Bayern Munich legend praises Kaizer Chiefs
The Ghanaian legend was part of the meeting, held ahead of the much-anticipated Toyota Cup on Saturday, 26 July. In attendance were several prominent figures in Ghanaian football, including former internationals and representatives of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana as well as Amakhosi legends.
'The entire exercise led by Chiefs has been an invaluable learning experience for all of us involved in club football on the continent,' Kuffour told the media.
'We are honoured to welcome legends like Nomvethe and Fredericks to Ghana. Their presence here, as part of the Toyota Cup initiative, goes beyond football. It's about building bridges across Africa through the beautiful game.
'It sets a powerful example of how we can grow stronger through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual respect,' the PFAG President said.
Kaizer Chiefs will play Asante Kotoko on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban. Amakhosi recently concluded their pre-season tour to the Netherlands, where they played five matches. Saturday's match against Ghanaian giants will give Nasreddine Nabi a clear indication of how prepared his team is for next season.
Kaizer Chiefs kick off their season against Stellenbosch on 10 August.

Finally, some good news for Kaizer Chiefs fans
Kaizer Chiefs are upping their preparations before the start of the 2025-2026 Betway Premiership season, and there's some good news. Rushwin Dortley is nearing a return to action The 23-year-old central defender underwent knee surgery in March. Pitso Mosimane's son heads to Italy The first half of the campaign was one to forget for Chiefs. Rushwin Dortley, however, was one of the true bright sparks of a season threatening to peter out into nothing. The 23-year-old central defender from Cape Town immediately looked assured and at home in big matches for Chiefs, and indeed South Africa. Losing Dortley in March was a massive blow as the youngster needed surgery. We could see him back in action near the start of the 2025-2026 campaign. That would feel like a new signing for the fans. Dortley quickly became a key pillar in the defence, making 21 appearances across all competitions before being struck down. The technical team will need to be cautious when they reintroduce him to the fold after such a lengthy layoff, but it's undoubtedly a huge plus to see him on the comeback trail. 'Rushwin Dortley is running around a pitch, which is nearly empty – well, except for physiotherapist Phumzile Ngobese, who is monitoring the defender's run closely,' Amakhosi announced on 15 July. 'The Amakhosi squad is training at another field of the Dutch amateur side WWNA in Wenum-Wiesell, which is basically next to Kaizer Chiefs' hotel in Apeldoorn. Dortley is partly jogging; at other times, he increases his pace.' Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley returns. We must play like the champions we are
'Hopefully we can go to the final and bringing the cup back home would be the cherry on top,' added the Banyana forward. Gabriela Salgado says Banyana are ready to take on Nigeria in the WAFCON semifinals on Tuesday. Picture: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix Banyana Banyana forward Gabriela Salgado says it is up to South Africa to show they are the best in the continent when they take on the Super Falcons of Nigeria on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). ALSO READ: Chiefs out to set stall for new season in Toyota Cup Banyana are defending the title they won three years ago, beating Nigeria along the way and hosts Morocco in the final to become African champions for the first time. Banyana have the form If Nigeria have the continental pedigree, with nine WAFCON titles to their name, it is Banyana who have the recent form. Banyana have beaten Nigeria in two of their last three meetings at a WAFCON finals. 'We are defending champions, we must just go and play like the champions we are,' Salgado said ahead of Tuesday's game at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. 'We have the whole country behind us and our families at home, they are backing us and believe in us. It is just about believing in ourselves, in each other and playing the football we know how to play. Whatever chances we get, we need to take them.' If they can get past Nigeria, Banyana would be odds on for a second straight WAFCON title. 'Hopefully we can go to the final and bringing the cup back home would be the cherry on top,' added Salgado, who missed out on the last WAFCON triumph through injury. 'Being in a final would be amazing (personally),' she said. 'The team is prepared' 'But my teammates play a big role too. We are a good group of players who celebrate each other's wins. In women's football we boost each other, we want each other to succeed. But to succeed for myself and my fans would (also) be something incredible. Kaizer Chiefs and Nigerian striker; what's going on?
Kaizer Chiefs have been linked to Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro for weeks, but why have the Soweto giants not signed the Mamelodi Sundowns man? Ighodaro spent last season on loan to AmaZulu, where he scored five goals in 25 league matches. Although Amakhosi are keen on signing the 24-year-old forward, the former SuperSport United striker is weighing his options. 'There's been a lot of talk about Ighodaro joining Chiefs, but the reports suggesting he has signed are inaccurate,' Soccer Laduma reported. 'He is still assessing his options both locally and abroad. Nothing has been concluded'. Ighodaro is believed to be exploring a potential overseas move, with Moroccan side Maghreb Association Sportive de Fès (MAS Fès). If Amakhosi want to sign the Nigerian striker, they might need to pay more. Kaizer Chiefs have already signed a new striker this season. With Ranga Chivaviro gone, the Soweto giants found a replacement in Flavio Silva. The 29-year-old Portuguese was part of the squad that toured the Netherlands for three weeks and even played a few matches for the Glamour Boys. Chiefs have already confirmed six signings, which are: Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, and Siphesihle Ndlovu. However, Ighodaro was not among the listed additions following the team's return from Europe. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
