Pregnant woman's dad accuses spouse, kin of harassment
Kolhapur: The father of a seven-month pregnant woman from Sangli, who died by suicide on June 6, has accused her husband and in-laws of harassing her for dowry.
The father, veterinarian Chandrakant Lakshman Patil (55), filed a complaint with the Kupwad MIDC police on June 8, two days after his daughter, Rutuja Sukumar Rajage (29), died by suicide at her in-laws' house in Sangli district's Kupwad town.
The post-mortem report revealed that she was seven-month pregnant. In the FIR, the father said the marriage took place in 2021. "Her husband, Sukumar, is working in Merchant Navy as a second officer... Rutuja was being harassed for dowry off late," the father stated in the FIR.
Acting on the complaint, the police nabbed Sukumar, his father, Suresh Rajage, and mother Alaka on June 9, after which they were sent to two days of police custody. On Wednesday, they were sent in judicial remand. "Rujuta was harassed for dowry. We invoked Section 85 of BNS for abetment of suicide by dowry demand," assistant inspector Deepak Bhandwalkar of Kupwad MIDC police said.

Ahmedabad plane crash: Last victim identified by DNA tests cremated; closure only solace for kin
Anil Khimani , the last victim of the horrific June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash identified through DNA tests, has been cremated in Gujarat's Kutch district, bringing closure to the family after two weeks of wait and distress that included submission of samples twice. The 35-year-old, a mason by profession and father of two minor daughters, was on his way to London on Air India Flight 171 to meet relatives when it crashed into a medical college complex in Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in what turned out to be one of the worst aviation disasters in recent times. His father Laljibhai had received a call from the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which has been helming the DNA test and identification process, on Friday evening about Anil's body being identified. It took more than two weeks for authorities to identify Anil's body, but at the end of it all we are at peace that it was identified and we could give him a dignified final farewell," Laljibhai said. In an effort to get closure to the pain from the loss, the family had held a symbolic cremation on Thursday, he added. Live Events "For the DNA test, I gave my sample first. But a few days later we were told that another sample will have to be given. We once again went to Ahmedabad and this time my wife gave the sample. We had been anxiously waiting for the results since then," the distraught father recounted. Following the final victim being identified, state government authorities on Saturday had put the death toll at 260, including 241 out of 242 on board the Dreamliner. The others were killed on the ground.

Bareilly: A 60-year-old man was arrested under BNS section 298 -- "defiling a place of worship with intent to insult religion" -- and sent to jail on Sunday for allegedly offering 'namaz' inside a temple complex in Budaun. A widely circulated video of the man, identified as Ali Mohammad, purportedly praying in the religious premises has sparked outrage. The incident, which took place in Papad village under Dataganj limits, is said to be around two months old and it gained traction only after netizens started calling for his arrest. Dataganj circle officer KK Tiwari said, "An FIR has been registered against Ali. He has been arrested. Someone recorded a video of him offering a prayer supposedly near a tree inside the premises and shared it online." Based on the clip, police have lodged an FIR and sent him to prison. The man's "provocative" action has angered a large section of the local population of the other community, police said. Meanwhile, Paratma Das, the temple's mahant, said, "Ali Mohammad had been visiting the temple complex for 35 years. He was also involved in cleaning and feeding cows, and even sometimes took part in 'aarti' and other rituals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending Local Enterprise Accounting Software [Click Here] Accounting ERP Click Here Undo He looked disturbed of late, and I used to give him meals...
