
MoHERI launches ‘Inspirers of Change' initiative to promote positive institutional culture
The initiative was inaugurated last week under the patronage of H E Professor Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. The launch aligns with the ministry's broader vision to modernise institutional culture, strengthen employee engagement, and enhance overall organisational performance.
Designed to highlight individuals who serve as role models within the ministry, the initiative seeks to recognise employees who demonstrate a positive attitude, offer meaningful contributions, and actively drive change. By celebrating these efforts, 'Inspirers of Change' aims to inspire staff across all departments and levels to contribute to a more dynamic, inclusive, and transformative work environment.
The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials and staff members. It featured inspiring presentations by employees who shared personal stories of overcoming challenges and contributing to a culture of resilience and productivity.
Interactive sessions at the event focused on the human element of organisational change, underscoring how individual initiative, collaboration, and interpersonal engagement can significantly impact institutional success.
On the occasion, the ministry also unveiled the official visual identity of its Change Management Team, which will oversee the implementation of the initiative and ensure its progress throughout the year as part of a comprehensive work plan.
In its initial phase, the initiative will prioritise enhancing internal communication by sharing motivational messages and real-life success stories from within the ministry. Platforms such as WhatsApp will be used to help build a more connected and appreciative workplace culture, fostering a strong sense of belonging among employees.
MoHERI confirmed that 'Inspirers of Change' marks a significant step forward in its efforts to create a supportive, innovative, and forward-thinking organisational environment. The initiative supports the Ministry's strategic objectives to invest in human capital and encourage staff to actively contribute to its mission and vision.
It also aligns with the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040, reinforcing national efforts toward sustainable institutional transformation and excellence in public service.

ROP wins International Road Federation Award

At HM's behest, Shura Council to conclude its second ordinary session of 10th term on 13 July
Muscat: At the behest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Shura Council will adjourn its second ordinary session (2024-2025) of the tenth term (2023-2027) on Sunday, 13 July, in implementation of Article 41 of the Council of Oman Law. Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, stated: 'The Council has witnessed extensive legislative activity in the first half of the tenth term (2023-2027) during its first and second sessions, translating the requirements of strengthening the legislative framework supporting the implementation of Oman Vision 2040. This aligns with its constitutional roles defined by the Basic Law of the State and the Council of Oman Law, reflected in the Council's legislative and oversight work across various sectors." He emphasised that the Council diligently carried out its duties during the second ordinary session, closely monitoring national developments, particularly as Oman began evaluating the achievements of its Tenth Five-Year Plan and outlining the eleventh. These developments were tracked through the Council's bureau and standing committees, which provided insights and recommendations to enhance national plans and visions. Al Nadabi noted that legislative activity peaked during the tenth term, with the Council reviewing 39 draft laws and agreements referred by the government across its first and second sessions. This included revising legislation, proposing new laws, and amending existing ones to meet the demands of Oman's renewed renaissance and contribute to national progress. Additionally, Council members actively employed oversight tools, with over 300 monitoring instruments submitted during the two sessions, alongside meetings aimed at strengthening integration and dialogue between the Council, the government, state institutions, and citizens. The second ordinary session saw significant legislative work, with 21 government-referred projects (14 draft laws and 7 agreements) and 3 legislative proposals initiated by the Council. The session included 14 regular meetings, four of which were dedicated to discussing ministerial statements from services sector ministers, addressing challenges in implementing development plans.

North Al Batinah contributes 11.1% to Oman's GDP
MUSCAT, JUNE 30 North Al Batinah Governorate is fast becoming a major economic driver for Oman, contributing 11.1% to the national GDP in 2024—up from 3.7 billion Omani rials in 2023 to 4.3 billion rials in 2024, marking an impressive 16% growth. This transformation is the result of a clear, strategic roadmap led by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the governorate, closely aligned with Oman Vision 2040. Unlike traditional action plans, the Chamber's approach focused on empowering the private sector, improving the business environment, and enhancing institutional performance. A total of 88 targeted initiatives and programmes were launched, covering service development, system integration, and investment promotion. These efforts have reshaped the governorate's economic structure and boosted its national standing. Heavy industries were the main contributors, generating RO 1.9 billion — 44.2% of the governorate's GDP. The logistics and services sector followed with RO 1.1 billion, or 25.6%, while agriculture and other diversified sectors made up the remainder. This diverse portfolio highlights the region's sustainable and balanced development model. Saeed al Abri, Chairman of the Chamber in North Al Batinah, attributed the success to effective planning and institutional leadership. 'This progress is the result of structured planning and strong performance monitoring. The Chamber has moved beyond advocacy—it actively links the private sector to national goals,' he said. Al Abri also stressed Oman's global trade advantage: 'Oman has some of the lowest customs duties on exports, thanks to our balanced foreign policy and trade agreements. Our products are trusted and competitive worldwide.' North Al Batinah's strategic location on the Arabian Sea, combined with advanced infrastructure such as Sohar Port and Freezone, and Industrial City, continues to draw global investment. The logistics sector plays a vital role in reducing operational costs and enhancing efficiency. As the region cements its role as a key trade and industrial hub, North Al Batinah is not only boosting Oman's economy but also offering a model for regional-led development. With strong partnerships and consistent execution, it is well on its way to becoming a globally connected engine of growth.
