Battlefield 6 open beta starts August 9: Adds revive, enhances class, map

Battlefield 6 Open Beta Details: Battlefield 6's open beta kicks off from August 9 with revised class traits, map changes, loadout modes, weapon balance tweaks, and a new revive feature in Domination
New Delhi
American video game publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed the early access beta for Battlefield 6 will begin on August 7, followed by an open beta running from August 9–10 and August 14–17. The studio will temporarily pause its Battlefield Labs testing during the open beta period, resuming after feedback has been collected.
Battlefield 6 open beta: What's new
Weapon systems: Closed and open loadout
Starting with the open beta, players can choose between two loadout modes:
Closed weapon conquest mode
Open weapon mode
Map adjustments and revive implementation
Based on player data from Labs, map layouts have been refined—this includes adjusted objective size, enhanced cover areas, refined boundaries, and turret repositioning. Domination mode now includes a revive mechanic, adding squad-focused gameplay depth.
Weapon performance tweaks and UI clarity
Damage balancing has been updated across multiple weapons to adjust time-to-kill and kill response. The weapon selection interface has also been redesigned to highlight the strengths and intended roles of different weapons.
Assault
The Assault class is shifting toward team support. The Adrenaline Injector no longer heals but now boosts resistance to flash, stun, explosive, and fire damage, along with faster movement. Its Signature Trait has been replaced by Commanding Presence, which speeds up objective capture and helps nearby squadmates exit combat status sooner.
The Deploy Beacon (formerly Spawn Beacon) has moved from Recon to Assault. It now has limited uses and self-destructs when reused by the same player, making it a tactical tool rather than a solo advantage.
A new gadget, the Assault Ladder, lets squads access higher or unreachable spots. It works as a ladder or ramp depending on how it's placed.
Recon
Recon's stealth role is being sharpened with a new Spec Ops training path, replacing Pathfinder. Perks now include quieter movement, gadget detection, and faster disengagement when prone. At Level 3, Recon players can call in UAVs for passive enemy spotting. The Aim Spotting trait also auto-tags enemies while aiming down sights.

Valve Steam to end support for macOS version 11 on October 15: Here's why

American video game developer Valve Corporation has announced that it will soon end Steam support for macOS version 11 ("Big Sur"). As per Valve's announcement, Steam will officially stop supporting macOS version 11 on October 15. To keep using Steam and access any games or other content purchased through it, users must upgrade to a newer version of macOS. As per Valve, this update is necessary because Steam depends on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer works with outdated macOS versions. Moreover, upcoming Steam releases will rely on system features and security enhancements available only in macOS 12 or newer. The video game developer further wrote: 'We strongly encourage all macOS 11 users to update sooner rather than later. Apple ended security updates and technical support for macOS 11 in 2023. Computers running these operating systems, when connected to the internet, are susceptible to new malware and other exploits which will not be patched. That malware can cause your computer, Steam and games to perform poorly or crash. That malware can also be used to steal the credentials for your Steam account or other services.' Valve's announcement coincides with its plans to transition Steam for Mac into a native Apple Silicon application, as Rosetta 2 support winds down. The company introduced the first native beta shortly after WWDC25. According to 9To5Mac, in the new beta version, Steam has been fully optimised to be a universal app, offering significantly quicker launch speeds, more responsive navigation and scrolling, and improved performance when accessing the Store and Community sections.

Elon Musk awarded US$29 billion pay package from Tesla

World New York, Aug 5 (UNI) In a significant development, the board of American automaker Tesla has agreed to give its CEO Elon Musk another huge pay package worth about US$29 billion. The company's latest pay package comes several months after a Delaware court rejected for a second time Musk's 2018 performance award following a shareholder lawsuit. Musk is currently appealing the order, reports CNN. In a letter to shareholders on Monday, Tesla said that Musk has 'not received meaningful compensation for eight years' and that its 'legal efforts continue' to reinstate the 2018 pay package, adding that there's 'no clear timeline for resolution'. The package would give Musk 96 million shares of Tesla, each of which trades at just over $300. Musk would have to pay $23.34 for each of those shares, equal to the amount he was expected to pay when he was first awarded his 2018 compensation package. Musk is not paid a cash salary or bonus for working at Tesla. Rather, Musk, one of the world's richest people, makes his money through lucrative packages of stock options that allow him to purchase millions of Tesla shares for a fraction of their market price. Musk is Tesla's largest individual shareholder — he owns about 13 percent of the company. UNI XC SS

US Explores Location Trackers for AI Chips, Official Says

(Bloomberg) -- The US is exploring ways to equip chips with better location-tracking capabilities, a senior official said, underscoring Washington's effort to curtail the flow of semiconductors made by the likes of Nvidia Corp. to China. Washington has espoused working with the industry to monitor the movements of the sensitive components, part of a broader plan to curtail smuggling and ensure American technology remains dominant. Last week, Beijing summoned Nvidia representatives to discuss US efforts around location-tracking and other alleged security risks related to its H20 chips. 'There is discussion about potentially the types of software or physical changes you could make to the chips themselves to do better location-tracking,' said Michael Kratsios, one of the architects of a US AI action plan unveiled by Donald Trump last month. 'That is something we explicitly included in the plan,' the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy director told Bloomberg Television on Tuesday. Kratsios, who was in South Korea to attend an APEC Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting, urged the region to adopt US technology, another key pillar in the AI action plan. The government is readying federal financing tools to support AI tech exports to approved allies. 'The next trailblazing breakthroughs will be made with and on American technology, and to fully harness them, you will want America's AI infrastructure already in place,' he told forum delegates on Tuesday. Trump's blueprint has provoked a backlash in Beijing, which for years railed against alleged US surveillance and Washington's efforts to curtail its tech sector. The Chinese government is particularly sensitive to semiconductor sanctions designed to counter Huawei Technologies Co. or rising AI developers such as DeepSeek. Trump officials recently pledged to lift export restrictions on the H20 to China as part of a trade deal they say will secure sales of rare-earth magnets to the US. But Washington is also focused on curtailing the smuggling of chips. Kratsios said during the interview with Bloomberg Television he's not had conversations 'personally' with either Nvidia or Advanced Micro Devices Inc. about exploring location-tracking technology. Last week, Nvidia said it does not have 'backdoors' in its chips. Kratsios also took aim at China's own AI action plan, which involves forming a global organization to devise governance and technology standards. 'We believe each country should set their own destiny on how they think about regulating artificial intelligence,' he told Bloomberg Television. 'The US model, which puts innovation first, will be the most attractive.' --With assistance from Lauren Faith Lau and Debby Wu. (Updates with comments at the forum from the fifth paragraph.)
