Wisconsin basketball schedules nonconference game against recent NCAA Tournament opponent
The Wisconsin Badgers will square off against the BYU Cougars on Nov. 21, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In a rematch of the epic showdown in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament round of 32, the two teams will tip off at the Delta Center, the home of the NBA's Utah Jazz, in mid-November. The Cougars claimed a 91-89 victory in the March 22 tournament showdown between the two teams in Denver, Colorado.
The matchup is expected to be the first of a home-and-home, with BYU set to travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2026. The news also arrives on the heels of star guard John Blackwell's decision to return to Wisconsin for the 2025-26 slate. The rising junior dropped 21 points, snared six rebounds and dished out three assists in a game-high 38 minutes in the season-ending two-point loss.
Both BYU and Wisconsin's rosters will appear much different when the two squads take the hardwood in November. With the departures of star wing John Tonje, veteran center Steven Crowl, guard Max Klesmit and bench contributors Carter Gilmore and Kamari McGee, Greg Gard turned to the portal. Former San Diego State guard Nick Boyd, Virginia wing Andrew Rhode and Portland forward Austin Rapp are projected to suit up alongside Blackwell and center Nolan Winter in UW's 2025-26 starting lineup.
Senior guard Braeden Carrington, forward Aleksas Bieliauskas, sophomore Jack Robison and true freshmen true freshman Zach Kinziger, Hayden Jones and Will Garlock are also forecasted to assume some of the bench responsibilities for the Badgers this fall.
BYU will return star Richie Saunders, who dropped 25 against the Badgers in the NCAA Tournament, and starting center Keba Keita. Kevin Young's most significant asset will be freshman small forward A.J. Dybantsa, a five-star recruit and projected No. 1 pick of the 2026 NBA draft. Dybantsa's pull has already landed BYU non-conference games against Villanova, UConn, Wisconsin and Clemson.
Wisconsin is looking to build off its final 27-10 record during the 2024-25 slate, a season which culminated in a Big Ten tournament title game appearance and No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The test against BYU's talent will serve as an indicator of how well Gard's new pieces can coalesce early in the season.
Wisconsin's November schedule also includes a high-profile four-team tournament in San Diego, California -- the Rady Children's Invitational.

San Antonio Spurs' Dream Scenario for 2026 Remains Unrealistic Even With LeBron James News

San Antonio Spurs' Dream Scenario for 2026 Remains Unrealistic Even With LeBron James News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While there were some big names kicking off free agency this offseason, the San Antonio Spurs signed center Luke Kornet in one of the more celebrated deals of the summer, suggesting that, for the most part, this class is lackluster. Advertisement Of course, depending on how contract extensions fall, the class of 2026 could be loaded, headlined by De'Aaron Fox, Trae Young, and Luka Doncic. Players will be eligible to sign extensions on August 2, with Fox expected to cement himself long-term in San Antonio, and Doncic is expected to do the same with the Los Angeles Lakers. After being traded without his permission and LeBron James opting in to his contract, preventing the Lakers from re-signing Dorian Finney-Smith, there is reason to believe that Doncic and the Lakers have less than a perfect marriage, although he is expected to ink his name to a deal this summer. "The Lakers can offer Doncic a four-year, $229 million extension. Doncic could also opt to sign a three-year, $165 million extension with a player option in 2028, per Marks, which would then allow him to sign a max deal in 2028 that would give him 35% of the salary cap for five seasons," outlined ESPN's Dave McMenamin on Saturday. That report came out two days before James committed to next season, although that isn't expected to change much, as LA will give Doncic the keys to the franchise, provided that they haven't already. Advertisement "While the exact salary scenario Doncic and the Lakers land on remains to be seen, there's no signs of a split anytime soon," McMenamin continued. "A source close to Doncic told ESPN that Walter's purchase was a positive development." Spurs fans can dream about a scenario where Doncic returns to Texas, paring up with Victor Wembanyama in the Silver and Black. While the Spurs could save enough money to make him an offer, the chances of him agreeing to play for a third team seem low, and in order to do so, the Spurs would have to not give Fox the extension he has been clearly eager to sign since being traded in February. All signs point to Doncic being a rival to Wemby and the Spurs instead of an asset, which, to be fair, should have been the expected outcome all along. LeBron James Trade Setback on Thursday Turns Heads

LeBron James Trade Setback on Thursday Turns Heads originally appeared on Athlon Sports. LeBron James recently picked up his $52.6 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers, but has frequently been at the center of trade speculation over the past few days. Advertisement While that may seem like an oxymoron of sorts, the four-time NBA MVP who is heading into his 23rd NBA season made it clear through his agent, Rich Paul, that he hopes to contend for a title in what is the twilight of his career. Unfortunately for him, the Lakers are now focused on building around Luka Doncic, whom they acquired in a trade in February of this past season. This unspoken tension has sparked trade rumors centered on James, but based on multiple reports, the interest in trading for the expensive 40-year-old superstar is minimal. However, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported on Thursday that the Dallas Mavericks would be interested in adding James, but with the caveat that it would be via a buyout. Advertisement A new possibility that has certainly caught the attention of fans on social media. "The entire league would be interested in a buyout LeBron James let's be serious," pointed out one user. 'I mean i dont see why he wouldnt want to come, Kyrie, Ad, Kidd, Vogel now," added a second. "If LeBron is bought out then damn, prepare yourself Dallas because it only makes sense here," urged a third. "This the only way I'd want bron on the team," said another. "Good. Don't need to gut the team for that," suggested another. "yo this is crazy bron a buyout? Yeah, right," commented one fan. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James' (23) trade rumors are rampant this A. Vasquez-Imagn Images If the Lakers were to move on from James and he ended up in Dallas, he would be teaming up with Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson and this year's No. 1 pick, Cooper Flagg. Advertisement It would also mark a reunion of sorts, as James won titles with Davis (2020) and Irving (2016). More importantly for James, it'd give him one final legitimate shot at a title before he hangs it up. The Lakers don't have to buy him out or trade him, but it will be intriguing to see if this comes to fruition. San Antonio Spurs' Rookie Carter Bryant Compares Himself to Overlooked All-Star

San Antonio Spurs' Rookie Carter Bryant Compares Himself to Overlooked All-Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Antonio Spurs drafted Carter Bryant 14th overall to much fanfare. Expected to be a high-level 3-and-D player, the Spurs were willing to trade up to draft him, although that ended up being unnecessary. Advertisement Bryant shot a solid 37.1 percent from deep in his lone season at the University of Arizona, although he was a standout defender. Still, he was a bench player and is expected to be very, very raw in the NBA, although with time to develop behind Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Julian Champagnie, and Keldon Johnson, there isn't much of a rush. Upon being picked by San Antonio as a wing, it was hard to ignore the similarities between him and Spurs legend Sean Elliott, who made two All-Star teams with the Spurs and two All-American appearances with the Wildcats. Elliott is the color commentator for the Spurs' broadcasts. "Every time I walked outside of the game, it would either be people telling me to stay [at Arizona] longer so I could be like Sean, or people telling me that I reminded them of Sean Elliott on the court," Bryant revealed. "So I mean, that's a hell of a person to be compared to. I'm not complaining." Elliott himself has admitted that he sees a little bit of his game in Bryant's, although Elliott is likely a better shooter, and Bryant is likely a better defender, although "Ninja" was no slouch. Advertisement Elliott is the best player to ever suit up for Arizona, helped by the fact that he stayed for all four seasons before being picked third overall by the Spurs.
