ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Following the success of the inaugural edition of Investopia Global – Mediterranean, held in Cyprus with strong participation from leaders, ministers, businesspersons, investors, and economic experts from the UAE, Lebanon, Cyprus, Greece and Europe, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of Investopia, and Olga Kefalogianni, Greek Minister of Tourism, announced the launch of the event's second edition, to be held in Greece next year.The upcoming edition aims to strengthen partnerships across key sectors of the new economy, including tourism, innovation, entrepreneurship, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and food security. The second edition of Investopia Global - Mediterranean will be organised in collaboration with several ministries and government bodies in the UAE and Greece, alongside Investopia partners. The announcement comes as Investopia continues to expand its global footprint and strengthen its presence on both regional and international stages, particularly following the successful organisation of three consecutive editions of Investopia Europe in Milan from 2023 to 2025, before moving to Berlin in June 2026. Bin Touq affirmed that the UAE and Greece share historical and strategic relations across all fields, particularly in the economic and investment sectors. These relations are significantly supported and nurtured by the wise leadership of both friendly countries. The Minister explained that the UAE is keen to continue enhancing cooperation with Greece in advanced and sustainable economic sectors. The Minister of Economy said: "The countries of the Mediterranean region enjoy significant momentum from competitive economic components and promising investment opportunities linked to vital areas, particularly the new economy, tourism, hospitality, entrepreneurship, technology, AI, logistics, healthcare, and renewable energy. We look forward, through the second edition of Investopia Global - Mediterranean, which will be held in Greece next year, to enhancing connectivity between business communities and these future sectors, and creating new investment partnerships at both the governmental and private levels, in line with the latest global trends."Olga Kefalogianni stated that Greece and the UAE share vibrant and expanding economic relations, underpinned by a sustainable and diversified partnership built through joint efforts. She emphasised that hosting the second edition of Investopia Mediterranean in Greece reflects the strength of economic and investment ties between the two friendly nations.The event, she noted, will further enhance collaboration between the business communities of both countries and support bilateral cooperation across sectors of mutual interest. Investopia has successfully organised four flagship conferences in the UAE since its inception, along with 16 global editions in various cities around the world.
The events brought together over 10,000 participants, including leaders, experts, businessmen, investors, specialists, and entrepreneurs from across the globe, to shape a sustainable economic future, enhance the UAE's position as a leading global investment destination, and create meaningful economic partnerships and promising investment opportunities in sustainable economic sectors such as FinTech, space, aviation technologies, AI, green energy, circular economy, and fashion.

President Donald Trump said Friday (August 1) he has ordered the firing of a key economic official, accusing her of manipulating employment data for political reasons after a new report showed cracks in the US jobs market. US job growth missed expectations in July, Labor Department data showed, and revisions to hiring figures in recent months brought them to the weakest levels since the Covid-19 pandemic. Without providing evidence, Trump lashed out at the department's commissioner of labor statistics, writing on social media that the jobs numbers "were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad." In a separate post on his Truth Social platform, he charged that Commissioner Erika McEntarfer had "faked" jobs data to boost Democrats' chances of victory in the recent presidential election. "McEntarfer said there were only 73,000 Jobs added (a shock!) but, more importantly, that a major mistake was made by them, 258,000 Jobs downward, in the prior two months," Trump said, referring to latest data for July. "Similar things happened in the first part of the year, always to the negative," Trump said, insisting that the world's biggest economy was "booming" under his leadership. He later told reporters "we need people that we can trust," accusing the economic official of inflating hiring figures under former president Joe Biden's administration. 'Dangerous precedent' The US added 73,000 jobs last month, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent from 4.1 per cent, said the Department of Labour earlier Friday. Hiring numbers for May were revised down from 144,000 to 19,000. The figure for June was shifted from 147,000 to 14,000. This was notably lower than job creation levels in recent years. During the pandemic, the economy lost jobs. The employment data points to challenges in the key labor market as companies took a cautious approach in hiring and investment while grappling with Trump's sweeping — and rapidly changing — tariffs this year. The numbers also pile pressure on the central bank as it mulls the best time to cut interest rates. With tariff levels climbing since the start of the year, both on imports from various countries and on sector-specific products such as steel, aluminum and autos, many firms have faced higher business costs. Some are now passing them along to consumers. William Beach, who previously held McEntarfer post at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, warned that her firing "sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the statistical mission of the Bureau." The National Association for Business Economics (NABE) condemned her dismissal, saying large revisions in jobs numbers "reflect not manipulation, but rather the dwindling resources afforded to statistical agencies." "Firing the head of a key government agency because you don't like the numbers they report, which come from surveys using long established procedures, is what happens in authoritarian countries, not democratic ones," slammed Larry Summers, former US Treasury secretary under Democratic president Bill Clinton. 'Gamechanger' Heather Long, chief economist at the Navy Federal Credit Union, said Friday's jobs report was a "gamechanger." "The labor market is deteriorating quickly," said Long, noting that of the growth in July, "75 per cent of those jobs were in one sector: health care." "The economy needs certainty soon on tariffs," Long said. "The longer this tariff whiplash lasts, the more likely this weak hiring environment turns into layoffs." It remains unclear when the dust will settle, with Trump ordering the reimposition of steeper tariffs on scores of economies late Thursday, which are set to take effect in a week. A sharp weakening in the labor market could push the Federal Reserve toward slashing interest rates sooner to shore up the economy. On Friday, the two Fed officials who voted this week against the central bank's decision to keep rates unchanged warned that standing pat risks further damaging the economy. Both Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman and Governor Christopher Waller argued that the inflationary effects of tariffs were temporary. They added in separate statements that the bank should focus on fortifying the economy to avert further weakening in the labor market. Putting off an interest rate cut "could result in a deterioration in the labor market and a further slowing in economic growth," Bowman said.

Job interviews were conducted on-site with qualified Emirati candidates, led by officials from the participating showcased their available job opportunities on the Nafis platform during the open career days, which were held in collaboration with local Human Resources Departments and Neighbourhood Councils across various emirates of the UAE, in addition to the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, University of Dubai, and Fatima College of Health Abdulla Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary of National Talents at MoHRE, reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to continue organising open career days, which enjoy a reputation for being highly credible and reliable among UAE citizens, employers, and companies. "This confidence stems from the fact that these events are held under direct supervision from MoHRE, which examines the nature of the job opportunities offered and the salaries, in addition to following up on employment processes after interviews to ensure participating companies are serious with their intent to hire Emiratis. We commend our partners for their efforts and support for the open career days, as well as their dedication to ensuring the events' success.''Al Ali noted that open career days offer a range of advantages, most notably providing job opportunities for UAE citizens and enabling them to have their employment interviews onsite. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation continues to identify suitable available jobs, in coordination with partners in the private sector, to secure employment interviews based on real opportunities, track interview results, review acceptance and employment rates, and address obstacles to ensure the best outcomes. The growing turnout from UAE citizens at the open career days also reflects their seriousness and dedication to enhancing their active participation in the sustainable development process and the national economy.

1 Aug 2025 18:35 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA) has transformed the exchange services for lands and houses in Abu Dhabi by introducing a fully digital experience through the Iskan Abu Dhabi App. This is part of a series of updates aimed at enhancing the user journey and streamlining access to housing benefits via the new updates include the activation of the customer-to-customer exchange service for houses and land in Abu Dhabi, as well as the launch of an interactive digital platform within the Iskan Abu Dhabi App, to further enhance the exchange services. The platform empowers citizens seeking to exchange their housing or land benefits to post them on the app, making them visible to all users interested in property exchange. It also enables citizens to browse, explore, and select options that best align with their needs and preferences. The new updates enable citizens to exchange their housing or land benefits through the app using three options: as a mutual agreement between two citizens, exchange by searching for suitable properties on the platform, or by submitting a request to exchange with available properties from the government's inventory. Hamad Hareb Al Muhairi, Director-General of ADHA, said: 'We have strategically upgraded the exchange services to fulfil the requirements of citizens seeking to exchange their land or houses within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The update marks the shift to a fully digital experience, allowing users to list their properties and explore various exchange options through an interactive platform. The platform provides essential details such as location, plot size, and infrastructure readiness, among others. Citizens can now easily identify options that best align with their family needs, submit an exchange request through the app, and even receive the title deed, all from the comfort of their homes."At ADHA, we remain committed to providing smart solutions and launching initiatives to assist citizens who have received residential land but have not yet activated their loans or started construction to make use of their allocated loans within the specified timeframe. Through the update, we have expanded the range of available land options, presenting more practical and user-friendly solutions to citizens. Moreover, through our strategic partnership with 'Teyaseer', we are offering complimentary support services to housing loan beneficiaries, assisting them in everything from design and contractor selection to overseeing the construction process until the final handover of the property.'Citizens may submit land exchange requests by the following terms and conditions; the land to be exchanged must be residential and undivided, it must be free of any existing construction, except for a boundary wall (if present), it must not have any construction-related obstacles, except for the lack of infrastructure services, there must be no legal or regulatory restrictions or third-party rights associated with the land, and the land being exchanged must be within the same geographical area, except in cases of social and humanitarian the exchange of government housing units, the following conditions must be met; the houses must be government grants that are suitable for living, and undivided, the difference in the land area of the two houses must not exceed 30 per cent, and the difference in built-up area must not exceed 10 per cent, the age difference of the two houses must not exceed 10 years, there must be no legal or regulatory restrictions or third-party rights associated with the houses and the houses must be located within the same geographical area. If it is proven that either or both parties involved in the exchange have received financial gain or any form of compensation for it, the exchange approval will be revoked, without prejudice to any criminal, civil, or administrative liability.
