Lions player ratings after Wallabies win third test
The Wallabies were up for it from the start and the heavy rain suited them perfectly, with the likes of Will Skelton and Taniela Tupou able to throw their weight around to huge effect. The game went a bit towards the messy side with rucks resembling a wrestling match at points.
It's the first Lions series win since 2013 and they can all now celebrate it. They'll quickly forget about today no doubt. Tadhg Furlong. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile

Tough one in the rain but Lions as a whole lost the physical battle.

Tadhg Furlong 5
A historic ninth test start in-a-row but wasn't to be.
Maro Itoje (C) 5
Hard one for Itoje as he went off with HIA but was part of the pack that was losing physical battle.
James Ryan 6
He was probably the Lions' best chance of stopping Skelton but an unfortunate collision ended his game. Tom Curry Pic: INPHO/Dan Sheridan
Tadhg Beirne 7
Went until the very end. Undoubtedly one of the best players this series.
Tom Curry 7
Not far behind Beirne, Curry answered all critics this series, fair play to him. Maro Itoje getting tackled. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile
Jack Conan 7
Another solid display, with 6 tests starts now Conan has to be considered a Lions great.
Jamison Gibson-Park 7
Was a tough one in conditions but some crucial defensive plays kept Lions in it.
Finn Russell 5
Not the night for a player like Russell, but he's been great this tour. Jamison Gibson-Park. Pic: Steve Christo/Sportsfile
Blair Kinghorn 5
Rough night out there for wingers. Hard to do much when the ball is so tight to ruck.
Bundee Aki 5
Some poor handily but understandable in the miserable conditions. Bundee Aki on the attack Pic: INPHO/Billy Stickland
Huw Jones 5
Shifting out onto the wing didn't help but held his own out there.
Tommy Freeman 4
Wasn't a game for wingers with the weather and was also unfortunate with HIA. Hugo Keenan. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile
Hugo Keenan 6
Did very well aerially, especially considering conditions. Some of his catches helped Lions stay in the game.
Substitutes 7
Jac Morgan and Ellis Genge were particularly impactful when they came on. Some big shifts from Ollie Chessum and Owen Farrell having to come on in the first half. Andy Farrell. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile
Andy Farrell 6
Tour was already won so doubt Farrell will be too upset about the result. 6/2 split bit the Lions and choosing to keep with Freeman who came into the game with an injury probably wasn't wise in hindsight, though his substitution was unrelated to his injury but a HIA.
He could still be in contention for the next tour but who knows for now. A deserving reward after all his great work with Ireland.

Josh Honohan delighted Shamrock Rovers have hit a big game fixture pile-up
Josh Honohan loves the biggest occasions and so is relishing the jam-packed schedule facing Shamrock Rovers at this vital stage of the season. The Premier Division table-toppers travel to the Brandywell to face third placed Derry City this evening (7pm), then make the trip to Kosovo for Thursday's Europa Conference League third qualifying round first leg against FC Ballkani. Between last Thursday's second qualifying round second leg in Tallaght against St Joseph's and the FAI Cup third round clash with Longford Town on August 17, the Hoops are pencilled in for six games in 18 days. READ MORE: Keith Andrew picks his Brentford captain - and it's good news for Ireland fans READ MORE: Tottenham captain Son Heung-min announces final game for the club "Yes, we'll be busy," he said. "If we do well over the next couple of weeks we'll have the cup, we'll have the league and hopefully have a good European campaign. "That's why you want to come to this club, though. You want to be busy. If you're not busy you're not probably doing well. We're used to it now over the last couple of years and there's a good bit of experience in that dressing room. We'll be ready for it. "It's just more focus on one game at a time. Derry are up towards the top of the table, they're a really good team, they're always challenging. They don't just have a really good team, they have a really good squad. Josh Honohan at Ireland training in June (Image: ©INPHO/Ryan Byrne) "Sunday's a big game but it's the same aim - whatever game we play we go out there to get three points and there'll be no difference on that." Honohan's performances last season as Rovers made history by becoming the first Irish side to qualify for the knock-out stages of a European tournament earned him an Ireland squad call-up. The 24-year-old is hungry for Stephen Bradley's side to get back to the big stage. "You want to do that as a footballer," he said. "It's a big reason why I wanted to come here. It's an opportunity that we'll hopefully get. Obviously, we'll have a couple of rounds to win to get to that stage that we did last year. "That's a big reason why you want to play when you're younger, to go to Vienna, to go to Sparta Prague, to go to Chelsea - those experiences are really, really positive. I'll probably reflect on it more when my career is finished. "Every game is a big game but obviously the European games are big games, we're playing against top opposition. I want to do well in every game that I play. "The European games, they're really good teams and if we do well in the next couple of games we'll be playing against some top opposition like we did last year. I set a standard and it's up to me to meet that standard, no matter what game it is." Bradley made a host of changes for the second leg against St Joseph's on Thursday after the Hoops cantered to a 4-0 victory in Gibraltar. Honohan insists that the stalemate at home won't affect his team's momentum. Josh Honohan (Image: ©INPHO/Ryan Byrne) "It's probably just one of those games where sometimes we were just looking for that goal," he said. "I definitely thought we were a much better team on the night. It will be full focus on Sunday. "It was actually a tough enough game. A good bit of credit has to go to them, they dug in and they defended really well. The main aim before the tie started was to go through and we've done that." On a lighter note, he is delighted that another Corkman has been added to the house he is sharing with Rory Gaffney, Lee Grace, John McGovern, Matt Healy and Ed McGinty. Even more so because the new arrival is his 19-year-old brother, Callum. "Yeah, it's good now," he smiled. "We haven't been fighting too much! I told him to bring up the PlayStation, so we're not fighting. "He's settled in really well. I'm full of faith that he'll be a really big player for the club in the future. He's a really good player now but he's got a lot of potential. That's a big reason why he came up here, to fulfil that potential." Ireland hooker Sheehan cited over clearout of Australia's Lynagh during Lions defeat
Leinster and Ireland hooker Dan Sheehan could be facing disciplinary troubles after being cited for an incident during the first half of the British and Irish Lions' wet and wild tour-ending defeat to the Wallabies in Sydney on Saturday. The 26-year-old, one of the stand-out performers on Andy Farrell's successful touring side, was cited in the early hours of Sunday morning Down Under over a clear-out which left Australian out-half Tom Lynagh flattened 34 minutes into the third and final Test. Replays appeared to show Sheehan charging in slightly to the side of the ruck and his right elbow making contact with Lynagh's head. The Wallabies playmaker was taken off for a Head Injury Assessment and didn't return. Tom Lynagh flattened by elbow to the head. #AUSvBIL — Jobson Growthe (@electricBAU) August 2, 2025 The game-day officials, including TMO Marius Jonker, opted not to take any action against the No.2, despite howls of accusation from the home supporters when replays of the incident played at Accor Stadium. "British & Irish Lions player Dan Sheehan will have a citing complaint reviewed by an Independent Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) after being cited by the independent citing commissioner Adrien Menez for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.20 (a) (a player must not charge into a ruck or maul…) in the Australia v British & Irish Lions third test in Sydney on Saturday, 2 August," a statement from World Rugby confirmed. "In line with World Rugby's expedited off-field sanction process, Sheehan's case will be considered by the on-duty Independent Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) comprising Wang Shao-ing (chair), Val Toma and Mike Mika on Sunday, 3 August 2025."

Eamonn Sweeney: Don't believe the hype – this Lions tour was a phoney war
The British and Irish Lions' series win in Australia was as unimpressive as sporting victories get. Andy Farrell's men invented a new genre: the inglorious triumph.
