democrats. Hours before, Mr Musk took to social media to claim the latest draft will "destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country." "It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future," he said of the nearly 1,000-page bill. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO later posted that the bill would be "political suicide for the Republican Party". The criticisms reopen a recent fiery conflict between the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency and the administration he recently left. They also represent yet another headache for Republican Senate leaders who are suing their majorities in Congress to push aside Democratic opposition, but they have run into a series of political and policy setbacks. Not all Republican politicians are on board with proposals to reduce spending on Medicaid, food stamps and other programs as a way to help cover the cost of extending some $3.8 trillion in Trump tax breaks. This is also not the first time Musk has made his opinions about Mr Trump's "big, beautiful bill" clear. Days after he left the federal government last month with a laudatory celebration in the Oval Office, he blasted the bill as "pork-filled" and a "disgusting abomination". "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it," Mr Musk wrote on X earlier this month. In another post, the wealthy GOP donor who had recently forecasted that he'd step back from political donations threatened to fire lawmakers who "betrayed the American people". When Mr Trump clapped back to say he was disappointed with Mr Musk, back-and-forth fighting erupted and quickly escalated. Mr Musk suggested without evidence that Mr Trump, who spent the first part of the year as one of his closest allies, was mentioned in files related to sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein. Mr Musk ultimately tried to make nice with the administration, saying he regretted some of his posts that "went too far". Mr Trump responded in kind in an interview with The New York Post, saying: "Things like that happen. I don't blame him for anything." It's unclear how Mr Musk's latest broadsides will influence the fragile peace he and the president had enjoyed in recent weeks. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Meanwhile, Mr Musk has spent recent weeks focused on his businesses, and his political influence has waned since he left the administration. Still, the wealthy businessman poured hundreds of millions of dollars into Mr Trump's campaign in 2024, demonstrating the impact his money can have if he's passionate enough about an issue or candidate to restart his political spending. Though he was silent on Mr Musk, Mr Trump laid on pressure and lashed out strongly at Republican holdouts in the Senate as politicians spent hours during the vote. He accused Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina of seeking publicity with his no vote and threatened to campaign against the senator's re-election. AP

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding: $50m nuptials ends with A-lister pyjama party, as crowds protest against festivities
Billionaire Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding extravaganza has ended with an A-list pyjama party, as a crowd of demonstrators descended on Venice to protest against the lavish festivities. Bezos, 61, and Sanchez, 55, celebrated their nuptials in the floating Italian city this weekend, with a VIP guest list comprising singers, actors and other famed attendees. However, protesters turned up in droves on Saturday to rally against the three-day spectacle, which some argue has exploited Venice, while sparking environmental concerns for others. At one stage, a large group of protesters could be seen on the Rialto Bridge holding a banner targeting the Amazon founder while flares let off bursts of red, blue and orange smoke. "No place for Bezos," the banner read. "Kisses Yes, Bezos No," another slogan read on shirts of some demonstrators. Planned protests had earlier forced Bezos and Sanchez to relocate their wedding to a more secluded part of the Arsenale, which is a historic shipyard complex in Venice's Castello district. Despite the campaigners, the celebrations carried on with a PJ bash on Saturday in honour of the newlyweds. Leonardo DiCaprio was one of the celebrities to don his best sleepwear fashion, with the Titanic star seen wearing a velvet burgundy ensemble paired with a black coat and cap. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates sported a set of black pyjamas, while Orlando Bloom was snapped in a black-and-white polka dot set. Sydney Sweeney opted for a strapless lace black gown, while Kim Kardashian boldly stepped out in lingerie with thigh-high stockings and nude pumps. Oprah Winfrey looked elegant in caramel-coloured silk pants and a matching top with feathered cuffs, while she held a dainty hand fan. Meanwhile, Bezos and Sanchez - who have been together since around 2019 and became engaged in 2023 - could be seen smiling as they waved to the crowd. The billionaire businessman looked dapper in an all-black suit while Sanchez stunned in a pink strapless gown with lace and beaded trimming. Sanchez, a former journalist, completed the look with diamond earrings and a black clutch bag which read "Mrs Bezos". The 55-year-old beamed as she waved from a balcony of the luxury Aman hotel, where she has been staying with her husband. Among other big names who attended the wedding celebrations were singers Usher and Ellie Goulding, as well as members of the Kardashian-Jenner family. NFL legend Tom Brady, Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, and Queen Rania of Jordan were also present. Guests could be seen heavily protected by security guards throughout the festivities. During their nuptials on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore on Friday, Bezos and Sanchez exchanged vows in a 25-minute ceremony. The multi-day wedding event has reportedly come with a price tag of about USD $50 million.
